If in [global] <guest ok = yes> why do I get an authe ntication sc reen when accessing from NT box?
To force guest access to a share, you need both
guest ok = yes
guest only = yes
Otherwise it will try and authenticate you first before
dropping you to guest. If this doesn't work, possibly
you don't have a valid guest account set. If no account
is set as the guest account (on the linux machine) it will
use the user "nobody".

Has anyone seen this before?
I'm using samba and cups to allow NT/2k machines to print to an HP LaserJet
4000N printer. The printer works fine except for one in house program. In
this one program, all the horizontal lines that should be printed are
missing. Originally I thought this was a driver problem, but today, for no
apparent reason, it started printing the horizontal lines... but only for
the first page of each

PCL vs. PCL 6
I am currently using samba to try and replace a windows NT box
as the default print server. All is working well except for
one printer driver. All drivers were installed from a win2k
machine onto the samba print$ share.
The problem that I'm having is with a driver for the HP laser
jet 4000N printer. The PCL driver works and loads quickly.
The PCL 6 driver works, but the properties

I have samba 2.2.5 on RedHat 7.3.
I have installed the following patches on samba:

srv_spoolss_nt.patch

or removing printers from the samba server.
If I disable winbind and the clients login as nobody, the problem

Slow driver properties?
I'm currently using Samba 2.2.5 on a Mandrake 8.0 box with cups 1.1.4.
I have several printers shared that are accessed from winNT/2k/xp boxes.
When I right click on the printer or select printer properties, or go to
print from any of those other boxes, the response is slower than molasses.
I have an identical machine running WinNT Workstation that was previously
our print server. It is

Printing:access denied.
Hello All.
I'm using Windows 2000 prof on a NT domain with samba as the PDC. The printer is connected to the samba server via a usb port.
I've tried all that seemed obvious to me, and still the same message.
Ive made the printer share directory belong to root and group owner every, which has everybody who should print belonging to that group and chmod 770. I've made the printer$

Drivers are stored in the print$ share. Under this share there are
5 folders, each for a different architecture. Under these folders
may be some subfolders (e.g. print$\W32X86 has folder "2" and "3" under it).
The client goes to install a shared printer and will access these
folders and pull out the appropriate file.
Drivers are added likewise by going to the shared printer,

Samba/Cups Newbie question...
Hi,
I think that this is more a Samba query than a Cups one, as far as I can
tell from the
documentation anyway... I am running samba-2.2.5-1 and cups-1.1.16, I
have these
installed and working correctly... I have 50+ PC's (mixture of WinNT,
Win2k, WinXP
and Win9x/ME) printing to 6 queues on the server, 5 of these are RAW
queues printing
via lpd and ipp, and the other is a socket

Simple and Stupid Share...
Hullo, All...
I have HPUX 10.20 with SaMBa 2.2.3a installed... All I want to do is
make a single share with read only access for everybody, no matter the
user people are using, in other words, they don't need to have the user
on the server side.
I tried to setup, with no success. Anybody knows something?
Thanks...

Please Help. Samba as PDC and printing
Hi !
I hate to do this but I'm close to get crazy about printing with samba.
I have a samba server ver 2.2.5 running as a domain controler.
The domain logon works fine, I've created the computer account by hand for
testing and it is great. The problem is with printing.
I've created the [print$] share all the directories in this share like
W32ALPHA, W32MIPS, W32PPS, W32X86,

Win2k explorer.exe dies when dealing with printers
Hi there.
I've been some days dealing with printing problems in Win2k clients, having
a Samba 2.2.5 parched with "parse_sec.patch" as a printer server.
When I try to print anything, explorer.exe dies. Sometimes dies spoolsv.exe,
or sometimes all the system locks (it may be because explorer do not restart).
It happens to all my Win2k clients with Service Pack 2, and only when using

Wine07252005 spooler problem
Hi,
I installed Wine07252005, my printer is EPSON LX 300X, it's CUPS, the name is EPSON9Pin. I tested it with a simple Delphi program and have two problems:
1) If i print using a report builder like RBuilder, it prints quite well, but the font does look good in the print out.
2) If I use spooler to print, like following:
if StartDocPrinter(PrnHandle, 1, @DocInfo) = 0 then

Print spooler full with completed print jobs
Hi,
I have Panasonic KX-P7105 printer connected through LPT1 port to the "D-link
DP-101P+" print server.
This printer is defined as raw and I am using it only for printing from
different windows clients.
Drivers are only on windows client side. On linux side I never print one
page.
Suddenly, in windows print spooler I can see already printed documents from
every user. As

Print jobs hang in Samba, don't go to UNIX spooler
I have encountered a strange printing problem with Samba 2.2.4 running under
HP-UX 11i.
In the process of investigating a printing problem, I have found that Samba
has stopped passing jobs along to the UNIX lp spooler as of yesterday
afternoon.
When NT/W2K clients print to printers on my server, the jobs are accepted,
Samba
spool files are created in the spool directory defined for the printer

samba-2.2.5-printing.patch
Hi @all,
I cannot use this patch in 2.2.5.
I patched the source before with
parse_sec.patch

Makefile.in.patch
srv_spoolss_nt.patch
addform.diff
Containes the samba-2.2.5-printing.patch only parts of the above

FW: Print jobs hang in Samba, don't go to UNIX spooler
I hate to follow up on my own post, but here's an additional
bit of info: I've tried changing the "print command" setting
in smb.conf to log the command and parameters when a job is
printed. However, no output is ever logged; it's acting as if
the print job is being spooled but the print command isn't
being executed. The print command I added is:
print command = echo

using print spooler
Hi,
In the wine config file there is a spooler section where I can map
LPT1: to a command e.g. "|lpr"
How can I use this? From my applications I only see the printers from
my CUPS. How can I use a pritner like LPT1:
