win2k domain-less client failing to authenticate when securit y=domain
Hi Jonathan,
Yep, samba sends the domain name as well as the username to the domain
controller, and what I think happens is the NT controller sees that the
domainname passed is NOT his domain, checks his list of trusted domains,
doesn't find it, and says sayonara buddy... I am assuming that 'SATURN' is
the netbios name of the win2k client machine? I'm not real clear on how

getting swat to run on Hewlit Packard HPUX 10.20
I've just downloaded and installed the SAMBA binaries for HPUX 10.20. I'm
been unsuccessful in getting swat to run though. I've made the correct
entries in the /etc/services file (swat 901/tcp) and in the /etc/inetd.conf
file (swat stream tcp nowait.400 root /opt/samba/bin/swat swat) and
have shutdown and restarted the inetd daemon. When I use Netscape and

Help with SWAT
Hello all,
I just installed 3.0.24 in AIX5.3 using installp binaries. The install went
well, and I can connect to shared directories from Windows. When I try to
log in to the SWAT tool, it does not accept the password of any userid that
I try with, including root. I don't recall having to do anything special to
use SWAT on my older servers running SAMBA 2.2.8.
I have added the following

Samba 2.2.2 / Swat doesn't answer
Hello,
I'm using Suse Linux v 7.0 Professional.
I successfuly compiled Samba v 2.2.2 with the command :
./configure \
--with-pam --with-tdbsam --with-winbind \
--with-acl-support --with-smbwrapper
All works except SWAT !
However, I checked if the line "swat 901/tcp" is in the file
/etc/services and it's in order
My file /etc/inetd.conf contains the line :
swat stream tcp

Cannot start SWAT on Solaris 8 server - libiconv.so.2: open failed: No such file or directory
Hi!
I'm having some trouble getting SWAT to run on a Solaris 8 server of mine.
On this server, SWAT is started through inetd:
root_s07nfs:/opt/ > grep swat /etc/inetd.conf
swat stream tcp nowait.400 root /opt/samba-3.0.0/samba/bin/swat swat
When I go to http://server:901/, I see this in the browser window:
ld.so.1: swat: fatal: libiconv.so.2: open failed: No such file or

Cannot start SWAT on Solaris 8 server - libiconv.so.2: open
No one on the planet has seemed to answer this question. After an hour
or so of trying to fix this problem myself, I now have the answer, at
least a temp fix for it.
I just linked /usr/local/lib/libiconf.so.2 /lib/libiconf.so.2 in Solaris
9. Seems to get Swat working again.

FWD: Configuring Swat
Hi Sean,
I had this problem when I upgraded our servers to RedHat 7. In RedHat 7
they changed from running the inetd.d to running xinetd.d. This is the
daemon that figures out what programs to start when a port is accessed.
Port 901 is for swat, this is configured in your /etc/services file. In the
/etc/xinetd.d/ directory you'll find a file called swat. Edit this file so
it looks

winbind can get uid and gid from sfu, but not homedir or loginshell
I have winbind v3.0.26a running on ubuntu server v7.10 (gutsy).
I intend to get user & group info from MsActiveDirectory.
However, when I type:
getent passwd somerandomuser
I get the uid and gid for the user, as recorded in the msad schema by
virtue of sfu, but the homedir and loginshell that are returned are like
what "winbind nss info = template" would return by default:

SWAT conflicts w/ Apache 1.3 HTTP server???
Hello,
I am running a small network, Win., FreeBSD (Unix), & Macs.,
administering through SWAT. Needing to run an intranet I installed an
Apache 1.3 HTTP server running in standalone mode. Now I have lost the
ability to access SWAT through the http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:901 port.
Guess it requires some special configuration of the server - SWAT runs
in inetd mode, will this cause a conflict?

win2k domain-less client failing to authenticate when security=domain
Hello,
I've got a linux box running smbd & nmbd versions 2.0.6 with security = DOMAIN,
and an NT4 box as the password server. The sole domain controlled by that NT4
box is named "MSOE". All is well with win98 clients. However, Win2k clients
that are not part of an NT domain, but simply belong to a "workgroup" named "MSOE",
are unable to authenticate. The

How do you run swat in forground mode?
Is there any way to run swat from the command line instead of starting it
from inetd? I'm trying to add some features (mostly, I want to make a
backup of the smb.conf file before commiting a new one) and I want to run
swat from inside of gdb. Is there a way to start swat in the foreground and
have it listen on port 901?
Thanks in advance,

SWAT, where ? Got it, not working :-(
G'day....
Simple solution...
Uninstall samba/swat packages... Reinstall... test.
swat should work "right out of the box" ...
All the best...

I just instaled samba 2.0.3 on my system (RedHat 5.2) and I want
to configure my smb.conf with swat, but a problem occured:
- I had modified my inetd.conf file (to allow swat running from
inetd) like the documentation says;
- I had modified my services file like the documentation says;

Swat for Samba
Dear ladies and gents
I have installed the Samba Package 2.2.5.0 on a running AIX machine.
I have unpacked the .EXE file and configured the software, too.
The application samba with its daemons is working !
At least there is one bug or I don't know how to run . . . however
There was the configuration tool "swat" installed in directory
/usr/local/sbin
but it isn't running.

swat: connection refused
Hello :)
I have a problem with swat on a ubuntu machine (I installed swat per
apt-get)
When swat is running it doesn't print out anything (I guess that should be
ok though) but after a while it just prints "Alarm Clock" and quits. When I
try to connect to localhost:901 (before it says alarm clock though) firefox
prints out "the connection was refused when attempting to contact

SWAT not working
I'm trying to use SWAT on my Compaq Tru64 UNIX v5.1 machine running
Samba 2.0.7.
I'm prompted for a username/password. I read in the docs to enter root
with root's passwd.
This does not work. I get login failed, retry. I never get authenticated.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

winbind can see some groups but not others
Hello,
I followed the steps at
http://www.enterprisenetworkingplanet.com/netos/article.php/3487081
for adding a v3.0.21a samba and winbindd server to a MsAD domain and
configuring nsswitch.conf to find passwd and group info from winbind.
This seems to have worked out fine, except that I can't 'see' or
'recognize' certain groups via getent or via wbinfo -g.
E.g. I can see the
