file permission problem
I have Samba 2.2.1a installed on RedHat 7.2, using RedHat's rev 4 RPMs
(samba-common, samba-client, samba, and samba-swat 2.2.1a-4). I have the
PDC part working. But there is one file share giving me problems. I have
a folder, /export0, which I want all the domain users to be able to use.
I have a group, unboundtech, which all the domain users are a member of.
The /export0 is owned by

users can't change permissions on samba share
I have 2.2.5 (installed using binary RPM) on Red Hat 7.2 (should be
fully up2date). This server is acting as a PDC, and is working fine for
the most part. The problem I'm having is that nobody can change
permissions for files and folders on a service. I've attached my
smb.conf. I believe everyone change edit permissions for files/folders
in their profile. But nothing in the Public

Samba 3.0 alpha20-2 and Win2k SP3
Is there anyone on the list that has been able to get Win2k SP3 working
with the 3.0 alpha version?
I'm able to join but I can NOT log in. I can see the machine account
listed in pass.tdb (using pdbedit -l) and it is also in passwd & shadow.
I HAVE ALSO APPLIED THE SIGN OR SEAL PATCH. The message I get is:
"The system cannot log you on to this domain because the system's

Connection to Samba works for Win2k but not XP
At work I have a Linux box running Mandrake 8.1 and Samba 2.2.1a. I
have the Samba server setup to request login in name and passwords.
Several people have been connecting to this machine for the past several
years via Windows 2000 with no problem. Recently some of us have
finally been upgraded to Windows XP. When I no try connecting to the
Samba server, I get a login in prompt as usual.

Advice on Win98 -> Win2K transition?
My LAN is running Samba v2.0.10 on RedHat Linux v7.1 and everything is
running great. Not content to leave well enough alone, we will soon be
converting all the Win98 clients to Win2K. What kind of Samba-related
difficulties, if any, should I expect?
Samba exports both shared drives and printers to the client machine on the
Network. Client machines are given access to their home drives as

Prints ok, but says "Access denied, unable to connect". win2k and samba 2.2.1a
I have a small Samba 2.2.1a plus Win2k workgroup. Samba is running on
Redhat

There is a networked laserjet 5000 using a static IP which I can print

The weird thing is that, on the win2k worksations, if I double click on

Problem with printer driver sharing Win2k klients.
Hi...
I got this new server at work that I have to get 100% up and running by
tomorrow.
It's running Samba 2.2.1a on SuSE 7.3 Pro
It's supposed to be VPN - File and Printer Server
The printers are:
One OCE 700C / CS90 color copier and One OCE 3165
And there is only one problem left.
I can install the printer drivers for Win9x & NT on the samba server.
But I can't figure out how to

WinXP - Can Join 2.2.2 domain - Not log on
I have read through the mail archives to find a solution to my problem...
to no avail. Here is the issue:
I have a Samba 2.2.2 acting as a PDC, with Win2k I can join the domain
and logon as a domain user. No problem. (So it is working and set up
properly).
With WinXP - Pro, I can join the domain, successfully. However, once I
do the reboot I cannot logon as a domain user as I did with

Samba 2.2.12 Hardware Migration Policy Issue Win2K
Hello All,
I had been successfully running Samba 2.2.8a on a FreeBSD 4.7
box for a couple years using roaming profiles. The box was
functioning as PDC. The hardware was getting old; I needed to
migrate to a new server. So, I built a FreeBSD 5.3-RELEASE box
on some relatively modern hardware and installed Samba 2.2.12. I
copied the master.passwd file to the new box, did the pwd_mkdb,
also copied

Win2k Printer Installation Woes Continue....
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!
Sorry, I'm a bit slap-happy...been fighting
Win2k/APW problems ever since I upgraded to 2.2.3a.
Still having problems >2.2.4-pre and now 2.2.4.
I have a workaround, sort of...set disable spoolss=no,
install drivers for the HP printers; then set
disable spoolss=yes. Add "use client driver=no"
on each of the HP printer entries. Add

Migrating from 2.2.8 to AD 2008R2
Hi,
We have an old samba server, 2.2.8a, running on freebsd 4.9, as a PDC.
There's currently a temporary, standalone mode, win2008r2 with an (mssql)
app that for full utility requires running on a ADC. I have very little
experience with AD. An older version of mssql and the app were running on a
standalone win2k server, which is still available if needed.
I've found various

Samba as PDC with Win2k/XP clients
I have a server running Samba 2.2.1a, which I'm trying to use as a PDC for
a small LAN with Windows 2000 Pro and Windows XP Pro clients. The main
problem I have is that users sometimes get this error when attempting to
logon:
`Windows cannot copy file
