Sage Line 50
Hi all,
I am attempting to get Sage to support their software if the files are
on Samba (Linux). They (like a lot of people I've heard) say "We don't
support Linux, Goodbye." even when the client is on Win98/NT. We have been
having trouble on a particular site, and they refuse to support Sage Line
50 if the files are on Linux which is absurd, because Linux is much more

Re: NT4 SP7
Odd. I installed that hotfix on my workstation and it seems fine. Wonder
what's different about your configuration? I noticed there were a fair
number of issues with various packages listed in the release notes...

401 Bad Authorization
Hello,
I have problem witch SWAT authorization for all users with the following
error "username or password incorrect". With -a options SWAT works well.
I've compiled samba-2.2.4 from sources on my RedHat Linux 6.1 with kernel
2.2.21. I've compiled it with the following options:
./configure \
--prefix=/usr \

Slowdown and errors
Hi all,
I am having some strange problems on a customer site :
I am pretty sure I disabled oplocks entirely - I don't like the idea of
them, and would rather have stable data.
The customer (5-10 users) runs Sage Line 50, and until recently was
getting numerous errors within sage. We have temporarily replaced their
switch and this has reduced the fatality rate and a few

SV: SV: Problem regarding installation
OK! I'm sorry about this. As I wrote earlier I'm totally lost... but I will
try to
explain the problem in steps bellow, ok.
1. I installed the rpm's for samba, Version 2.0.2a-ssl I think this is the
version
distributed with redhat linux 7.0
2. Then I changed the parameters in the /etc/samba/smb.conf file,
and in this file I added the folowing parameters.

NT 4.0 SP7
Guess what, after I posted I came across the list of hotfixes for after SP6
for NT4.
It's basically SP7 under any other name - but requires SP6a installed.

It's a whopping 13.99 Mb to download (or if you believe IE's figures more

HOWTO Create a PDF Writer in samba
Hi all,
Thought I'd post this to the list as I found a better way of doing
it. Nice to have for posterity.
Please include it in the source of samba if you wish - I hereby license
it under GPL
1. install ghostscript (most distributions include it anyway)
2. put the following in the file /usr/sbin/pdfprint and make it executable
by whatever your guest user for samba is :
#!/bin/bash

2.2.5 "--with-lockdir" problem?
I have executed
./configure --with-lockdir=/var/lock/samba
and get a proper Makefile with
LOCKDIR = /var/lock/samba
The trouble is
strings ./usr/sbin/smbd | grep /var/lock
reports
/var/lock
not the expected /var/lock/samba! There are no entries for "lock
dir" or "lock directory" in smb.conf, and true to fashion
testparm -s | grep "lock dir"

locks cooperating with a server side process
Good day folks,
I'm using Samba 2.2.8a [1] on Slackware 9.1 with 2000/XP clients.
I'm attempting to have a process by which a user drags a file using
Windows Explorer into a share. On the server side, I have a unix
process that polls the directory for new files and then reads them and
deletes them.
I'm having a problem where I can gain the lock but the process is
still writing to

Little list of horrors.
Hi all,
I was investigating the SMB signing problems between Win2k
clients and Windows XP servers and thought I'd take a look to see
if there were any hotfix patches for Win2k that were post service
pack 2.
I discovered this list.... :

Naive suggestions for (kinda) funding
First of all, don't shoot me if I got some things wrong.
I personally recommend (without much success :-)) to buy from www.cheeplinux.com (Definite Software), because I believe this is of some help to the CentOS project. At least, to some people involved in it (please correct me if I'm wrong).
?1. Anyway, as PayPal is _not_ an option for some countries, donations to CentOS.org can't

samba performance issue
Hi, I recently installed a new samba server to replace an older Novell
machine. Now, we are having performance issues. I have installed many
samba servers, and have not run into this problem before. Some background
info:
The server is an Athlon 1800+ w/ 512MB DDR RAM. We are using software raid
on 80GB IDE ATA 100 drives with the VIA 82C3XX chipset. When mirroring the
drives, we usually get

Home shares staying (NT4)
I am having the same trouble with automatically mounted home shares with
samba 2.2.1a (PDC, domain logins, roaming profiles) and NT4WS sp6a. If
I login as one user, logout, then login as another, I can view the
previous users home share as well as my newly logged in users home share
(lather, rinse, repeat...). The NT box has a machine account, domain
logins work, profiles work, login scripts

How to bypass smbfs 2Gb limit without patching ?
Hello everyone,
I would like to send a big tar file (eg: >2Gbytes) from my Linux samba
server to a win2K client without patching the kernel.
Samba server: I'm using Linux version 2.4.8-26mdk (Mandrake Linux 8.1
2.96-0.62mdk) with samba 2.2.5-2.
I'm using tar (GNU tar) 1.13.22 to make the tar file and the command "cp" to
copy this tar file to my win2k client. I've never

samba ssh
I've got a situation where my webdesigners (win2k) are located on a
different subnet (and location) than the samba server.
I need a way of using a local (to the webdesigners) machine (linux) to use
SSH and port forward to the remote samba server. How does one go about
doing such a thing?

Re : Re: performance problem ??? AN ANSWER PLEASE ...
Did someone of you find a solution for our problerm ???
I send you the documented as you asked it but I always got the same
problems. I tried some possibilites for optimizing my system but I always
stay with my problem for writing files. Reading files from my shares is not
a problem but writing causes "buffers" problems with windows and windows
says he could not write all the blocks.

CD-RW Sharing
I am trying to share a CD-RW from the samba server (SuSE Linux 7.3, kernel
2.4.10) using Samba that came with the distribution.
I am using user level sharing and have successfully shared out disk shares
with both r and rw access. I can also access the CD-ROM and CD-RW in read
mode and even do an installation from the CD-ROM to a client.
When I try to create a CD using CD-RW, I get the following

Directory problems - not active directory
I use samba every day, and it works perfectly except :
I work for a reseller of a contact manager which runs on windows, doesn't
support UNC pathnames, but does support mapped drives, to all real windows
servers, and with an option, to a novell server.
The trouble is, this program uses directory structure intensively and
doesn't seem to be able to create directories properly on a

LFS Stuff
Hi,
The LFS page hosted on suse's servers states that smbfs has probs with
large files and it seems to be a bit out-of-date.

I can't correct him with authority, but maybe one of the team should.
