Re: smbd blocking in receive_smb (how to trigger procedure - LONG)
Hi,
We've been experiencing this same problem, however, with Samba
3.0.7-1.3E.1 running on RedHat ES 3.0. We've also experienced this on
2.2.7x on RedHat 9. The problem has been intermittently happening over the
last several weeks, (I've posted list about it).
This message, along with the others in the thread, describes the symptoms
that we're seeing, however, I haven't

Samba/RH6.0 file locking problems?
I hope that someone can help me with this because I'm at a loss.
I have a Samba server running RH 5.2 w/all errata plus Samba 2.03 that is
used, among other things, to serve a share for a Windows program called
"Business Works" which is a network accounting package. This program uses
the standard Windows range-locking to implement it's network capability.
I have been using this

File locking in NFS on Solaris
Hello,
System: Solaris 8/9
Samba: 3.02 and 3.06
We have problems with accessing files (from Windows XP) on a samba server
that are mounted over nfs (on the server). Some users have symlinks in
their home directories to nfs resources. When they try to copy file
located in nfs the client simply hangs. To make the thing even stranger:
Sometimes it also works (after restarting the samba server

XP difficulties on 2.09
Guys,
I think the answer to my question is to upgrade samba. However, since
this is my production machine, I thought I would try and understand the
problems I'm having a little better to insure that an upgrade will correct
my issues. My setup - Mandrake 7.2, samba 2.09. Win98, ME and XP clients.
The 98 and ME machines have no problems. The XP machine has some

2.2.8 slows down to a crawl within a few days
We have been using samba for years now and are generally very happy.
But since a recent upgrade to 2.2.8 we have seen samba slowing down
periodically to a crawl every 2 or 3 days. BTW the start of these problems
coincided with the upgrade to samba 2.2.8 and a partial cabling upgrade to
100 MBit, which also coincided with the introduction of the first Win XP
Pro
machines to our LAN. ;-(

SAMBA 2.0.5a oplock_break: client failure in break
We are running Samba 2.0.5a on an AIX 4.2.1 box, and since
we upgraded from 1.9.18, a Windows 95 client reports
intermittent problems (timeouts) when saving small files.
The log.smb file has entries from those events:

CIFS + NFS'ing a single filesystem w/ locking
Hi,
I have a Solaris 10 server exporting UFS directories using built-in NFS.
I've built Samba 3.0.20b from OpenPKG (www.openpkg.org). I have a
Solaris 10 (x86) client mounting the NFS share and opening OpenDocument
files using StarOffice 8 (SO8, aka OO2.0). I also have a Windows 2003
Terminal Server mounting the Samba share and opening documents with SO8.
This is a temporary development

Locked files stay locked - copy operation from XP to Samba fails - FIXED
Hi,
After trying too long I fixed the problem below by reverting to the old
3c905 NIC. Problem solved but not understood.
I had a similar 3c2000 NIC in another Samba server and it also failed to
copy a large amount (5000+) of files. So that's two completely servers
(hardware and Samba / Slackware version) having the same problem with any
number of different clients. I couldn't imagine

Locked files stay locked - copy operation from XP to Samba fails
Hi,
When trying to copy 5000+ files from a client PC to a Samba server I have
the following problem. Halfway during the operation it hangs on always the
same file. Windows XP (SP1) gives:
Unable to copy file [filename]. Specified network name is no longer
available.
(I had to translate this from Dutch, so it is not the exact message).
When checking with smbstatus I get this:

implicit locking?
Hi!
Is it possible to introduce an implicit server-side file locking
mechanism in samba(3.2.5), so if one opens a shared file for writing,
then a new user won't be able to open it for writing, but only read-only.
Currently the following options are in the config file:
# testparm -v |fgrep -i lock
[...]
kernel oplocks = Yes
lock spin time = 200
oplock break wait

intermittent login failures (Win95/Samba 1.9.18p10)
We are using Windows 95 OSR 2 clients here in our lab in
conjunction with Samba 1.9.18p10 on Linux kernel 2.0.35.
We are getting intermittent login failures that I can't
figure out. The user will type their username and password
in, hit OK, and the system will respond, "The domain
password you supplied is not correct, or access to your
logon server has been denied." If the user

DB Record Locking problem...
I have an intermittent problem with a database program and the locking
mechanism therein. The program is called OPTO and is an older DOS program
that has been upgraded to run on any of the windows platforms. I should
mention that the entire program, each and every file, is located on the
server. I recently installed a new server running SuSE v8.1 and Samba
v2.2.5. I've copied all of the
