Specing with Subdomains as Account Keys
How do you go about implementing and rspecing subdomains as account
keys? I''m sure that this must be an issues for others as well.
So I have an app using subdomains as account keys. The Application
Controller sets up @current_company in a before filter. Everything is
done within the context of the @current_company.

DO NOT USE Software Raid1 and Ext3
Conclusion:
DO NOT USE SOFTWARE RAID-1 WITH EXT3
I've started with this conclusion cause i am positive that raid-1 and ext3
are causing data corruption.
I've upgraded from 7.1 to 7.2 and from the first date i run into data
corruption problems @ least once per day (i was monitoring once per day
only) after 7 days we bought a brand new server cause the previous was very
old and i thought

Mapped username then gets mapped to "Anonymous"
Hi Everyone,
I have setup a Samba share to work on our local network with a username
map to accommodate Windows XP usernames with spaces, but it seems that
Samba maps the username correctly but then immediately changes it to an
Anonymous request. Am I missing something? Clip from log file:

change raid1 from ext2 to ext3
Hi,
I want to change my running software raid1 from ext2 to ext3. I'am
currently running RH 7.1 with 2.4.18. The raid constist of two 40GB
disks on a seperate UDMA Controller (HPT370). The system is installed
on another disk. Can I just use tune2fs -j /dev/md0, or do need to
rebuild the raid from scratch with ext3?
Many thanks for your help!

Ingo

is EXT3 data=journal, 2K block size, 2.5 series kernel stable?
A while back, after 2.5.6, there were various changes made to the kernel
that resulted in some instability with journaled data on ext3
filesystems, as well as small issues with my 2k block size file systems.
Can someone (say, Andrew Morton ;) comment on the stability of the
current release with this sort of configuration?
If it's not full of known bugs then I will give it another shot, but I

EXT3 fs error on RAID1 device
Hi all.
I have a Dell SC440 running Centos 4.4. It has two 500GB disks in a
RAID1 array using linux software raid (md1 is / and md0 is /boot).
Recently the root file system was remounted read-only for some reason.
The logs don't show anything unusual, presumably the file system was
read-only before anythng was logged. Running dmesg showed this error
repeated many times:

RAID1 + Ext3 + Automatic Power Resets
I am testing EXT3 as a filesystem for a server whose
power supply is failure prone.
In order to do the test, I have a lever that I can
control from PC1 that can press the reset button on
PC2. PC2's reset button is automatically pressed once
every 120 seconds (the boot sequence on PC2 takes 80
seconds).
While PC2 is booted, PC1 directs email and web
requests at PC2, so that the PC2 disks are

md raid1 - no speed improvement
Hi,
I have two 320 GB SATA disks (/dev/sda, /dev/sdb) in a server running
CentOS release 5.
They both have three partitions setup as RAID1 using md (boot, swap,
and an LVM data partition).
# cat /proc/mdstat

Frequent metadata corruption with ext3 + hard power-off
Hello.
I'm having serious issues with ext3; any insight would be greatly appreciated:
_____ Overview:
I believe ext3 is supposed to be recoverable in the case of a power failure by
replaying the log.
However, on two separate computers (running different operatings systems too),
this has been everything but the case.
_____ Specifics:
Sometimes, my kernel will hard-freeze and I'll

unexpected raid1 behavior?
Hi, I''m starting to play with btrfs on my new computer. I''m running Gentoo and
have compiled the 2.6.31 kernel, enabling btrfs.
Now I have 2 partitions (on 2 different sata disks) that are free for me to
play with, each about 375 gb in size. I wanted to create a "raid1" volume
using these two partitions, so I did:
# mkfs.btrfs -d raid1 /dev/sda5 /dev/sdb5
# mount

ext3 on Linux software RAID1
Everyone,
We just had a pretty bad crash on one of production boxes and the ext2
filesystem on the data partition of our box had some major filesystem
corruption. Needless to say, I am now looking into converting the
filesystem to ext3 and I have some questions regarding ext3 and Linux
software RAID.
I have read that previously there were some issues running ext3 on a
software raid device

e2image, ext3 and nightly backups.
I have been looking at integrating the e2image tool into my nightly
backup routines for my systems, to improve the odds that I can get data
back if something disastrous happens to my file system.
I have a couple of questions about this, though, to work out if this is
actually worth doing.
Is e2image worth running if the file system is online and in use, under
the 2.6 series kernels, as part of

mode data=journal in ext3. Is it safe to use?
Hello
I try again.
Can anybody of you acknowledge or not if mode data=journal in ext3 is
safe to use in Linux kernel 2.6.x?
Wee need to have a very consistent and integrity for our filesystem, and
it would then be desired to journal both data and metadata.
But if this mode can corrupt the filesystem as both Phil White and
Nicolas Kowalski has experienced, it may be more advised to use mode

Anyone noticed slow rendering performance with formhelpers?
It seems like the form helpers, such as "link_to" and "check_box" really
slows down rendering when you have hundreds of rows.
Has anyone else noticed this?? Is there a way to go around it apart
from typing the raw html?

Puppet updating from relative directories or chroot
Anyone had any experience getting puppet to update multiple OS''s on a
single server?
For example, for a set of blades Network booting from a primary
server, the OS for each blade would be stored on the primary server.
For example:
/pxe/host1/<normal OS directory structure>
/pxe/host2/<normal OS directory structure>
.....
/pxe/hostn/<normal OS directory structure>
