BUG: when using 'addprinter command'
When using the 'addprinter command' a Win2K client can add a printer to a samba server. When de wizards is at it's end it first gives a error of 'Access diened' when executing for the second time it gives 'Printer already existed'. This has to do with the following pieces of code : ---- srv_spoolss_nt.c - spoolss_addprinterex_level_2 ----- if ((snum =

losing print driver associations on reboot
Hello all, I've got a strange problem with Samba 2.2.4. I'm able to associate print drivers to printers (raw queue in cups). My clients are able to see that the drivers belong to the printers, and they download them, but as soon as the server reboots, I lose my driver associations and I need to once again specify a driver on the windows end. The Print server was an upgrade from Samba

Is Samba 2.2.4 stable & error free
Hi, I am planning on upgrading our Samba servers to a more current version (presently we have 2.0.6) Just wondering if 2.2.4 is the best version to implement, or if an earlier version would be more stable, e.g. 2.2.3a I ask this question because I've seen a few messages on the mailing lists suggesting errors in 2.2.4, but don't know if these are real errors or just people with a bad

Samba 2.2.4 and Solaris 8
I'm having a couple of problems with Samba 2.2.4 on Solaris 8. First problem - Using gcc 2.95.2, everything comes out OK, but shared libraries seem to fail at install phase. The output indicates that they're non-existent. Second problem - VFS examples, audit and recycle. They build OK, but there are all sorts of undefined references at runtime. Could these two issues be due to the use of

tdb errors with 2.2.4
Hi All, I am running a samba 2.2.4 domain controller and since the upgrade from 2.2.3a have been getting the following error messages in the logs. tdb(/etc/samba/secrets.tdb): tdb_oob len 943289144 beyond eof at 8192 Running Redhat 7.2. Anyone know how to fix this / root cause of the problem? I have a domain with 300+ machines so I'm hoping for something non-destructive. Regards Anthony.

Fix for smbpasswd Samba 2.2.4 on Solaris only taking 8 character passwords
Under Samba 2.2.4 (and possibly earlier), smbpasswd (when run locally) only really reads the first 8 characters, as opposed to the full password. Obviously, this can cause mass confusion. :) The fix is pretty simple (I would offer a diff, but this is the kind of thing the configure script should check for...) - under Solaris getpass() will only return 8 characters - you must use getpassphrase()

Problems with samba 2.2.4
Dear Sirs. I have here running samba 2.2.4 compiled on Redhat 7.2 with kernel 2.4.17 with ACL support on EXT3 (http://acl.bestbits.at) and winbindd. Winbind works. I can ssh as a NT4 user and use samba network shares as a NT user without username mapping. (no German special characters, no spaces in user name). 1. In smb.conf veto files = /quota.*/lost+found/.*/ doesn't work 2. In

Win2k Printer Woes Continue
I installed the printer patch on 2.2.4 on my Linux 7.3 box, reconfigured it (I think I did things in the correct order:configure, make realclean, run patch,configure,make,sh.makerpms.sh), created a new rpm, uninstalled the old samba, reinstalled the new rpm, fixed the conf files, reloaded samba and now my printers appear as "HPLASERJET on _smbserver". HPLASERJET is queue name which is

Upgrade From 2.2.3a to 2.2.4 Broke Solaris 8 PDC
Trying to upgrade from 2.2.3a to 2.2.4 broke our Solaris 8 PDC. We see the following issues: - Compile flag -KPIC is not valid for gcc, does not seem to bread build - Now looks like directory /usr/spool/samba is needed, but not created by install - smbclient -L hemlock fails with login problem: [2001/10/16 10:43:28, 0] smbd/password.c:connect_to_domain_password_server(1295)

PANIC: share_modes_identical
When 2.2.4 was released, I updated my cvs and did ./configure and make (no special options). Since I came in somewhat early today and nobody was around I did the make install. Everything ran fine until I tried to load a particular file and I'm receiving the following error and unable to open the file on a network share. If I place the file on a local drive it loads fine. How well does printing support scale in Samba 2.2.x ?
Hi, I'm working on a printing project consolidating a bunch of NT machines with a Solaris printing machine. I'm concerned about the scalability if I increase the number of printers from say 20 too 300. How does it effect the response time for looking up and changing device setting etc. Thanks Gunnar Gunnarsson

SOLVED! PDC and BDC with LDAP and Samba 2.2.4
It's me again, with the solution to my problems. To get a working BDC, you have to kill samba, delete your secrets.tdb, create a MACHINE.SID and then restart samba. You will have to do this on the PDC and the BDC to have the same SID the the secrets.tdb file. Then machine account are valid even if you move your PDC, or you add a 2nd BDC, as long as you create the MACHINE.SID file before the

"password server" not working: 2.2.4
I've been having some trouble getting ACLs to work under my Samba 2.2.4 client (talking to my 2.2.4 "PDC"). Finally, I checked the log and realized that it wasn't able to map SIDs to UID/GIDs. Further checking, and I realized that the client never made the request to the server. Here's some output from smbpasswd: smbpasswd -D 4 fred Initialising global parameters
