netbios name problem
Hi All, We are running Samba 2.0.7 on Solaris 5.7 server. It is registered with WINS under 3 different names ("netbios name" and two "netbios aliases"). Two of the names always work fine. We can do "net view" against those names and they always respond with correct list of shares and always allow proper connections to those shares. For some reason the third

Conditional logistic regression for "events/trials" format
Dear R users, I have a large individual-level dataset (~700,000 records) which I am performing a conditional logistic regression on. Key variables include the dichotomous outcome, dichotomous exposure, and the stratum to which each person belongs. Using this individual-level dataset I can successfully use clogit to create the model I want. However reading this large .csv file into R and running

"%S" doesn't parse to share name.
Hi, Our smb.conf specifies share level logging with: log file = /var/log/samba/%S.log This results in a log file named "%S.log". I would expect something like sharename.log. Can anyone explain this? I have not been able to Google any answers. Samba 3.0.10-1.4e.2 as PDC on RedHat ELS4 with Windows XP2 clients %m.log gives "machinename.log" as expected. %m.%S.log gives

Don''t Shout at your JBODs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDacjrSCeq4 I wonder if the inverse is true. If I whisper soothing words of encouragement at my JBODs, will I get more IOPS with reduced latency? :^)

Server Recommendations
We have a number of clients who will be needing a server to host Asterisk on. Many of these clients use analog (FXO) lines that will need to be connected to Asterisk via Sangoma cards. Can anyone recommend an industry-standard server (like IBM, Dell, HP, etc.) that has enough open PCI slots to handle up to six of the Sangoma cards? We would like to be able to tell the customer to just go

creating a vnic to represent the factory MAC address
How do I create a vnic that represents the factory assigned MAC address of my physical nic? The bge device in my system (x2100) appears to support 4 MAC addresses. The driver reserves the first as the ''primary/default'' address and allows manipulation of the other three via the MAC_CAPAB_MULTIADDRESS interface. I''d like to use vnics on this system, as I have Xen guest

WinXP PDC logon problem...
Hi all, I've seen this raised as an issue on other mailing lists, but I've not seen a solution, and I've seen a number of notes to post to this alias instead, so here I am. I've setup Samba as a PDC running on Solaris. I have a WinXP (latest patch levels) PC which I want to join to the domain. I can successfully join the domain using root authentication, but I am unable to logon

raidz2 resilience on 3 disks
Hello, 1) If i create a raidz2 pool on some disks, start to use it, then the disks'' controllers change. What will happen to my zpool? Will it be lost or is there some disk tagging which allows zfs to recognise the disks? 2) if i create a raidz2 on 3 HDs, do i have any resilience? If any one of those drives fails, do i loose everything? I''ve got one such pool and

sh DTrace provider available
As noted on my blog and at http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/dtrace/shells/ I''ve made available a DTrace provider for the Bourne shell. Before anyone starts yelling at me for not starting with another shell, read the blog I made explaining why we started with shell (link on the community page referenced above). For /bin/sh, I''ve put up something akin to a chapter in

IPv4 configuration for Solaris guest domains
I''d like to enhance Solaris network configuration slightly to allow guest domain IPv4 details to be passed from the domain building control tools through to the relevant components in Solaris (svc:/network/physical and uts/common/fs/nfs/nfs_dlinet.c). Attached is a proposal, roughly in the form of a fasttrack. Diffs for a prototype are at:

Hi, This is not a DTrace technical question (so, please don''t flame me for it) :) This is regarding the DTrace (un)conference TShirt. I am curious to know what engine is it. Could not figure it out. DTrace unconference?
All, With Jon Haslam''s exciting news about the DTrace doc wiki (if you haven''t seen it yet, make your way to http://wikis.sun.com/display/DTrace), and with some of the discussion with the Apple folks, I''m wondering if the time isn''t right for something of a DTrace summit, perhaps as an unconference. The idea here would not be a DTrace user group (though that
