XP woes
Working with Windows XP and debian Samba 2.2.3a on a box as my PDC. Sign or seal patch was applied. The past few days when we have been adding new computers running windows XP to the domain we have had machines tell us they have joined the domain, but when we try to log onto them using a "domain" account we get the following error on the PC: "The system could not log you on to

Printing to Samba printer causes application to abort
I am using Slackware 10.2 (kernel 2.4.29) and Samba 3.0.21c for my print server. The client workstations are WinNT4. I have two printers on the linux server..an HP DeskJet 600 and an Okidata B4250. I can install and print to the HP from any of the workstations. I can install the Okidata just fine, but when I try to print from Word, Excell, or any application Dr. Watson comes to visit. I get

What shares are mounted on client ?
Is there anyway to ascertain what shares a client actually has mounted at a given time? I've got a number of WFW boxes connecting shared drives on my SCO-OSE3 box using SAMBA 1.9.16p5 (upgrading to latest version RSN). I've got some shell scripts on the Unix box which use escape sequences sent to the client telnet to start programs on the client side. Some of these programs assume

Problem connecting from PC
Our network is primarily Windows NT including a FreeBSD 2.2.5 server running a FreeBSD port of Samba 2.0.3. When I try to connect to the FreeBSD machine from my Windows NT workstation I get the following errors: using "net view \\NS1" Access denied. using "net use * \\NS1\tmp /user:hjohnson" and then entering my password The account is not authorized to login from this

Authentication on Linux6.0 that running samba-2.0.3
Hello All, I am using Linux6.0(running samba) as a file server on my network, everything is good when I configure samba authenticate on other machine such as WinNT4.0. But when I have configured samba authenticate on itself (security = user) I received message error "smbd/password.c:pass_check_smb(506) Account for user 'david' was disabled". In this mode I created

cant rename directories on NT
Everything is working perfect on win95 but from NT4: I can create, delete and rename files I can create and delete directories Problem: I can't rename created directories from the NT4 workstations on the network. And this is a big problem since NT4 creates a "New Folder" and asks you to type in the name you want. I have a 2.0.6 distribution on a SGI Origin200 Irix6.4 server. I

Raw print queues in CentOS 4.4
Hi All, I have a raw print queue configured in CentOS 4.4 for a printer connected to a Windows PC. The printer doesn't have a Linux driver of any sort, so this was the only way to print to it. The printer is an Okidata dot matrix printer. Users can print to it from a console application, but if they try printing to it from OOo Writer, the printer spits out reams of pages with what looks

Vanishing Permissions on Shares
I am trying to move our network from windows NT-2k to Samba /Linux. So far everything is great but there is one main obstacle; when I apply permissions to a Samba share via my W2K workstation, the permissions instantly disappear. This happens regardless of the owner / creator of file or the user / group permission I attempt to add. I have run 2.2.7, 2.2.8, and now 3.0 beta3. All three behave

USB->Parallel cable compatibility
I have an installation where we're replacing a rather old Linux box with a new one that has no parallel ports. The old box has two parallel ports going to Okidata printers. The IOGEAR GUC1284B USB to Parallel Adapter cable looks like it might be a simple solution to this, but I would like to know that it works before getting a couple. Comments? Name Resolution, Pinging
I am running redhat 7.3 with Samba 2.2.4. I was wondering if there was a way to use Samba to resolve my IPs instead of having to add all the entries to my /etc/hosts file? For instance, I would like to be able to do `ping acormany` instead of `ping <IP Address>`. We are currently using WINS on a Windows box to resolve the IPs. As of right now, I can `ping acormany` on a Windows system, but

2 gigabyte issue
I am running RedHat8, samba 2.2.7 The mailing list archives seem to pin the 2gb problem on several unrelated issues (all of which i explored). The machines in question have no problems creating 2+gb files locally and via NFS. Is this an issue with smbfs? smbmount? anyone have a workaround? -- 'As we enjoy great Advantages from the Inventions of others we should be glad of an Opportunity

Hi I would like some tips on how to connect a Linux Box running samba to a Shared printer (Lexmark OprtaR+) on a Win NT machine. I dont know much about /etc/printcap configurations and the like. I have tried to print with the command: smbclient \\\\WindozeNT\\printer -N -P smb: \> put <filename> Its prints but not in any kind of proper format(ie Lanscape and diagonal printing, text

domain master browser registration
if i have a host with a particular ip address running as a domain master browser and registered as such with my wins server, and then i change the ip address of this host, does the old registration with the wins server eventually go away so that the new ip address can be registered? if so, how long should this take? how would one force the old ip address to be forgotten? -- Todd Pfaff

Still having trouble with copying large files
I had originally written about this problem last month (http://lists.samba.org/pipermail/samba/2002-November/085418.html) Since then, our company has added another Windows Fileserver which I'm trying to back up, and they are both having the problem. Because it happens on both servers, this leads me to believe it really is a problem with my Samba server. I've upgraded to 2.2.7a, as the

Samba Team? - "ld.so.1: ls: fatal: relocation error: file /usr/lib/nss_winbind.so.1: symbol socket: referenced symbol not fou n d"
You can test if winbind is able to resolve user IDs internally with "wbinfo -u". This uses the samba tool "wbinfo" to connect directly to the running winbind daemon and list all the Windows domain users. If that fails, then you have problems with the winbind daemon itself. The authentication between winbind and the PDC can be tested with "wbinfo -t", which is usually

Authentication problems Still
Hi All, I've tried everything I can think of, and spent many many hours trying to get this Sun Solaris 8 machine to authenticate with a Linux 7.1 machine acting as the PDC. In summary: Both machines are running 2.2.3a compiled from source without additional arguments (just ran configure on each platform) No problems with Win95, Win98, WinNT authenticating with the Linux PDC. The Sun machine

Samba Team? - "ld.so.1: ls: fatal: relocation error: file /usr/lib/nss_winbind.so.1: symbol socket: referenced symbol not foun d"
I've recompiled samba 2.2.3a and still any time I do a ls -l in a directory where there are files from a PC I get the error : ld.so.1: ls: fatal: relocation error: file /usr/lib/nss_winbind.so.1: symbol socket: referenced symbol not found If I shut off winbind or take winbind out for my /etc/nsswitch.conf file, I can get a directory listing and it lists the users ID that winbind assigned to
