DOS programs unable to create files on Samba 2.2.7a
We have a few old DOS programs which, when run under Windows 2000 is a DOS full screen session are unable to write files on our Samba server. These programs (the "brief" editor, and the "tango" CAD package) are able to write to local files on the Windows 2000 system. I set Samba debug to 10 and found the following reported when Tango tried to write a file:

smbwrapper/smbw.c does not compile (Error 1)
After discovering a bug in the SuSE Samba binary (2.2.7a and 2.2.8a) which prevents some older DOS programs from creating files on a Samba share, I downloaded and built Samba 2.2.8a from the sources. Everything seems to work now (the old DOS programs are able to write to Samba shares) with the exception of smbwrapper which causes the following errors when Samba is built:

off topic but need your pointers about statistics
Hi all, I apologize for this off-topic question but I need your help -- I know there are lots of experts here. As a lover and student of statistics, I am thinking of building a tree of various branches of statistics and keeping track of the greatest historical inventions/discoveries in statistics and the latest development of each branch. The goal is to understand in what context did the great

OS/2 client crash on "Find Close2"
Hello, I have just migrated an old OS/2 file server to a Linux box with Samba 3.0.23a. Now the OS/2 clients crash from time to time. I found a way to reproduce/force the crash using PMMail and did some experiments. The popuplog.os2 on the clients (Warp4 and eComStation) always names a sys3175 in pmshell.exe / doscall1.dll. Using Ethereal and comparing the network traffic between a) a client

Trouble seeing files on OS/2 server
I have just installed redhat linux 5.1 and samba on an old 486 in my office and would like to be able to use samba to connect to the hard drive on a nearby OS/2 warp4 box. The os/2 box has regular smb and smb over TCPIP installed. On the linux box smbclient can connect to and see a win95 machine on the net and the win95 machine sees the OS/2 box fine. When I use smbclient on the linux

winbind running in PDC Samba server
Hello, HOWTO chapter 21 describes the use of winbind daemon in a Samba domain member Server, but it's possible (and desirable) to run winbind in a PDC Samba server? The question is due to it that in that case it seems it is not necessary winbind for authenticate/mapping users against a external WinNT4 PDC, the Samba PDC perform authentication itself (and the mapping its not necessary, because

WinNT4 and Win2000 different behaviour authenticating to printer shares ?
I have set-up a Samba server (FreeBSD 4.5 release and Samba 2.2.2) which is used in our Office as a PDF-converter. The Server gets the file as a Postscript file using a Samba Printer share and then sends it back to the user by e-mail. This all works excellent using Win2000 on the clients. The user prints to the share PDF using a Postscript driver, the print job gets sent and a few seconds later

SAMBA on Solaris combined with WinNT4 Domain
Hello I have a problem with connectivity between Samba and NT. When I do a net view on an NT box like: "net view \\TESTSERVER" the system asks me for a username and password. Why is Samba asking for a user and password when on both system the same user and password exists. Im using the option EnablePlainTextPassword on WinNT. After typing the username and password (same as I used to

WinNT4 reports "Network path not found" when accessing share over certain length
I've got a Samba 2.2.3a server up and running, and it is working great. No major problems, but one slight annoyance. There is a share setup called "testing-files". In Windows 2000, access to this share works fine (and in Win95/98 if I remember right), but in Windows NT 4, an error stating "Network path not found" is given. If I rename the share to "testfiles", it

"Account Unknown" problem (Samba3 domain users in WinNT permissions)
Hello, I'm suffering a estrange problem in a WinNT-Samba3 environment. I have two servers: WinNT4 (PDC of domain A-DOMAIN) and Samba3 (PDC of B-DOMAIN). A-DOMAIN and B-DOMAIN trust each other (I had followed the procedures described in HOWTO Chapter 16 successfully). The problem arises when I assign permission in WinNT server's folders (A-DOMAIN) for users in the Samba domain (B-DOMAIN).

Unencrypted passwords -> Encrypted passwords: can't revert WinNT4 to use encrypted passwords
Hello, I'd be very grateful if anyone could share their ideas on this problem. The situation is this: I have a Solaris 8 machine running Samba 2.2.1a. The global configuration has "security = USER" and originally had "encrypt passwords = NO". I was able to map drives to shares on this machine from my WinNT 4 SP 5 workstation when I set the registry key advised by the

max filename length
I'm having some weird problems with filename lengths. Here are the symptoms: - I can not rename a file from explorer to have more than 127 characters. After typing in a filename, it prompts me with the "are you sure you want to change the extension" dialog. It gets truncated to 127 characters, and doesn't have an extension. The filename shows up from a UNIX shell having only

crash using bmp() on windows with Rdll2010 (PR#756)
A few weeks ago I have updated R-1.1.1 for Windows with the fixed R.dll (Rdll2010.zip) for Win2k from CRAN. (I have used the same version of R from WinNT4 *and* Win2k for some time.) Now I tried to produce a bitmap, but R crashes (WinNT4): bmp("bitmap.bmp") plot(1:10) dev.off() ## crash! That does not happen with the original R.dll from R-1.1.1 (15 Aug 2000). I cannot test on

Re: R-help Digest, Vol 2, Issue 26
With the same system configuration (WinNT4 SP6 and 1.7.0), I get such a Dr Watson crash each time I try to use the Change dir... command in the File menu of Rgui.exe. I doesn't seems to happen if I do this immediately after starting R but well if I already did some computation. I don't have any problem by using directly setwd(). advapi32.dll
Hello, Have solved all my problems with WINE, but one, which seems harder ;-) I have to run a little proggie "filesign.exe", and the lil bastartd relies heavily on advapi32.dll crypto stuff, (CryptAcquireContextA(), for example). From what I read on the code (dlls/advapi32/crypt.c), most of this functions are stubs, so no luck (it crashes all over with the return FALSEs) So, I tried

PB upgrade to samba 2.0
After I have upgraded from previous version to 2.0, I don't manage to authenticate from clients (winnt4) to DigitalUnix3.2c with Samba anymore. Before the upgrade it worked fine. After the upgrade, my password is rejected. It's really a authentication problem because it works fine if I add "guest ok = yes". On the server I have: security = share On the client:
