Login script doesn't run
Hi, The login script has worked for our win98 computers since the dawn of time (or there abouts). Then something happened or I did something and the login script doesn't run anymore. I can run it manually. This was version 2.2.3a. I started smbd with -d10 and didn't see any call for a script. Is the login script mentioned in a working system? In an effort to fix this, I deleted and

Login script doesn't run - Solved
I hate being stupid. Here is the answer: This won't work: [global] logon script = %U.bat # Win9x needs this This will work: [global] # Win9x needs this logon script = %U.bat The comment has to be on it's own line. Thanks to all for trying to help. Bob Crandell (bob@assuredcomp.com) wrote*: > >Hi, >The login script has worked for our win98 computers

How to join Linux to Win2k PDC
Hi All, Sorry for asking the most repeated question again. Just because I could not get a proper guide for doing this. Can anyone please tell me how to make a linux system running samba server and client to connect ( log on to ) to a windows2000 based domain and act as a part of it ? Any useful link also would do. thanks in advance :-) senthil -------------- next part -------------- HTML

Exporting samba mount via NFS
Perhaps I'm trying to do something that is not allowed, but I have found no such restriction in the documentation. To limit the contact of my Linux boxes with the "products of Bill & Co.", I have mounted a Windows share on my Linux server. When I try to export that same share from the Linux server (as a plain old NFS volume), it mounts without error, but the mountpoint

Problems with Access Control for Shares on Samba 2
Hi all ! I have a question regarding the access control in Samba 2. I want to make shares available to the Windows Network for which only the owner of the share has write access. Other users however should be able to read and browse these shares. My smb.conf : global] workgroup = leat guest account = nobody keep alive = 30 os level = 2 kernel oplocks = false security = user

Who else can reproduce this problem?
I truely believe I've stumbled across a bug deleting directories. The bug is either with Windows 2000 or with Samba 2.2.1a and 2.2.2. I'd tend to think it was a Windows bug except that the problem does not occur against earlier versions of Samba. I've duplicated this problem deleting directories to Samba versions 2.2.2 and 2.2.1a in various configurations running on several

Linux box talks to XP Pro, XP Pro permissions denied on LinuxBox
My linux box can see, browse, and copy files from an XP Share. However, when I try to access the box either via its network name (\\linuxbox <file:///\\linuxbox> ) or by ip address (\\192.168.1.231 <file:///\\192.168.1.231> ) Windows shows me an error stating I don't have permissions to access the resource. I have been through the HowTo, and the Troubleshooting section of the

Easy security administration?
Hello. I've got several clients using samba (ranging from 2.2.1a to 2.2.5) as their primary windows server. The question has come up with clients about ease of administration and security rights for samba. Currently, the only way I've been able to show clients how to manipulate security settings and restrict users from certian shares is to use write and read lists per share, or create

Reloading Smb.conf automatically?
Just a few quick questions: If I make changes to smb.conf, do I need to restart the SMB and NMB services, or is it like Vixie Cron, where it'll re-read the file and adapt changes every minute? Why do I have multiple NMB instances running, but only one SMB? Thanks for the help! Aton

Win2K and Samba
Has anyone tried using Windows 2000 Professional with Samba? I'm checking it out now, and when I try to connect to a share, I get an error message similiar to the one you get with Win98 and NT4 with SP3+ with encrypted passwords. Does anyone know the equivelant registry path to set plain text passwords? The NT4 path doesn't seem to exist:

Profiles and automatic drive mappings
Hello, I have a mixed network of 98 and 2000 machines with RH 7.3 and Samba 2.2.5 The problem I'm having is my logon scripts contain a drive map to the user's home directory: net use H: \\server01\dave$ That works great for the 98 machines, but the 2000 machines map H: and Z: to \\server01\dave$ The 2000 machines also write a profile dirctory in that share, and copy the entire desktop

Sage Line 50
Hi all, I am attempting to get Sage to support their software if the files are on Samba (Linux). They (like a lot of people I've heard) say "We don't support Linux, Goodbye." even when the client is on Win98/NT. We have been having trouble on a particular site, and they refuse to support Sage Line 50 if the files are on Linux which is absurd, because Linux is much more

Oplocks - samba 2.2.4 & Windows 2000 server
In investigating some performance issues (elderly server with just 10Mbps ethernet), I noticed that smbstatus reported hardly any open files with oplocks. In particular files opened with Office 2000 & XP stay un-oplocked. I have checked and testparm claims oplocks are enabled and manual says this is so by default. The clients are all Windows 2000 servers - so we have 1 samba connection with

Roaming profiles
I want to setup a linux box with samba as a file and print server for a LAN of 20 NT 4.0 SP3 workstations. I want the home direcotories to be on the server the clients to have roaming profiles. For this, do I have to make the linux box a domain controller? I want to avoid it if I can, because the domain control code in not on the production releases. I don't want to setup an NT server either.

Profiles and local profile copy
Hello. Whenever I attach a 2000 Pro workstation to a Samba server, a directory is created under the user's home directory called "profile", and the local profile syncs with this directory. Its not usually bothersome until someone leaves 2 GIG of data on their desktop and when they logoff, Windows syncs the entire 2 GIG of data to the server. How do I disable this? Attaching a 2000

printer admin problems with 2.2.4
We upgraded from 2.2.3a to 2.2.4 on a SuSE 7.2 server. We compiled Samba just default. The new version seems to work ok with the exception of printer administration. Printer admins are not able to see the properties of the printers (right click on printer gives on error). Our workstations are W2k SP2. But users that are not printer admin are able to see the properties of a printer, but they

Mac Phusion Passenger Pane not working
I have a feeling that this is something centered around my apache/Passenger configurations but everything seems to check out. Another off the hand problem I''m having, and might be a clue is w/ my Passenger Pane. I installed the Phusion Passenger Pane and every time I try to add an entry, I get this error: "Your changes couldn’t be saved See the Console log for details."

WinY2k Access Denied on Printing
I have a Red Hat Linux release 7.1 (Seawolf) Samba 2.2.4 PDC and fileserver built with --with-ldapsam. The clients are either win9x or WinY2k. Authenitcation, etc... all works great. But print sharing is a real pain. Under 2.2.1a printing worked great, but our VOIP phone system wouldn't joint the domain until we upgraded to 2.2.4. Initial testing of 2.2.4 made it seem like everything
