best, safest and easiest way to provide remote access to files on linux machine
dear list. this question is rather related to samba, although not exclusively. I consider it related enough to ask here, please apologise if you don't. we are in the process of setting up a samba domain at my company. a goal is to replace our current nt4 servers. another goal is to provide an easy way to access the documents on the lan (and peoples home directories) from 'outside'

CDR MYSQL missing field data
Hello, I have Asterisk-1.8.3.2, dahdi-linux-complete-2.4.1+2.4.1, and libpri-1.4.11.5 installed and running on a Ubuntu 10.04 server all built from source. Everything is working nicely except one small issue. The CDR records are stored in the CSV file correctly and complete. The MySQL storage is working as it should and is automatically updating all the fields except the CLID field. I have

Plotting a grid of directly specified colours
Dear R-help, Could any of you direct me to a function for plotting a grid of colours, directly specified by a matrix of hex colour codes? In other words I'm looking for a heatmap() or image()-like function to which I can specify the colour of each grid location directly, rather than providing a numerical matrix and a 1D-colour scale (heatmap, image, levelplots,NeatMap...). I'm surprised

Control of axis limits in multiple panel lattice plots
Unwanted space (padding?) is introduced at the extremes of the x and y axes of my lattice plots. I've tried defining the scales using xlim, scale and num.limits in x.scale.components, but haven't succeded in getting overriding the introduction of extra space. Here's the problem:

connection problem
I have two identical AIX v4.2 machines. One of them was vendor installed, and I installed the OS on the other one. I am successfully running Samba-1.9.18p4 on the vendor installed OS, but I cannot seem to get any Win95 clients to browse on my other machine (Explorer hangs on the Win95 client). I have performed all of the tests in DIAGNOSIS.txt. All of the tests work except for number 7. I can

Samba 2.2.3a, print queue status "opening," high server load
I have Samba 2.2.3a installed and running successfully on Solaris 8 in a test environment. I manually enter printer shares into the smb.conf file, and then I can upload printer drivers to the Samba server from a Windows session without problems. When I try to print to a print queue on this server from a Windows 2000 SP2 machine, the application I am printing from hangs, the CPU usage of the smbd

Can't delete certain messages
Running Dovecot version 1.0.10 on Ubuntu Server 8.04 amd64 (ext3). Some users have emails that will not go away. They delete them and the message is moved to the trash folder only to reappear when the mailbox is refreshed. Moving the message manually to another folder has the same effect. We are running Thunderbird as our email client, though I have tried using other clients to remove the

Can't access SAMBA workgroup from Windows machines
I am relatively new to Linux and Samba, so pardon what may be a stupid question. I am having a problem accessing my SAMBA server's workgroup from my window's clients. The workgroup (WORKGROUP) shows up in the Windows network neighborhood, but when I click it I get a message that says "Workgroup is not accessible. Network name cannot be found." However, when I click Start, Run

How do I upgrade from 2.2.5 to 2.2.8
Samba List Serve Users: Is there a document or web link that follow that describes the steps to upgrade Samba from 2.2.5 to 2.2.8? The documentation on samba.org the I have read assumes that the install is a fresh install and not an upgrade. Thanks so much, Mark Roth Systems Engineer Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Samba goes catatonic...?
Guten Tag! I have Samba 225 on a network of 75-100 daily users. System has (4) SCSI drives: (2) 18GB (RAID-1) and (2) 36GB (RAID-1) on two different SCSI channels. The system is running Red Hat 7.3 with updated and recompiled Samba 2.25 package. After one day of operation, the SMBD process is listed in "ps -A" ten to fifteen times, and some client PCs cannot connect. There

locking for multiple samba servers sharing same NFS filesystems
Is there any support for file locking in a case where multiple Samba servers are set up with shares for the same NFS mounted filesystem? I don't know how the STATUS..LCK file is used, but for instance, could that file be shared between the multiple Samba servers via and NFS mount? Thanks! -- --------------------------------------------------------------------- Jay D. Anderson

providing webdav remote access to samba
hello all. I know this is a little bit of topic, but I guess this will interest of you anyway, and I didn't know where else to ask... So here it is: Does anyone here provide a webdav remote access interface to the network? And if yes: what software are you using for it? I'm currently doing this on my network using davenport. Change password via CGI script.
I am running Samba 2.2.5 with ldap enabled. To add a user is really simple and the smbpasswd command works nice to change a password as well. I was wondering is there an easy way to allow a user to change their password via a CGI script? I am trying to get passwords synched on all devices using LDAP and I am pretty comftorable with LDAP module in perl. Is there a way to update their password by
