PANIC: share_modes_identical
When 2.2.4 was released, I updated my cvs and did ./configure and make (no
special options). Since I came in somewhat early today and nobody was
around I did the make install. Everything ran fine until I tried to load a
particular file and I'm receiving the following error and unable to open the
file on a network share. If I place the file on a local drive it loads
fine. Permissions and

Is Samba 2.2.4 stable & error free
Hi, I am planning on upgrading our Samba servers to a more
current version (presently we have 2.0.6)
Just wondering if 2.2.4 is the best version to implement, or if an
earlier version would be more stable, e.g. 2.2.3a
I ask this question because I've seen a few messages on the
mailing lists suggesting errors in 2.2.4, but don't know if these are
real errors or just people with a bad

Samba authenication to Window Active Directory
Has any version of Samba been tested for compatibility with the new Windows Active Directory?
We will be upgrading our NT domain to 2000 and creating Active Directory.
Currently our solaris samba 2.0.7 server is configured to authenicate users from our NT domain controllers. Will we encounter problems with the 2000 upgrade?
Thanks in advance, Cynthia

losing print driver associations on reboot
Hello all, I've got a strange problem with Samba 2.2.4. I'm able to
associate print drivers to printers (raw queue in cups). My clients are
able to see that the drivers belong to the printers, and they download
them, but as soon as the server reboots, I lose my driver associations
and I need to once again specify a driver on the windows end. The Print
server was an upgrade from Samba

Hello,
We're running Samba 2.2.3a-6 on Debian (Woody).
With security level set to "share" we share a local printer and
everything works.
Now I'm trying to impose access restrictions on that printer:

Files Show in Windows but not on the Red Hat server
*I just recently migrated our web server to Red Hat 8.0 running Samba 2.2.7
from FreeBSD 4.2 running Samba 2.2.3a.
In windows, a user copy or moves files to there home directory on the server
running samba. The file seems to copy or move fine (It is visible when
accessing the share from explorer), but if I telnet to the server the file
is not in the user's home directory. I have tailed the

winbindd not working - linux s/390
Hello all,
i'm testing 2.2.4.
it seems winbindd is not working on our system (linux Suse 7.3 s/390)
the config is exactly the same as with 2.2.3a, which worked fine.
from a windows client i can connect to the samba server, and see the shares.
but, once i want to connect to a share, it asks me for a password and won't
accept the correct one. It looks as if winbindd stops working then.

How well does printing support scale in Samba 2.2.x ?
Hi,
I'm working on a printing project consolidating a bunch of NT machines with
a Solaris printing machine. I'm concerned about the scalability if I increase
the number of printers from say 20 too 300. How does it effect the response
time for looking up and changing device setting etc.
Thanks

tdb errors with 2.2.4
Hi All,
I am running a samba 2.2.4 domain controller and since the upgrade from
2.2.3a have been getting the following error messages in the logs.
tdb(/etc/samba/secrets.tdb): tdb_oob len 943289144 beyond eof at 8192
Running Redhat 7.2.
Anyone know how to fix this / root cause of the problem?
I have a domain with 300+ machines so I'm hoping for something
non-destructive.
Regards Anthony.

Winbindd+W2K+NT+Pam+Samba 2.2.3a+Solaris
Hi -
I have been attempting to set up Samba to do authentication against a
Windows 2K Domain Controller as well as NT PDCs. I have installed Winbindd,
Samba, and compiled with PAM and updated my smb.conf, pam.conf file and the
other stuff in the installation guide. The objective of all of this is to
allow an application running on top of Solaris to authenticate the users
logging into the
