If in [global] <guest ok = yes> why do I get an authe ntication sc reen when accessing from NT box?
To force guest access to a share, you need both guest ok = yes guest only = yes Otherwise it will try and authenticate you first before dropping you to guest. If this doesn't work, possibly you don't have a valid guest account set. If no account is set as the guest account (on the linux machine) it will use the user "nobody". > -Larry Engleman > The Burgiss Group >

Print spooler dies?
I am using samba 2.2.5 and cups 1.1.4 as a print server. Everything is working well, except occasionally the spooler service on my user's machines will randomly die. This happens across platforms (2k, NT, XP) and never happened with the same drivers/setup on the WinNT print server that I have just replaced. I've attached a link to my setup file. Let me know if you have any ideas. My

Slow driver properties?
I'm currently using Samba 2.2.5 on a Mandrake 8.0 box with cups 1.1.4. I have several printers shared that are accessed from winNT/2k/xp boxes. When I right click on the printer or select printer properties, or go to print from any of those other boxes, the response is slower than molasses. I have an identical machine running WinNT Workstation that was previously our print server. It is

Has anyone seen this before?
I'm using samba and cups to allow NT/2k machines to print to an HP LaserJet 4000N printer. The printer works fine except for one in house program. In this one program, all the horizontal lines that should be printed are missing. Originally I thought this was a driver problem, but today, for no apparent reason, it started printing the horizontal lines... but only for the first page of each

Samba, Cups, printer driver download problems
I have Samba 2.2.6 complied against Cups 1.1.16 on a Sparc system running Solaris 9. Cups has replaced the stock system V lp spooler on this system (original packages removed.) Cups working from UNIX command line is A-OK. I have been working on setting up Samba to play nice with cups. I have followed the instructions from both the Cups and Samba websites to set up downloading of the

CUPS removal of cupsaddsmb
Hi All, I was recently directed to look at some upstream CUPS changes which impact Samba's printer server functionality: cupsaddsmb has been dropped via https://github.com/apple/cups/commit/f1def5b85f51120f5dc1eb21e1f38860ef41be9c Given that it's only just gone in, I wouldn't expect it to reach distros for some time, but I think it's worth discussing how/whether we should react.

CUPS postscript driver - setting up **ERRATA**
Hi All, Following instructions from here: http://samba.mirror.ac.uk/samba/docs/man/CUPS-printing.html#id2942237 and also in the "Official Samba Howto" book, I tried to install the CUPS PS driver using cupsaddsmb. It failed due to various reasons, and then I finally got it to work. When I unpacked the latest tar.gz file (cups-samba-5.0rc3.tar.gz) it doesn't unpack the files as:

Samba+CUPS+Drivers autodownload
Hi Matt, the problem you referred to is discussed in detail as bug #82 in Samba's bug tracking tool. It consists of 2 bugs. One prevents the registration of drivers and is due to a NULL-pointer passed from that part of code in rpc_server/srv_spoolss_nt.c which calls sys_adminlog function. It begins with the comment /* BEGIN_ADMIN_LOG */ and ends with the comment /* END_ADMIN_LOG */

Samba+CUPS+Driver autodownload
Hi, I'm trying to get Samba to offer the Adobe driver automatically for the two printers I have set up with CUPS. I have all of the necessary files plucked out of the Adobe Postscript Windows driver package, but I'm hitting the problem when I come to run "cupsaddsmb -v ..." that the "rpcclient adddrivers" command always fails with NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL. The drivers

Adding a cups printer driver
Hello, I have desperately tried to make samba able to share the printer with a Win98SE client. First I tried cupsaddsmb, but that failed. Then I walked step by step through the installation manually as explained in the documentation, and everything stopped on this point: rpcclient -Uroot%xxxx -c 'adddriver "Windows NT x86"\

Simple and Stupid Share...
Hullo, All... I have HPUX 10.20 with SaMBa 2.2.3a installed... All I want to do is make a single share with read only access for everybody, no matter the user people are using, in other words, they don't need to have the user on the server side. I tried to setup, with no success. Anybody knows something? Thanks...

W9x print driver download problems with Samba 2.2.3a and CUPS
I've set up Samba and CUPS on our testing server here, and used smbcupsadd to upload the Adobe PS drivers to the server as directed in the HOWTO (The CUPS and Samba HOWTOs differ on this point, by the way - the latter claims that PSMON.DLL is needed in addition to the eight other files. I played it safe and had it upload that, too). With the caveat that I first have to connect to each printer

No joy adding a CUPS printer
I'm trying to change my Samba setup from LPD to CUPS, with little success. I've followed [and re-followed] the setup documentation from CUPS and I just can't get Samba to recognize my printer. The catch is - it sort of recognizes it :-( First I added these lines to my smb.conf: ========================================= [global] load printers = yes printing = cups printcap name =

cupsaddsmb -v, Warning: PPD file not found?!
Hello all, I am running a Debian testing/unstable system with samba 2.2.3a-6 and cupsys 1.1.15-4 as a member server in a samba domain. I have used CUPS to add a networked HP8100N printer and it works fine locally, but I'm having difficulty adding it to samba for Win98 domain clients to use. I ran cupsaddsmb to add the printer and drivers to samba, but it cannot find the PPD file... where is

Please Help. Samba as PDC and printing
Hi ! I hate to do this but I'm close to get crazy about printing with samba. I have a samba server ver 2.2.5 running as a domain controler. The domain logon works fine, I've created the computer account by hand for testing and it is great. The problem is with printing. I've created the [print$] share all the directories in this share like W32ALPHA, W32MIPS, W32PPS, W32X86,

Printing:access denied.
Hello All. I'm using Windows 2000 prof on a NT domain with samba as the PDC. The printer is connected to the samba server via a usb port. I've tried all that seemed obvious to me, and still the same message. Ive made the printer share directory belong to root and group owner every, which has everybody who should print belonging to that group and chmod 770. I've made the printer$
