Changing passwords under Win2K/WinXP (Samba 2.2.6)
G'day all... Has anyone had any success in achieving the above, without requiring the user to run smbpasswd on the samba server? On the client machine (2000 or XP) when I press ctrl-alt-del and attempt to change the password I get the error "The User name or old password is incorrect..." I need to keep things as simple as possible for my users, they're not highly computer

Samba won't act as PDC
I have been tasked to be one of the main targets, er, I mean, guys to facilitate our changeover from a rather aged Novell server to Samba. My boss set up Samba 2.0.7 (RPM shows "samba-common-2.0.7-4" with an RPM -q). I am trying to convert it to PDC functionality, and am having difficulty. In the log I see this: "smbd/password.c:authorise_login(826) rejected invalid user

[ns]mbd, sync'ing of disks, and hdparm
Hi, I run a little router/firewall that also acts as a print server for the linux and win98 clients on the LAN. I have the harddisk configured so that if there is little activity, it spins down (hdparm -S 12 /dev/hda). I added smbd/nmbd today and with the two services running, the hard disk drive spins down but wakes up about every 12 minutes. Without the services, only a major event causes them

Samba as a NT PDC
Hello, I have had Samba running for a long time now as a domain controller to win98 computers with no issues. I have started to modify to allow for the new XP machines we are having. I added CARTER$ (machine name) to the unix account. I added it with smbpasswd. I go to add itself to the domain (smbpasswd -j CHERRY_HILL) and I get this error: No password server list given in smb.conf - unable

Roaming profiles problem
Hey all, I've got a few WinXP workstations logging into a 2.2.4pre (CVS from April 30th, around 8 p.m. PDT) PDC, and I'm having some sort of odd problem with roaming profiles. The XP workstations can successfully (it seems) retrieve and save thier profiles to the samba box; however, if I log off a user, say "gary", from one workstation, and travel to the next one, and log in

RPM build errors-Possible Bug?
Hello all. I'm trying to create the rpm for Samba 2.2.5. I haven't uninstalled the other version as we are using it. I got the tar.gz from the Samba web site. I type # sh makerpms.sh and this is what I get this @ the end: checking statvfs64 function (SVR4)... no checking statvfs function (SVR4)... no checking for 3-argument statfs function (DEC OSF/1)... no checking for two-argument

My Documents folder and roaming profiles.
Hi All, I don't know whether here is the right place to ask as this question is probably more Windows related than Samba related but I thought someone here might have some ideas. I've got a Samba 2.2.5 PDC (running on FreeBSD but that doesn't really matter) serving Windows XP machines. The roaming profiles are set to be stored in a different share to the users home directory so

Why not pthreads on Windows in 'parallel' package?
Aaaah ... and argh - I should have better not to post R question at midnight, especially when I know it forks the process and it's not using threads. Brain meltdown. (So, we'll proceed trying to use pthreads in matrixStats also for Windows). Sorry for the noise and thanks Kasper. SAMBA on AIX
Hi everyone, I run to some confusion here and hope someone give me a answer before I implement it. I am trying to install samba2.05 on my AIX 4.3.1, but the binary file in the web site is for AIX 4.3.2. Can I still use the binary file for my installation on AIX 4.3.1 ? Thanks ! Windows 2k Home directories junk
Has anyone had the home directories of some Windows 2000 users become inundated with thousands (15k or so) of directories all of a sudden? This is of course a samba share on the samba PDC. It really renders the H:\ pretty useless. It also seems to occur only if you are logged onto a certain machine. Is anyone aware of any causes? Certain software packages that maybe create odd directories in a

(no subject)
A good day to you all. i dont seemt to be having any luck joining Windows XP machines into my domain. This i find quite peculiar, since i have had no problems with win98, winnt, or win2k machines. The Windows XP machine is able to see the domain, and reports that it has joined the domain after i enter the domain admin account and password. But after the reboot, i can't seem to log on
