Xen dom0 and ZFS boot?
Some background - I have a couple of NetBSD (i386) boxes and CentOS 5 boxes that I want to virtualise and I''m trying to work out which OS will be most suitable as the dom0. I have a desire to run at least RAID1 and ideally ZFS mirroring on the dom0 so I can have all the domU''s not have to worry about disk redundancy etc. My hardware : I have a brand new Intel E8200 core2duo and

Tinc and OpenWRT
Hey Saverio, I'd really like the idea of a tinc-1.1-pre package for OpenWRT. I'm currently using tinc-1.1 with an Ed25519-only network, really like the new features and CLI and want to add some OpenWRT routers into the mix. How do you plan to handle things with OpenSSL? tinc-1.1 from git should be able to compile without it (but will then only support the built-in algorithms). Depending

sample() fails with double or integer NA input of length one
Hi, I have discovered that sample() fails with an uninformative error message when the x argument is a single NA of type double or integer. I can reproduce the problem with the following code: base::sample(NA) # NA is of logical type above base::sample(NA_character_) base::sample(NA_complex_) base::sample(NA_real_) base::sample(NA_integer_) The last two lines throw the following error: Error

Tips punching through tight firewalls
Any tips or guidance on improving the probability of being able to connect to a Tinc daemon. I am currently on a guest wifi at a hospital for my in-laws family. Wanting to pass time and be semi productive, I tried to VPN back to my private networks but it appears the default port Tinc users is blocked. Here is what I know about their firewall:

smb.conf template homedir
For local login to our samba server, we are using posix information stored in an openldap directory. - I can log in via shell with no problems. We are authenticating samba against AD2003. I can attach to the samba server from both windows and macintosh - just not access my home directory. Currently, "template homedir = /home/%U" - which results in a path of /home/<username> I

Samba & SCO
Has anyone here installed samba on sco? I might have to install samba on a SCO 3.2 v 5.0.5 server and was wondering if there might be any complications, I'm used to freebsd so I'm not sure what I'm in for.

filefrag and btrfs filesystem defragment and maybe snapshots
While exploring some btrfs maintenance with respect to defragmenting I ran the following commands: # filefrag /path/to/34G.file /path/to/5.7G.file /path/to/34G.file: 2406 extents found /path/to/5.7G.file: 572 extents found Thinking those mostly static files could be less fragmented I ran: # btrfs filesystem defragment -c /path/to/34G.file # btrfs filesystem defragment -c /path/to/5.7G.file and

Problems with sftp under SCO OpenServer
Hello, I compiled OpenSSH 2.5.1p1 for SCO OpenServer 5.0.5, HPUX B.11.00, and SunOS 5.7. When I sftp into the HP or Sun box, everything works fine. However, whenever I sftp into the OpenServer box, all remote filenames are shown as "(null)". File sizes, owners, etc. display properly. This behavior is exhibited from all origination points. OpenSSH was configured with identical

Cannot compile - missing <make>
This is the very first time I ever tried to compile anything since college. I'm using SCO 5.0.5. I installed GNU gcc and the Linker package(s) from my SCO dist disc. After running ./configure --with-smbwrapper, I can't find `make` to continue and compile ... My book, Using Samba (O'Reilly), says that `make` and then `make install` should be my next step. It also mentions that

[LLVMdev] GSOC - HLVM Work
Gabe, I'm quite new to hacking on LLVM, but I'll give you an idea I had reading some of the recent dev list posts. I think investigating concurrency with regards to LLVM would be very useful (what with multi-cores and all). This could be concurrency in regards to GC, or it could be simply looking at how LLVM can best interface with standard concurrency paradigms (OpenMP, MPI)

Using RSYNC for Multiple Servers
Hi all, Am wanting to backup three servers to a AIT tape device that is connected to a SCO 5.0.5 server. Apart from itself, there is one other SCO 5.0.5 system and a Slackware Linux server. Is it possible to use RSYNC to backup all three servers from the primary SCO server to the tape device ? I wish to append to the tape device also for incremental backups. Any other suggestions appreciated.

Lots of Samba (smbd) processes
Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew why there would be so many Samba (smbd) processes running on my SCO OpenServer 5.0.5 system? I found an awful lot of them running, much more that what I would expect given the number of Windows PC's on the network. One of the users was having trouble accessing a file on the SCO system, and that is when I discovered this. I actually had to write a program

Very slow read.table on Linux, compared to Win2000
Dear all, I read.table a 17MB tabulator separated table with 483 variables(mostly numeric) and 15000 observations into R. This takes a few seconds with R 2.3.1 on windows 2000, but it takes several minutes on my Linux machine. The linux machine is Ubuntu 6.06, 256 MR RAM, Athlon 1600 processor. The windows hardware is better (Pentium 4, 512 RAM), but it shouldn't make such a difference.
