Subjects on a mailing list.
Hi Warren and all. Nothing personal, just to make helping everyone easier, I'm using you as an example. The subject: "Help please" doesn't mean much on a "Help please" type of mailing list. Put a good subject on your mail, try even looking at the archives for a similar problem and use the same subject. I found this helped to get more response to my questions. You

Routing/NAT question
Hi all, I have a strange setup I am trying to get working. Initally I thought I could set it up by just setting up the correct routes. However after thinking about it I have convinced myself (maybe incorrectly) that I most likely need some sort of advanced NAT/routing setup. Below is a description of the networks involved: Local net (192.168.101.0/24) | | Linux machine eth1

Chow test(1960)/Structural change test
Hi,   A question on something which normally should be easy !   I perform a linear regression using lm function:   > reg1 <- lm (a b+c+d, data = database1)   Then I try to perform the Chow (1960) test (structural change test) on my regression. I know the breakpoint date. I try the following code like it is described in the “Examples” section of the “strucchange” package :   > sctest(reg1,

Power Failures or Spikes
Hi all, My server is connected to a UPS but whenever there is a power failure or spike it seems that once all the clients come back up they cannot connect. I have to restart the server each time. This is no hardship but I was just wondering if anybody had the same problem and if so and they fixed it, how? Thanks Tom Ansley

query: sample size calculation
Dear all, I am doing something wrong. I am trying to apply a formula for sample size calculation as in the book "Design and Analysis of Clinical Trials", from Chow et all. There a suggested sample size strategy uses the formula 0.30/0.45=F(0.80,2n,2n)/F(0.025,2n,2n) which gives n=96, as in the book. (here F(alfa,k,n) is the upper (alfa)th quantile of an F distribution with k,n

Profiles XP and Service Pack 1
Hi List, we have a 130+ PC network running windows XP on the clients, with win2000 and samba servers (SuSE 7.3 distribution rpm for samba 2.2.3 and SuSE 8.0 selfcompiled samba 2.2.5). The windows servers just authenticate the users, and provide some additional services (Terminal Server and some special software packages). Print- and File- services are provided by the samba servers. We

Chow Test
Hello R-users! I tried to find a package to run a CHOW TEST. As a reference package I found the STRUCCHANGE package. Do you know if it works well otherwise can you recommend a different one? XP woes
Working with Windows XP and debian Samba 2.2.3a on a box as my PDC. Sign or seal patch was applied. The past few days when we have been adding new computers running windows XP to the domain we have had machines tell us they have joined the domain, but when we try to log onto them using a "domain" account we get the following error on the PC: "The system could not log you on to

My Documents folder and roaming profiles.
Hi All, I don't know whether here is the right place to ask as this question is probably more Windows related than Samba related but I thought someone here might have some ideas. I've got a Samba 2.2.5 PDC (running on FreeBSD but that doesn't really matter) serving Windows XP machines. The roaming profiles are set to be stored in a different share to the users home directory so

Ordered vs. journal real-worl performance
Maybe I should've started a new thread with this question (it was in the /proc/sys/vm/bdflush thread), so I am now :) According to tests performed for this article: http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/linux/library/l-fs8/ "ext3's data=journal mode is incredibly well-suited to situations where data needs to be read from and written to disk at the same time."
