unexpected.tdb
I have been using samba 2.2.2 for quit awhile running with security= share in my company. I looked into the /var/lock/samba and found a growing file unexpected.tdb. Is there a way to trim it down while samba is running or do I have to start and stop samba? Is this an expected behavior? TIA Joseph Loo

Winbind on Solaris 2.6
It would appear that communication with the PDC is fine - all other commands (-t, -m, -s SID, -n name, etc.) work OK, it's just the group/user enumeration calls that appear to fail. Has anybody got any ideas whatsoever - I think it has to be a problem on the NT PDC side as, according to the debug log at level 10: 000018 samr_io_r_query_dispinfo 0018 total_size : 00000000 001c

addriver
Hi, I am using samba with NT 4.0 and Solaris. I got LPRng working with Samba. But, downloading of drivers from the server still deosn't work. Do I *need* to user rpcclient to install drivers on server ? I have already copied drivers to $print/W32X86 directory. I tried using rpcclient with adddriver command. But it gave following errors. rpcclient $> adddriver "Windows NT x86"

Printing problems from W2k/NT4
Hello, I recently upgraded our file server from RedHat6.2 to RedHat7.2. This upgraded our (working) Samba 2.0.x to 2.2.1a-4. Now, the windows98 machines on the network can print without problems. The 2K/NT4 machines cannot print, but they experience no problems with file sharing operations (writeable /home/$USER). The 2K/NT4 machines had been printing fine prior to the upgrade. I won't

NTFS conversion?
Hello all, I am looking for a way to move a massive amount of data from an NTFS filesystem to an ext3 filesystem in order to move a samba box in to replace a win2K server. If anyone has any ideas or pointers, or links to follow, I would appreciate it. This is the first step, after this I get to figure out how to incorporate this into an EMC SAN. Whoopeee!!!! Time attributes in LDAP SAM
I am updateding my LDAP presentation (ftp://kalamazoolinux.org/pub/pdf/ldapv3.pdf) to include a section on the Samba 2.2.x LDAP backend. But I can't find any definititive documentation on the "time" attributes: pwdLastChange, pwdMustChange. Either how the time is encoded or exactly what they mean. I've seen post saying they are hexidecimal (although they don't look it)

README file for Samba Head
I was just browsing the Samba CVS FTP site, and I noticed that in the Samba directory, where What's New file identfies the source as Alpha 3.0, the Readme File identifies itself as stable 2.0.x.. I just thought y'all might want to update that so as to avoid painful confusion. P.S. If one wanted to dowload sources for Samba 2.0.10 (or newer in 2.0), where would one look?

README.Win32-Viruses and MS Office Administrative Installation Points
The README.Win32-Viruses file distributed with Samba 2.2.2 gives procedures for trying to stop the Nimda virus on Samba shares. It contains mostly good info and it is a good idea to implement this extra level of protection but there is one thing to watch out for. The README says to veto the file "riched20.dll" (along with a few others). This is fine unless you are using your Samba box

Controlling Owners and Groups for Files
I've successfully configured Samba to give the filer permissions that I want, but it is still not giving the required performance with users and groups. The problem is that when a new file is created it defaults the File Group to the default group of the user, not necessarily the groups which has access to the files. Is there any way to get round this? Alex --- Outgoing mail is certified

copying between shares
this seems to be a bug and not a security issue having two shares on a samba server but on different disks it is possible to copy/delete a file from one share to another but not to move (using a win98 workstation). Using the same disk moving is possible. Some time before it was possible and Windows made the copy. Now it seems the samba-server has to copy and doesnt. this is samba 2.2.0.15,

multiple smb daemons
Is it possible to bind multiple smb daemons to different NICs on the same machine ? Here is my dilemma: I had about three print servers with different names on NT. There were on average, 120 print share on each. I would like to try to merge all of those printer share into 1 single machine. Aliases on NT do not seem to work fo r printer shares (file shares work fine). My idea was to replace all

Access lists
I searched tha archives on this and found only an ancient (1998) message... The books I've read say it can't be done (yet). I'd like to set up some shares on Win95 and Win98 boxes with domain level security. To do that normally, an 'Access list' is needed, and that doesn't work (yet). Q1) Has this changed, and if not, how soon is this likely to change? Q2) What do I

Mirror site down?
http://us3.samba.org I get nothing but empty HTML pages when I try to access this particular mirror. Is something wrong with the mirror or is it something on my end? Anyone else who sees blank pages? Other mirrors seem to be working fine. -- Bill Moran Potential Technology http://www.potentialtech.com
