Unable to validate owner sid.
I am trying to run Samba 2.2.4 on solaris 2.8 with W2K clients. I have an NT app installed onto the Solaris 8 server which i would like to run off of the mapped samba network drive. When i try to start the NT app it attempts to read a file on the samba drive called .root.passwords but fails (This file can be accessed with notepad). The following is an extract from the samba error log. I get the

Hi, I havn't herd anything more about this but i have been doing some reading up on winbindd. It appears that i cant use this anyway as it only works on Linux at the moment and i'm using Solaris (Is this correct?). I have now removed winbindd my configuration. I'm still unsure about how to tell if its the domain SID or the SID of the box. Cheers Tom -----Original Message-----

" ERROR! Out of file structures" with smbd, and Arcserve IT on sm b share
Hi again, I was previously writing for a problem with Arcserve IT and Samba (with linux). The connection drops after 15 minutes. Continuing to understand what's happening, I discovered the following message in the logs: [1999/06/01 14:42:08, 0] smbd/files.c:file_new(85) ERROR! Out of file structures Immediatly I ran into the samba code to try to understand the cause of the problem.

strange: failing upload of special profile-dirs
Hi to everyone, Something quite strange occured to me this weekend as we wanted to switch our network to w2k ads structure with a sambaserver as main fileserver running winbind. The windowsprofiles are supposed to reside on the sambaserver and the client successfully loads the initial profile. The first time the user logs on to his machine, he gets some default .msi-softwarepackages assigned by

Trouble with copying a file from Windows 95 to a mapped drive
A PC running Windows 95 has a share mounted from a Samba 2.0.7 server running under Mac OS X Server. An attempt is being made to copy a file on the PC called suse.iso to a subdirectory of the share (faberlab) on the Samba server. The PC hangs a bit and eventually complains that it can't create the file. Here is the debug log starting from the moment the copy has begun... [2000/06/02

Error when Synchronising
I'm trying ot get Windows 2K off line folders to work but it fails when writing a file back to the Samba share reporting that access is denied on the share. But I can copy and replace the file manually without a proplem. Running Samba 2.2.7-security-rollup-fix on Redhat 8 (upto date) Samba Logfile for Machine account is below. Any ideas? short preserve case
On 3.0.2 and 3.0.3pre1 (AIX 5.2), we are having an issue here short names are not consistently lower-cased with winXP/SP1 client authed as the listed admin user or any other valid user. Samba compiled with -D_ALL_SOURCE and -D_LINUX_SOURCE_COMPAT. Later in the show just -D_ALL_SOURCE. stanza is as follows... Samba 2.2.8a and HP-UX 11.11 (11i)
I read a message from the archives that describes nearly our exact problem that has begun to appear after 11i was installed on our server. File access has become slow and unreliable, especially under high loads. As a matter of fact, I had a logon script running a series of echo -- it was executing them at about 1 line every 2 seconds. The way we "solved" the problem was moving the Samba

missing .dlls .exes?
Hi there; I have samba-2.2.7a installed as PDC for Windows2K, XP, 98 (have not tested yet. It appears to work with 2K and XP. However, I have a few problems and I'd appreciate your comments. 1) net time \\linux /yes takes 30-40second on both 2K and XP 2) logging in on the server gives me the following errors: unix_clean_name [/wshENU.DLL] unix_clean_name [wshENU.DLL]

Help! problems with Arcserve. Can someone decrypt the logs ?
Hi everyone, We use samba 2.0.4 and are very glad of it. However, recently I had to add a backup facility on our network, so we plan to purchase Arcserve IT for NT, in order to backup our servers. We are using mainly 3 Linux servers and 1 NT server, which runs the backup service. However, as Itried to add a simple share on the file server to enable backup, later I encounter problems with

(no subject)
I'm having a problem with files locking so that every time the are opened up they are opened as Read-Only. Windows doesn't see them as readonly but Samba thinks that they are write=no and so they can't be saved or deleted. I've included a log, my smb.conf, and a getfacl of a user's home directory as well as a getfacl of the directory from /home. Any help would be

Samba 3b3, cups117 and point-n-click blues. Looks like Samba bug? HELP! part 2
I've attempted to do the same using Win2k's APW. At first it looks like it's going to work, but at the very last part it gives an access denied error. It gives the errors AFTER it copies all the files to the server... Here's the log.spleen (my win2k is spleen): unix_clean_name [W32X86/PSCRIPT.NTF] [2003/08/08 16:46:05, 3] lib/util.c:unix_clean_name(580) unix_clean_name

Directories show empty after some time ...
Sorry that I will ask a kind of a vague question, but I don't really know how to proceed at the moment: Some of our Samba (1.9.18p10) users experience the following problem: they map a drive to a Samba share (pointing into AFS, if that matters) and see all files/dirs correctly after the password dialog. 'Some time' later (for one user usually about one hour) they try to use the drive

dotless i problem samba3 - win98
Hello, I try samba 3.0.2a with Mandrake 10 Official release. It works pretty well but one exception, "dotless i", a Turkish character. The other Turkish characters works. If any filename contains dotless i, this file/directory is inaccessible from win98 clients. I setup with Turkish locale. And i run samba with "export LC_ALL=C". Otherwise it runs, but doesn't share

Help with accessing shares from win9x using 2.0.6
Hello All, I recently downloaded, compiled, and installed vs 2.0.6 of samba on a Digital Unix 4.0E system. I set up security to point to our single NT domain controller, and set up a user map for those users who don't have identical Unix and NT Domain usernames. I can access all of the shares correctly from an NT client. On Win9x, I can map the shares and see the first level directory,
