Is it possible to use wine with a journaling filesystem?
Hi there,
I installed my mandrake linux 8.1 with reiserfs. I would like to use wine
without my windows partition. Now I see the following text in the wine
man-page:
---
format: Filesystem=<fstype>
default: "win95"
Used to specify the type of the file system Wine should emulate on a given directory structure/underlying file system.
Supported types are "msdos" (or

journal aborting and remounting /boot as ro
Hi,
Apologies in advance for any breaches of netiquette, I couldn't find any guidelines
about submission to this forum but I'd be grateful for your help on something.
My /boot filesystem is being remounted shortly after start-up as read-only.
I get the following messages...
journal_bmap_Ra7a5f568: journal block not found at offset 12 on ide0(3,1)
Aborting journal on device ide0(3,1)

Unable to print
Hi,
I am using Microsoft Word Viewer to view documents via wine. CUPS
is installed and working perfectly.
But when I try to print via Word Viewer, it says no printer found
:(.
I checked the config file in wine, and its shows that CUPS is
present.
Kindly let me know how to get it working :)

/.journal ext3 on a flash
Hi,
I'm formatting a flash with ext3, but I need to move the journaling file
(/.journal) in the flash to prevent it's corruption.
In previous message I read that it's possible
(https://www.redhat.com/archives/ext3-users/2004-March/msg00009.html), but I
can't find any /.journal in my ext3 fs.
How can move the journaling file in the flash without /.journal file??
Thanks

processing writes requests in data=journal, sync mode
Hi,
We are currently doing SpecSFS comparison benchmarking to evaluate
advantages of FS journaling to NVRAM card versus journaling to hard disks.
We compare NFS performance for Linux file server with ext3 file system in
?data=journal? mode for three different locations of the file system
journal:
- inside main file system
- on a dedicated HD
- on an NVRAM PCI card
The file system is

RH7.2 journal creation
Stephen et al,
You may remember me raising the point that the new e2fsprogs (1.25 as I
remember) griped about old journals not having all the appropriate
fields zeroed.
I've just discovered that the RH 7.2 installer produces journals (ie on
partitions created as ext3 from within the installer) that flag these
warnings with a modified 1.25 e2fsck (the mods being to clear the errors

EXT3 Journal Creation Problem
Hi Guys,
When I try to create an ext3 journal on a new fs, I receive the
following error. This is all under Kernel v2.4.17 and e2fs tools v1.25:
File size limit exceeded
Running e2fsck on it afterwords gives:
e2fsck -y /dev/sdc1
e2fsck 1.25 (20-Sep-2001)
Superblock has a bad ext3 journal (inode 8).
Clear? yes

vfat is not working with ext3 patch
Hi all,
My system is :
kernel 2.4.8 with ext3-0.9.6 patch
e2fsprogs-1.22-2, mount-2.11g, util-linux-2.11f
And ext3 filesystem works fine, but when a vfat partition is mounted:
[fargo] [~] # mount /dev/hdd1 /mnt/tmp
[fargo] [~] # mount
/dev/hda1 on / type ext2 (rw)
none on /proc type proc (rw)
none on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,gid=5,mode=620)
/dev/hdd1 on /mnt/tmp type vfat (rw)
everything looks

journal tuning
Hello,
Is there some document about ext3 performance tuning and choosing
the right type and size of journal? Except RedHat's white paper.
From what I read I understood that for typical operations
data=ordered is prefered. For the cases when there are many writes
not appending to files data=journal is the choice. And if I want to
get the most performance or in case where program is doing

Vorbis Encoder Spec and Detailed Doc
Hi All,
Can any one link me or send me a complete detailed spec of Vorbis encoder? I found the Vorbis_I_spec.pdf but it does not provide much information about encoding procedure.

Question About Relocating Journal on Other Device
Hi. I'm using e2fsprogs 1.23 on a Roswell system with a patched 2.4.7
kernel (using patch ext3-2.4-0.9.5-247) and am trying to create an ext3
filesystem whose journal is located on another device. The incantation I'm
trying is:
mke2fs -j -J device=/dev/hdc2 /dev/hdc3
I keep getting an error along the lines of "mke2fs: Journal superblock not
found". I've tried creating

ext3 .journal location?
Forgive my novice question, but I am a new student of Linux working on presenting the ext3 journaling filesystem to my class. I seek any advice on how to visibly demonstrate (including a purposeful crash of a Linux box) the benefits of ext3 over ext2. I am not worthy to lick the bootstraps of this group, but I beg for any help! The problem I am having extends to even locating the .journal file

max journal size
Hi all,
Man page of tune2fs says that max journal size is 102,400 filesystem blocks, which translates to ~100MB with 1kb blocks or ~400MB with 4kb block. I wonder - why this limitation exists?
Now that relatively cheap ssd devices exist (gigabyte iRam) that offer up to 4GB of space, it would be extremely useful to use whole capacity of such device for full data journaling.

External journal on flash drive
Hi,
I'd like to use a flash drive as a journal device, with the purpose of
keeping the main disk drive spun down as long as possible. I have a
couple of questions:
1) Does the journaling code spread write accesses to the journal device
evenly, as I hope, or are there blocks that are particularly "hot"?
I.e., do I have to worry about the flash device dying quickly because of

I'm having issue with creating LVM Volume via libvirt.
We are running libvirtd 1.2 with KVM.
We are creating Volume Group (VG01) outside of libvirt and defining a storage pool for it.
Here is the StoragePool XML for the Volume Group created outside libvirt.

Printing in Wine
Hello,
I am using Wine to run Tally, an accounting package. Over the
network, we are able to print documents using OpenOffice as we
have CUPS installed. I read the DOCS related to printing in Wine
and they say, I dont need to configure wine if I have CUPS
installed. But whenever I issue the print command in tally,
nothing happens. I checked out /var/log/messages but didn't find
