Hi all I'm using Samba version 3.0623 on my rhel3 with kernel 2.4.21 I mounted a windows partition with the command "smbmount". Now I have the problem, that I cannot copying files which are larger than 2GB. The cp command starts and everything works fine until the 2GB are reached. smb_request error
Hi, I am running samba 3.0.4 on my fedora box and I have been noticing a message like this showing up in /var/log/messages every hour, on the hour. May 16 10:01:00 box kernel: smb_request: result -104, setting invalid May 16 10:01:00 box kernel: smb_retry: successful, new pid=21347, generation=9 I assume that this message is being caused somehow by a cron job (diskcheck) that is going through

smb_request: result -104, setting invalid
I have a number of RedHat 7.3 computers. Kernel 2.4.18-3. Samba version 2.2.3a, installed from RPM that came on the RedHat CD. All the computers share some directories, but I don't think this is the issue. They also mount some windows shares like this: //host/unc /mnt/host/unc smbfs username=admin, password=pwd, workgrou=support, uid=user, gid=user 0 0 Sometimes on access to these shares

Errors in /var/log/messages and "dmesg"
A friend of mine is running Samba (samba-2.0.3-8) on a couple RedHat Linux 6.0 machines. He is sharing files bilaterally at work with a WinNT machine and at home with a Win9x machine. In both places, he is getting a large number of SMB error messages. I'm not sure whether these are from the smbfs (smbmount) or from the Windoze machines accessing the Linux drives, though I suspect the

Interesting errors...
Greetings, About 2 months ago, we decided to backup our Oracle test servers via samba rather than nfs -- the backups were just taking too long using nfs. No problem mounting the remote file share to the server and the backup took about one-third of the time. Yep, worked good...and still continues to out perform nfs hands down. Problem is - I'm receiving errors on both of the test servers.

Linux 2.2.0 and Samba client not happening for me
Dudes and/or Dudettes: HEEELLLPPP! (such a newbie statement) I can't get my remote SMB mounts to work on my Linux box. duke was happily running Slackware Linux 2.0.36 and Samba 1.9.18p8 . I upgraded to Linux 2.2.0pre9 (2.2.0final), which seemed to require upgrading to Samba 2.0.0 . (I don't remember the exact errors) Now i can't get my NT and '95 disks to stay mounted on

smbmounted shares don't stay mounted
I'm running Linux 2.1.130 on an AXP, with Samba 2.0 beta 2. I have smbfs enabled in the kernel with Win 95 bug fixes enabled but I'm not running smbd. The server containing the share is an HP running Samba 1.9.16p11. I mount the share with smbmount //hpname/share -c 'mount /home/me/mydir' All is well for a while (~1 hour), but then I get kernel: smb_get_length: recv error = 5

About smbfs: smb_get_length error
Hi All: When I use samfs, sometimes I got the following messages, Mr. Google says this is because the windows client use the share, and the connection is "reconnected"! Does it right? How to ward off the error? Is there any potential problem if I ignore it? My actions are smbmount and smbumount some shares. Sometimes some shares are smbumount before they mounted (thus cause a

Smbfs problems after upgrading from Woody to Sarge
I earlier this week upgraded from Debian woody to sarge on a machine that does a nightly backup to another machine via a samba share. Since then I have had some issues with accessing that share with I believe are a result of the upgrade. I upgraded the kernel at the same time to 2.4.27-1-686 #1 via apt-get, which might be the related to the problem. Smbfs is version 3.0.6-3

Samba Problems
I have a couple of problems with Samba that I would appreciate help with: 1. Since installing version 1.9.17p1, error messages such as "ERROR: set_share_mode: failed to ftruncate share mode file /var/smb/locks/share.9175085.1500224 to size 42 (Permission denied)" are appearing in log.smb. 2. When a directory on a UNIX machine contains a file named *, this file appears with the name ~16

Samba 2.2.3a and password expiration?
One of my users complained that his Win2kSP2 complains that his password Is going to expire in 8 days. A while ago we changed from Win2k domain to a Samba 2.2.3a controlled domain. How do I disable the password expiration? I read the man pages and searched Google but couldn't find any hints about the issue. It almos seems like this expiration thing should not be happening at all...?

smbmount intermittent problems
I use smbmount to mount a number of NT shares from around a global network in order to sync from a master distribution which resides in linux. Specifically... uklnxsrv$ smbmount //NTSRV/share -c 'mount /tmp/temporary_mount -u 502 -g 510' -U guest%guest_passwd Frequently it works well, but from time to time the mounted NT share, for lack of a better word gets corrupted. Here are the

smbfs linux 2.4.24; connection loss causes total machine hang
I'm running smbfs on a Debian box with kernel 2.4.24. I would give you more information (such as my samba tools versions) if I could get into the box, but it's hung right now due to this bug. I'm mounting a filesystem from my desktop Windows box (which is right next to it; there's a D-Link in the way, though) and passing large amounts of data to it (backups). If the connection

What's Happening
Found these messages in /var/log/dmesg on a Redhat 7.1 machine running Samba 2.2.2 accessing a Win 2000 share. Actually, there are a bunch of tasks accessing the same share, complete with file locking, etc. Any docs on what that error code means? ...Thanks, ...Kenneth smb_get_length: recv error = 113 smb_trans2_request: result=-113, setting invalid smb_file_write: syndex/csafe.log validation
