Install wine, dependency problem, newbie woes
Downloaded wine from codeweavers and tried to install with Kpackage.
"Needs libXv.so.1" Tried locating lib* with Google, but Google
comes up with packages with different names. Maybe the lib I need is
part of a larger library. So, where to find what I need, and then what
to do with it (eg. just copy to /lib)??
Thanks in advance for clues,

Wine doesn't work?
Clean install of Slackware 10.2. Wine 0.9.20. Downloaded slackware package.
Installed with KPackage via KDE, no errors. I have several Windows apps that

Wine Windows Emulator, I can see in the process table Wineserver,
wine-preloader, and wineprefixcreator(?). Then they all go away, and nothing

20040616 segmentation fault
Thanks to Ivan for help. I seeked for wine-2004615 but:
1.
The only 2004615 I found is for Mandrake. I am using RedHat 7.3, uname tells
me that I have got Arch. i686
Can I use this Mandrake wine-20040615-mdk.i586.rpm ? It is described as
i386.
I am confused with this i386, i586 and i686. I thought I should only use
what my PC is: i686.
2. I installed the package via KPackage

Another Newbie Question
Hey all,
My apologies if this sounds blindingly obvious, but am I correct in saying
that I can use Asterisk to connect two extensions and make calls between
them without needing an actual telephone line at all ?
As I said, probably blindingly obvious. but my techies have gone home for
the evening and I was looking for an answer before I left.
Thanks,
Callum

samba -i prints some strange stuff
I did a complete installation of Red Hat 7.2 on my Dell Inspiron 5000
laptop from RH6.2. I had SAMBA running on it fine until I wiped my
hard drive and installed RH 7.2. So now I have to learn how to set up
SAMBA with xinetd. I saw a newer version of SAMBA on the SAMBA.org
web site so I downloaded it. After reading the INSTAll file and
following the instructions it created an RPM in:

Help plot
Hello,
I would like plot a vector and want to specify the Xticks which will be
displayed. Is it possible ?
For example, suppose that x is a vector of length 3. I just want the
Xticks (and the corresponding labels)
for 1 2 and 3 to be displayed ( and not 1, 1.5, 2,2.5, ....) .
Thanks

samba 3.5 pdc migration
I currently have a samba 3.6 pdc. I would like to migrate that to a samba 4
dc.
I haven't been able to google out all the 'samba migration' hits that meet
my specific use case. Sorry if there is something blindingly obvious on
this topic.
Is it possible to set up a samba 4 dc, and have it capture the sambe 3.6
pdc info?
Currently, samba uses tdbsam. (no ldap) It runs on an Centos

Simple Date problems with cbind
I am clearly misunderstanding something about dates
and my reading of the help and RSiteSearch have not
turned up anything.
I have a variable of class "Date" and I want to add
include it in a data.frame. However when do a cbind
the date var is coerced into a numeric.
However when I tried to create a example I also seem
to be doing something wrong as I cannot seem even to

configure options for 3.x -still experimental?
Hello. I am trying to set up SAMBA 3.x on FC4. SAMBA will be PDC with no
other server. I work at a K-12 school, so unless I want 20 episodes of
"Family Guy" in a student's folder, I need to set quotas.
I've been looking around for 2 days and I'm stumped.
I found something called smbcquotas, but it seems to apply to a mixed NT
server environment.
I heard rumors of configure

Encoding the wrong Endian and AIFF
I know this is probably blindingly obvious, but
I can't find it anywhere. Is there a way to tell the
Vorbis codec what endian your samples are or do I
have to do my own byte reversal.
AIFF is Be's 'standard' audio file format, and its encoded
big endian, not little endian even on Intel boxes.
I know for decoding ov_read has an endian option,
but I can't see an equaivalent for

Validating a required relationship.
Hello,
I''m not sure if I''m missing something blindingly obvious here.
All the relationships that Rails comes with assume 0..n, yes? It''s
not a strict 1 to 1 or 1 to n because it''s optional. My question is
this -
What is the best way to implement a required relationship?
For example, if I require that a comment is made by a user (a user

Fedora & Samba 3.0.2, unable to execute program from file share
Short story:
I can't directly execute a file from a samba file share by double clicking
on it in Windows file explorer. Instead, I get the "open or save" dialog
that you'd normally see browsing the Internet and clicking on a file.
I can copy files to and from the file share, just not execute them.
Details:
I setup a Fedora Core 1 box to replace an old RH 7.3 box.
The new box
