Small Bug with username map (2.2.5)
Hi, there appears to be a problem with a minor part of username map file interpretation. When I put an exclamation mark before a line in the file, that is supposed to stop any further mapping if a match has already been made. That's what I understand to be the case. This is not happening for me. When I connect from a Win2k machine as Administrator, the log file records the mapping from

2.2.5, Sol 2.8, W2k - Printers...Status: Access Denied unable to connect - ??
hi When I highlight a printer icon in Win 2K, the Status bar shows Status: Access Denied, Unable to connect. It shows this for all samba printers. I can print a test page even though it shows access denied. Anyone know how to fix this? thanks. Infrasoft MX very slow loading from Samba share
We are experiencing long delays when loading MX files stored on our samba fileserver. We are running version 2.2.7a of Samba on Solaris 8 servers. Using MX version 2.5 and higher on windows 2000 and XP workstations When the files are stored locally they load in a few seconds, whilst taking more than a minute to run from the Samba server. Our current workaround is to store the files locally,

AutoCAD file names UPPER CASE on samba
Hi folks, we are experiencing a problem when AutoCAD 2000+ drawing files are saved on a Samba (2.0.8) file share. Regardless of what the file is 'saved as', the name is always converted to all capitals. e.g. Drawing1 becomes DRAWING1 Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem. Seems strange that it is only AutoCAD files, but I think it is Samba related, not AutoCAD,

Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT,2000, XP are ok (re posted)
Did you change your "security" setting in your new Samba e.g. from "share" to "domain"? -----Original Message----- From: peter.a.bryant@mainroads.qld.gov.au [mailto:peter.a.bryant@mainroads.qld.gov.au] Sent: Friday, 14 March, 2003 7:00 AM To: samba@lists.samba.org Cc: John H Terpstra Subject: Re: [Samba] Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT,2000, XP are ok (reposted)

Windows changes file ownership & ACL's - any solution?
We have a problem with file security settings changing when a file is edited by someone who is not the owner. When the edited file is saved, ownership is transferred to the person who edited the file. Also, access control settings for the file are reset to a default setting. This is a real problem, since in some cases it means that the original owner of the file no longer has permission to edit

RE: Samba newbie question... (SWAT)
Thanks for the performance information John, I wasn't aware that optimising the conf could make such a difference. I guess my way of thinking - where I want to look at the original smb.conf file and have it nicely readable is a bit impractical, and maybe I will soon change that way of thinking, but I think it will help your work if you are aware of other peoples thought processes, (even if

Possible Bug?? (was: Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT,2000, XP are ok)
Please lend me some expertise... Ok, I know suggesting a bug is a bit impolite, but I cannot find a solution for this and none of the helpful people who have responded have been able to help either... If I come off sounding a bit short it's just because I've tried many things to get these older clients printing. :-) Don't mean to annoy anyone. Appreciate any help! Have several

Automatically setting up printer drivers in NT4
Is it possible to get samba(2.0.6 running on Solaris 7) to automatically install printer drivers for NT clients? Most of the documentation I've read only mentions windows 9x, but the O'Reillys book makes it sound like it might also be possible for NT. I have tried following the procedure in the book, but it only seems to partially set up the printer, allowing me to view spooling

approx. what size should samba compile to?
Hi, I just downloaded samba 3.0 and configured, make, make installed it It turned out to take up about 2 Gb of disk space. Is this a normal size for the installation? Just checking. Is Samba 2.2.4 stable & error free
Hi, I am planning on upgrading our Samba servers to a more current version (presently we have 2.0.6) Just wondering if 2.2.4 is the best version to implement, or if an earlier version would be more stable, e.g. 2.2.3a I ask this question because I've seen a few messages on the mailing lists suggesting errors in 2.2.4, but don't know if these are real errors or just people with a bad

suggestion: small amendment to Printing How-to
Hi, I have a very small suggested amendment to Chapter 6 of the "Samba How-To Collection" document. This is the chapter about printing. The change I would like to see may seem trivial, but as a relative Samba Newbie, I took a while to figure out this section of the documentation... "Once you have created the required [print$] service and associated subdirectories, simply log

Samba-3 HOWTO and ref. guide - need clarification please - printing chapter
Could someone who is familiar with the book "Samba-3 HOWTO and reference guide and who is also familiar with printer setup please give me some advice... I am summarising the procedure for setting up a printer for automatic driver download which is described in chapter 17. There are a couple of processes mentioned that look very similar and I am wondering if both steps are required for

(2.2.5) Does AUTO PRINTER DRIVERS work - definitive statement please
Hi, could someone who is close to the Samba development make a comment about the automatic printer drivers features in Samba 2.2.5 I've been trying to get this working unsuccessfully, and have seen many messages posted from people having trouble with this feature. Not sure if this is an unnusual number of people with problems, but it seems like it ( I could be too close to the problem to see

Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT,2000, XP are ok (reposted)
Sorry to have to repost this (didn't get any response on the first post), we really need some of the fixes of the new Samba but cannot go ahead without the support for the older machines. Need to prove that Samba is the great product that I believe it is. Hi folks - I am having printing problems with our older machines. Printing is working fine for our Windows NT, 2000 and XP clients.

smbpasswd and RID/SID problems with LDAP
Problem number one: ------------------- I'm running a few-hours-old CVS version of Samba 3.0 with LDAP as the authentication backend, and I'm having some problems trying to set up the LDAP accounts using "smbpasswd". I build the structure of the LDAP database by importing a couple of LDIF's, and then I import the following user account to create an administrative account

net groupmap modify ntgroup="Domain Admins" ... succeeds but fails
After reading through the documentation, I realized that as a part of the migration process from Samba-2.2.X to Samba-3.0.0 I needed to convert everyone in my smbadmin group (previously domain admin group = @smbadmin) to the "Domain Admins" group w/rid=512. So, I issued the following command: [root@localhost profile]# net groupmap modify ntgroup="Domain Admins"

directory vs. file delete permissions
I have an [apps] share that was intended to be read-only (to keep viruses away) however some Windows programs require rw access to specific files. I don't want to open-up everything on the share to rw, only those specific files/directories that need 'w' access. Here's the dilemma: In order for users to be able to change a file, the file and directory it's in need to have rw

valid users fails with net groupmap rid=512
Hi, The group that is mapped to rid=512 cannot be used in "valid users", the users cannot map the share (error 5). Is this normal? Should I file a bug?
