No such file or directory - but it is there.
I have a problem when installing applications from a Samba share. I have been using this share for sometime with no problems, but now after installing 3.0.6 I have an issue. Most applications I have work fine, only three are suspect. OfficeXP, will start the install but it stops with the error, installation source has been corrupted. How do you guys protect Samba shares from Win32 based viruses?
That's pretty much the question. I've got Symantec NAVCE running on my NT server protecting itself, the Windows clients and the Exchange server, but what do i do about my Linux based Samba server? Will a linux based AV app search for Win32 based viruses? Thanks, VeKTeReX

latest samba_2_2 problem
Just tried the latest cvs samba_2_2 (trying to avoid the winbind memory leak thing). It configured, compiled and installed fine, but when it came up there was an issue. When my Windows users (Win98 ad Win2K) went into explorer, they could see no names on the folders in samba shares, just blank folders. I quickly put it back to the older 2.2.2 configuration and everyone is back to normal. Was

Virus problem
Hi all, Last week we were infected with the Nimda virus. Our machines are clear now but I was wondering if there was a way in samba to stop .eml files being created on shares. As this virus spreads through shares on machines samba shares are vulnerable. Any ideas?? P.S. All of our e-mail is virused scanned, so no problem there ------------- Kristyan Osborne IT Technician Longhill High School

Wish list
While the subject is new features, here''s something I''d like to see. I''d like to have a way for shorewall to be able to monitor a log file and take an action when a condition is met. For instance, if Shorewall could monitor /var/log/httpd/access_log for entries which I have defined (and know to be an attack), and then take an action such as blacklisting a host or domain

Using Office2K (Word & Excel) on NTWS 4.0 and samba 3.0.0 on Debian Linux, kernel 2.4.21. 1. Run Excel and create a sheet. Save it to the Samba server. No problem. 2. Close the sheet and open a new one (File->New). 3. Try to save the new sheet over the first one and Excel gives the error: "Cannot save the file. 'H:\test\Book1.xls' is not a valid file name." 4. wineprefixcreate ?
wineprefixcreate does not create a working registry. The system had a working set of .wine .reg files however installs of office2k failed. I then saved .wine and rebuilt it with wineprefixcreate. After this the original applications did not work. Is wineprefixcreate supposed to succeed at this? Thanks - Dan

behavior of xaxt = "n" with POSIXct dates
Prof. Ripley has provided very helpful information regarding X-axis labeling with POSIXct-class dates. Now I've run into another bit of problematic behavior. I'm running R 1.3.0 on Windows NT 4.0. When I create a plot with the optional argument xaxt = "n", and the X axis is generated from dates of class POSIXct, the X axis is plotted. Obviously, I'd like to prevent the X

Red Code, Nimbda et. al
Hello, we are interested to learn how Shorewall can be configured to look into a packet''s payload, say to look for footprints of Red Code or Nimbda (for example). From the site web page features section we understand Shorewall only looks into the packet''s header. Your enlightening answer will be appreciated. Regards Jose.
