Samba 2.2.2 as a PDC for XP logins
And you have user and machine accounts that work?
I had actually a big problem joining a Samba PCD from a Windows XP
machine. However I don't remember what exactly I had to do to make it
work. (I never changed the Samba settings, just fiddled around in
Windows.)

Unable to access Samba shares from Windows XP home ed ition
Thanks Anders, I'll take this as verification that it can be done and
struggle on. Does it require registry tweaks?

Samba and IEE1394
This might not be the correct group to post to, but maybe somone could
tell me wich groupd it should go to (as I haven't found any good
ones).
I have Windows XP machines with IEE1394 (FireWire) LAN. Windows has
built in support for OHCI compliant cards and can use them as a normal
NIC, but with 400Mbit.
This sollution is cheap and alot faster than normal a 100Mbit LAN. The
problem is now

couldn't find service %u on 3.0.14a
Hi,
I have an identical issue, hitting Win2K SP4, ever since upgrading to
Debian Sarge.
Here's an additional observation, and a workaround.
We have roving profiles, and on any user logging in or out, Samba creates a
profile directory called %u. That is, (for example) on logging out, instead
of writing back to a directory called /home/samba_profiles/fred, it creates
a new directory

Samba4 DC is not visible in network neighborhood
Greetings, All!
Is there at last a solution? I've only found questions, in the list, and on
the network.
The issue is that DC built on Samba4 does not report to network browsers
neither it is participating in election to become browser itself.
Consequently, it is not visible in the neighborhood neither on Windows, nor on
Linux.
I've managed to force a second Linux host (member server)

RE: Browsing cont'd
Don't forget to add the #PRE after the host info; that way it preloads it.
Create one lmhosts file for the Win boxes, and copy to either
\windows (win9x)
\winnt\system32\drivers\etc (NT/Win2k/XP)
then open a DOS Prompt and type nbtstat -R to flush/refresh
the cached info.
The samba box's hosts go in /etc, /lmhosts go in /etc/samba
(if you're using the current defaults. Put the

How to connect across the Internet
Hello All,
Well my Samba server is up and running good, but I am now needing to
be able to let some of my users connect to our server who is not
located on our local network.
Actually they are located some distance away and I would like to be
able to allow then to connect.
Has anyone had any success with this and how it might be done?
Best Regards,
Lonnie
