Wierdness using Samba PDC with WinXP-Pro and Win2K-Pro clients
Hi All-
Please tell me if I'm posting to the wrong list. I looked for the list called
samba-ntdom (listed at http://us1.samba.org/samba/archives.html) because it
seemed a more appropriate forum, but it looks like that list has been
dissolved. Has the discussion for that list moved to some other list?
Anyway, here's the problem that I'm hoping someone can help me with:

Re: 2.2.3a as a PDC for Win2k Pro and/or WinXP Pro
Hi Mathias,
I can't speak on Win2k Pro but have recently tested WinXP Pro. Now with
XP you will need to use the reg file included with the samba archive (in
a sub directory in the docs dir). Once that has been applied (presuming
all accounts have already been created on server) you can join the
domain and log in no problems.

WinXP Pro 'Loses' Samba Server
I have Samba running on my web server (it's not a major file server or
anything) so that I can access files on it from my local network. Mainly
things like I can view my webalizer pages thru a local machine, or to
copy files over for installation.
Anyway - every 2-3 hours, I 'lose' the connection and have to reboot the
WinXP machine (yeh, I know - 'Rule #1 of Microsoft - When in

Samba PDC for Win2k and WinXP Pro
I have samba 2.2.7 running on a RedHat Linux 7.3 system that is being used as a PDC and a file server for a group of Windows 2k and Windows XP Pro computers. I am having a problem with the roaming profiles working on both the 2k and XP machines. The profiles seem to load fine when you log on, but when you log off it will only copy the ntuser.dat file and then a few more files (seems to go to

I had to join a new machine to Domain, WinXP Pro SP2 can't find de Domin
Controler, but all the WinXP Pro SP2 that where already in the Domain before

Help a newbie (please!): Samba and WinXP in a non-PDC environment
Hi all... looking for some assistance with my first Samba setup.
The setup: On a small (five-computer, mixed Win2k and WinXP pro) LAN, I'd
like a share on my FreeBSD server to be available for storage. No printing,
no PDC, no individual user directories or password protection -- just a big
ol' slice of storage for everyone to access equally.
I've come close, (the share shows up

WinXP pro client and Samba 2.2.3 PDC?
Hi everyone,
sorry if this is already written somewhere:
Is it at all possible to connect a Windows XP (professional ed.)
client to a Samba server running 2.2.3?
I got this far:
After logging into the client locally I can mount the server shares by hand,
but the domain logon fails, saying 'The domain controller is not

samba 2.2.7a, security=server, password server = win2k, winxp client
Hello,
I'm having some problems with the this setting.
I'm trying to have a winxp client logon to a samba-2.2.7a machine which is using
a win2k server as password server. It works if I use a linux client (smbclient):
smbclient -L pandora -U bush%george
Pandora is the samba machine, and it contacts the w2k server and validates bush's
password. This is working, but only with

WinXP Client with Samba 2.2.3a PDC
I am having trouble with everything *except* joining the client to the
domain. WinXP Pro clients join the domain via the Samba-PDC howto, all
works well. Trying to browse other domain resources or attempts to
logon via the "domain" bring up this error in log.smbd:

Help - Adding winXP pro clients to win95 and Samba 2.2.x setup
Hi!
Questions.
1) Do I have to upgrade to Samba 3.x
to support winXP pro clients
(NO PDC)
2) What are the complications of adding
WinXP pro clients to an existing win95/samba 2.2.x
network
3) IF i have to upgrade to Samba 3.x,
is it easy, or do I have to plan to
do a bit or a lot of work.

Problem Using Windows XP Pro w/Samba
I tried today to setup WinXP Pro to logon to my Linux Domain Server running

can not locate the domain server or is unable to authenticate with the

Hi,
I just installed Redhat 7.2 with samba-2.2.1a on a linux machine. I

is connected to the same
hub. There is no problem for me to connect to the samba server from
machines attached to the wireless
router, ( one Mac OS X & one Win98), but I can't connect to the samba
server from the

WinXP. Ugh. + windows 2000 and higher with WINS
I can actually answer this one. Windows 2000 and higher NO LONGER USES
WINS. While 2000 server does still include a WINS server component,
2000 clients no longer (mostly) use them. They now use the active
directory DNS for all resolution instead of WINS. I'm a bit out of my
element, but I've had my WINS get hosed before, and I never knew until
somebody with win98 called and said they
