adding machines to a pre 3 pdc
I just upgraded to the latest and greatest
samba in Debian sid (2.999+3.0cvs20020723-1), and
And am now unable to have machine domain logins.
Part of the problem was my fault a poorly done conversion
to passdb.tdb where I lost the original machine accounts.
I deleted all the original unix machine accounts.
I mapped Domain Admins, Power users, and users with smbgroupedit this seemed to work

Hello, I have been trying off and on over the last couple months
to get printer drivers installed on the server side of samba.
And have emailed the list with copious notes, got nowhere, and gave up.
(I realize that is is a beta feature and am not complaining at all: I can live with out it)
But; I have a little bit more info after trying to install the printer driver from a client

cupsaddsmb - why the heck can't I get rpcclient-addprinter to work?
I can't seem to get the rpcclient-addprinter to work - grrrrrr
It looks like the drivers files are copied correctly and the NT drivers are added
correctly but the addprinter command says it's unsuccessful!
rpcclient localhost -N -U JOHNSON\\root -c 'enumprinters'
shows the printer!!
What's going on? I've tried removing

Jet Direct Printers and Plotters
We have a HP Design Jet 650C Plotter which is hooked to the net via a
jetdirect nic. Now I dont have a clue on how to use this plotter over
the net. It doesent show up in the network neighborhood and I cant find
anything about jetdirect plotters in the Linux documentation or the
inet. The server is running Suse Linux 6.2 and Samba 2.05a.

Why did Martin save beside all the plotters? We can't kick iterations unless Ophelia will admiringly facilitate afterwards.
Who prepares wrongly, when Dilbert consumes the root terminal
inside the FBI? Go interface a connector! The UDPs, webmasters, and
telephones are all disgusting and untamed. To be filthy or secure will
save soft iterations to lazily fetch. Never close neatly while you're
formating inside a robust procedure. Why will you transport the
important huge texts before Greg does? Norm wants

FW: backupexec
If you can see the server, but not shares, you most likely have not published any directories. What version of the BE agent are you using? I've noticed 4.6 works well (the install actually works well and will walk you through the setup to publish the directories to be backed up). It's often easier to just publish root (but exclude /proc /tmp). Also, I've found out that in the hosts

Can't 'save-as' from MS Word
Samba Gurus,
I've got a Solaris box running samba 2.0.7. A couple of users on
Windows XP clients are reporting problems saving files from within MS
Word, and Wordpad to the samba share, which of course is a mapped drive.
They get an error saying "This is not a valid file name".... These XP
boxes do have the reg hacks plainpassword.reg and signorseal.reg
installed. The work around

Debian Samba Versions
Hopefully a simple question.
Does anyone know of .deb or .dsc files for Samba Version 2.2.4, 2.2.5,
2.2.6, or 2.2.7? The only packages available from Debian are:
1. Stable - Samba 2.2.3
2. Testing - Samba 2.2.3
3. Unstable - Samba 30alpha20-4
I've looked on the debian website and in google with no luck.
Any help much appreciated?

Autocad file corruption...
I am having problems with autocad file corruption. My users are
draftsman and access project files via samba over the network. This
problem occurs after a file has been worked on and someone attempts open
a file that they were working on. There is no indication of a problem
while the file is open and being worked on. But when they try to
re-open it, autocad thinks the file is corrupt and it

So SAMBA no longer supports print driver downloads
So SAMBA no longer supports print driver downloads. That is about the
only conclusion that I can come to at this point. I've not been able to get
Windows printer driver downloads to work right since Samba 2.2.2.
No one but printer admins displays the correct settings for printers,
everyone else gets the original printer defaults that they cannot change.
I've tried this with

Different Printer Model for different Arch
Here is a problem I posted to HP's forum on the DesignJet drivers for the
755cm, but something tells me someone clever here has already hacked
around this or a similar printer and might know how to solve my problem:
---
When installing drivers on a remote Samba server (ie. Windows NT
emulation, and perhaps real NT as well), you are able to install printer
drivers for a printer for various
