Installation Help, Please !!!
I have been having some difficulty with the installation of samba V2.0.3 on an ultraSparc 3000 server. I was able to get it built, I have configured, defined an smb.conf file, created an smbpasswd file, and I still get errors when I work through the Diagnosing Samba checklist. BTW, I have checked the conf file using testparms and corrected the problem mentioned there! I am using the newest source

Samba 2.2.3a and password expiration?
One of my users complained that his Win2kSP2 complains that his password Is going to expire in 8 days. A while ago we changed from Win2k domain to a Samba 2.2.3a controlled domain. How do I disable the password expiration? I read the man pages and searched Google but couldn't find any hints about the issue. It almos seems like this expiration thing should not be happening at all...?

What to do for ACL support?
Hi! I'm trying to setup samba 2.2.4 on MandrakeLinux 8.2. The server should act as a file storage for about 25 Windows 2000 clients. Setting up a "basic" server which just serves the files is easy. However, I'd also like to support NT ACLs on the Samba server. Well, what do I have to do, to get it to work? I'm using the Mandrake RPM for 2.2.4, which has ACL support

ACL fully functional?
I have compiled both my kernel (2.4.17) and samba (2.2.3a) to support ACL/EAs. It looks like it has gone well, but I get one message that worries me, but I don't know if it should or not. checking whether to support ACLs... checking for acl_get_file in -lacl... yes checking for ACL support... yes Using posix ACLs checking for acl_get_perm_np... no As you can see, the last line is where my

WINS Retention
How does one get rid of machines from the WINS database? They seem to hang around forever....and a restart doesn't solve it because the WINS data just gets passed around... Michael D. Black mblack@csihq.com http://www.csihq.com/ http://www.csihq.com/~mike 321-676-2923, x203 Melbourne FL

nt/2000 password has expired
Hi, I have setup samba on redhat 7.3 and configured it as a windows 2000 Primary Domain Controller. Everything works fine, however, everytime that Windows NT or 2000 clients log onto the domain they get a message stating that their password has expired and asking them if they want to change it. It doesn't matter if you answer Yes and change it or answer No and just continue on, the message

Local lmtp proxy on backend server
Hi Aki, you have some ingenious remark that could help? -----Original Message----- To: aki.tuomi; dovecot Subject: RE: Local lmtp proxy on backend server I am staring constantly at the same logs, this is what I get from dovecot[1]. Sendmail[2] is sending with test at svr1 maybe this overrides lmtp proxying? This is a test with a special-userdb passwd-file also having host=svr2 [1] Dec

index location
Greetings. We are testing with 1.2.9 and have found that with mail_full_filesystem_access set to 'yes', we cannot force indexes for folders under ~/mail to be stored in /var/dovecot/indexes/%u. /var/dovecot/indexes/%u/.imap/INBOX/dovecot.index* is created just fine, but everything else ends up in ~mail/.imap. If I change mail_full_filesystem_access to 'no', then all indexes

Post-login scripting with virtual users
I am running Dovecot 2.0.13 on Fedora 15. I have migrated from a bincimap installation using checklocalpwd. All email is in folders owned by a unprivileged user, popuser. The email users are entirely virtual and have no relationship to actual linux users. My userdb calls return the UID and GID of popuser and all goes well retrieving the mail via POP3 and IMAP. I am trying to implement a

printing with lprng
I recently set up samba-2.2.3a on FreeBSD 4.5-RELEASE. I'm having troubles getting printing to work. I have LPRng-3.76 installed, and it works just fine using the command line tools. When I print from a windows client over smb, however, I can see the job go into the spool directory, but then it magically vanishes, with nothing in any log files. Has anyone experienced this type of strange

Dovecot crashing when attempting to search in virtual folder with fts_squat activated
Hi everyone, I am running into a problem when trying to use fts_squat in a virtual folder. Without fts_squat plugin the search (from, subject...) works in all folders. With activated fts the search on the inbox folders works expectedly well but any attempt to search anything in any virtual folder leads to the following error. Similarly when attempting "doveadm fts lookup". I also

Userdb userdb_mail=, error Mailbox list driver maildir++: maildir_name not supported by this driver
I have this default configuration [0], when use the userdb_mail to point to the mdbox location, the inbox subfolders show differently in a firebird client. So I decided to copy the whole default mail_location into the userdb_mail configuration [2]. But then I get errors [3]. Should I change the namespace configuration here, how? My default namespaces are inbox and 4archives [0] [@ ]#

Userdb userdb_mail=, error Mailbox list driver maildir++: maildir_name not supported by this driver
With this setting, all folders are empty, I guess understandable, because the mdbox has its own indexes stored locally with it. Does not explain though why inbox is empty. [@ dovecot]# cat special-userdb test:x:8267:231:Account with special settings for dovecot:/home/popusers/test:/bin/false:userdb_mail=mdbox:~/mdbox:INBOX=/ var/spool/mail/%u:INDEX=/var/dovecot/%u/index With this setting
