winxp + sambs 2.2.3a (as PDC) + printers = no go
Greetings. Here's my scenario: 1) I have a linux box running samba 2.2.3a, configured as a PDC. 2) I have a WinXP laptop that attempts to use the printers that are configured on the samba server. NOTE: XP Laptop is NOT, repeat: NOT, in the domain that the samba box controls. The XP boxs is part of a workgroup instead. 3) XP box can see file shares on samba box fine. Just printers, at the

Hello List, I have been trying to connect from an XP Pro box to the samba (2.2.2 from RPM on RH7.2) machine. I am trying a simple (!) configuration with just a WORKGROUP setup. XP sees the the box running samba (in the My Network Places) but cannot see anything below that. I get "\\BLACK is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource ..." specifying ssh port #?
Perhaps this is a lame question, but... is there a way to pass an SSH port # to rsync? At least one way I can do it is to use a small shell wrapper around ssh and pass the port # thru the environment. Just wondering if there is an easier way that I magically can't find. The reason for this is primarily because I find myself having to copy files between some local host and some remote host

Please note that Windows 9x clients are not true members of a domain for reasons outlined in this article. Therefore the protocol for support Windows 9x style domain logons is completely different from NT4 domain logons and has been officially supported for some time. Did you read this document? Let me know what needs to be updated and i will take care of it. Cheers, jerry

network. I did read somewhere on the web (several years ago) of a guy who managed to boot windows from the net. With the start of Win 98/ME/ etc.etc it's not posible anymore. I currently use PXE to install machine from the net using bpbatch that works great only bpbatch is not really under developnt and the script language is a bit buggy. I see only one option to boot windows from the net and

proper protocol for installing a *really* new package?
what is the proper approach to install on centos 5.4 a package that's newer than the currently supported one? at the moment, AFAICT, the latest "poppler-utils" package for centos is 0.5.4. however, the source is up to version 0.12: http://poppler.freedesktop.org/ which matches the current fedora version, but that's not surprising since, naturally, fedora zips right along

ghost 8.x and newer
Hi all, I love syslinux!! It works great. Problem. GHost 8.x and higher... With ghost 7.5 and earlier I was able to boot floppy images from my tftp server. But as you all know Ghost 8.x and higher had a bloated ghost.exe that does not fit on a single 1.44mb floopy image file. Has any one had any luck in getting ghost 8.x and higher to work with syslinux and memdisk? I have tried to create over

"memdisk + FreeDOS + Ghost" fail to work
Hi, I'd like to create a bootable CD to run Ghost. Before generating the .iso, I tested it on a system with a FAT partition and had syslinux-4.05 installed. However it failed. Here are the steps : 1. copied "memdisk" to the FAT partition. 2. as my copy of Ghost (v11.50 from solution suite v2.5) no longer fits on a single floppy, I created a "large" floppy image of size

smbd/service.c:set_current_service(56) chdir (/var/ghost) failed
Hey Gang, I have a suse 8.1 server that I have compiled samba 3.0.2 from source on. I have it configured to authenticate against our AD. That seems to be working fine. getent passwd produces the results from both passwd and AD. getent group gives me the groups + the AD groups. I was able to assign the permissions to the folder without problems. It picked up the group from AD and assigned it
