XP irratic delay in opening files....
Hi all I am fairly new to samba and XP. I have a client who we set up a samba server for, they are complaining about documents taking about 30 secs -2-3mins to open but only sometimes (it can be very frequent). I have seen this and captured a piece of the log file I wonder if any one can make any sense of it... I have been looking on the net and trying various things all day but to no avail...

Show stopper - 2nd cry for help
<Long Post, sorry!> Folks, I have a really nasty problem preventing me from migrating a bunch of NetWare 5 servers to Samba--attempts to copy large (> 2MB+) files to any samba share results in an error. To clarify what I mean by "error": 1. I attempt to copy, using explorer, a 2MB+ file to any samba share. 2. A 30 second or so pause occurs (copying this file to any other

Problems with Word 200 and Samba 2.2.6
I'm hoping someone has some insight into a problem I'm currenty having, which is: No one is able to edit (in place) documents with Word 2000 on a samba (2.2.6) disk share. A user can open word and save a document to the share, but when they go to edit the document Word says "Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error". From Microsoft KB Q211632 it appears

CPU consumption by samba
Hi, I'm having strange performance problems with samba and an application written with VisualFox Pro. This application is entirely installed in a Windows share and it has a hystory of strange phenomenons. Initially it ran fast on an old NT server (but that server has been replaced). It has strange performance problems with Windows 2000 Server: it runs fast with some servers and slow with

Mounting Linux Samba Shares on Windows when Active Directory Server is down
Hi, I am running Samba 3.6.19 and making my way through all the Active Directory documentation. I have joined various Linux boxes to a Windows Server 2008 R2 Active Directory domain. Windows 7 users who log on with their domain accounts can mount the correct shares exported by the Linux boxes without having to supply any additional credentials. All working perfectly! However, I have a

File transfer corruption (NULL characters)
I've got a couple of Solaris 7 boxes that are running samba 2.2.0. When I try to copy text files from a windows 2000 client to the server, the resulting file is filled with all NULL characters. I tried copying the same file to a NT server's share and there was no corruption. When copying to the solaris share, the windows 2000 client eventually gives the following error: The

NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
I am new to Samba, but not to Linux. I hope someone here can point me in the right direction. I have installed Samba and it appears to be working, at least as far as I have tested it. However, I have hit a snag in my testing. I have searched Google for several hours but I have not found a solution. On a Linux machine (named "annwn") running Fedora Core 6, I have set up a share, using

Problem saving files from XP to Samba on 2.2.6pre2
Hi team, I've got a problem with a WinXP client being unable to save a document to a Samba share. The server is running 2.2.6pre2 (on FreeBSD 4.6). The XP client hangs for a VERY long time when attempting to save a file (at least the first file saved - the problem seems to diminish for subsequent saves/files). Turning the debug level to 3 produces the following messages (repeated many many

XP clients unable to read user profiles (2.2.3a-14.1)
Hi everyone, thanks to John Terpstra's hint (teh old thread started with Msg crn5v6$sh8$1@sea.gmane.org), our xp clients now do join the domain :-). However, they still fail to read user profiles which were created by the old Win98 clients. The relevant parts of smb.conf look like this: ---------------------------- begien smb.conf ---------------------------- [global] domain

Samba DC issue.
Hello, I'm trying to use samba (Version 2.2.3a-6 for Debian) as a DC for a windows 2000 pro network. Everything seems to work OK, except the roaming profiles. Every few days (I haven't locked down a pattern yet) all machines connected to the server loose their connection, and no one can connect again until the server is rebooted. I'm using log level 3, and this is what log.smbd

smb mount as root, access as non-root. Changed behaviour between samba 3.0.x and 3.4.x?
Hi List, I have an appliance ("the client") which mounts a CIFS share from a Samba server - the Samba server usually runs on an Ubuntu system. Within the client, the root user executes a mount command like this: mount.cifs \\UBUNTUSERVER\archive /tmp/Default \ -o noserverino,user='someuser',pass='somepassword',uid='50',gid='7' That uid/gid pair

unable to run login scripts in [netlogon]
My Windows XP SP3 clients aren't loading their logged_in_username.bat from my netlogon share, and I can't figure out why. It looks like in the log file the Windows PCs are loading the script, its just not executing it on the windows PCs for some reason, but if I click start, run, and type in \\roark\netlogon\scripts\jholland.bat it runs fine. Running samba 3.0.31 and here's the

rename not working while all other things work?
Hi folks, I've got a serious problem with samba since I upgrade an stone-age caldera-box with a 2.0.x-samba to redhat-7.2 with 2.2.1a-samba. I can create, delete directories and files without any problems. But renaming them (i.e. by creating a new folder which has new folder as default) does not work. I always get an error, that the file does not exist. I am trying from a win2k-professional

Can't write to a samba share...
I have a Red Hat 8.0 PC with a scanner connected and I am scanning images with sane. I would like to store the scanned images on a Red Hat 7.3 file server using Samba, but I am having some difficulty understanding how the file and directory security preferences work. I can attach to the share (called "Shared") with: smbmount //server/Shared /mnt/S -o username=username%password and

NFS mount problem
Hi, We have a major problem using Samba to access NFS mounted directories. The directory in question is on a Snap server running OS 3, and Samba is running on a new Sun V250 running Solaris 9; the NFS directory is mounted using udp. The problems occur when trying to load a file, which causes the samba process to crash. Another process starts automatically, crashes and so forth. However, the

cant rename directories on NT
Everything is working perfect on win95 but from NT4: I can create, delete and rename files I can create and delete directories Problem: I can't rename created directories from the NT4 workstations on the network. And this is a big problem since NT4 creates a "New Folder" and asks you to type in the name you want. I have a 2.0.6 distribution on a SGI Origin200 Irix6.4 server. I
