Samba 2.2.0
Linux Kernel 2.4.3 GCC 2.95.2 GLIBC 2.1.3 Trying to compile the new 2.2.0 Samba release. Is there a trick to getting "./configure --enable-shared" to work. It says my libtool doesn't support shared libraries ( but it does for all other packages I build ) Is there a recommended GCC and GLIBC version for this release. Also.. docs/textdocs/UNIX_INSTALL.txt seems to be

[homes] share(s)
I got back from school the other day and set up samba to avoid hearing questions from my father about "why can't I see your computer from my network neighborhood" etc etc and he wants to mount my mp3 files.. I also set up the standard homes share, but besides being able to connect to _his_ home directory, he is able to _any_ home directory! This is definitely not the behavior I am

FAST_SHARE_MODES
Hi, How do I enable FAST_SHARE_MODES? In UNIX_INSTALL.html I found (...) See also the FAST_SHARE_MODES option in the Makefile (...) but in my Makefile I didn't found this Flag, even though I read somewhere that this Flag is set as default when compiled for Linux systems. Where and how exactly do I set this Flag? I have a Linux SuSE 8.0 on x86, but when I call 'smbclient -L

I was following the UNIX_INSTALL.txt file and I got blocked and step 4 where I should test my "smb.conf" file with the executable "testparm". After I installed Samba by first doing make, then make install... I took the

No INSTALL file?
Hi all, Is there no INSTALL file that ships with samba? I thought there was one there at one time. Is the install procedure as simple as: ./configure [possible various options] make make install Or is there more to it than that? C Compiler for samba1.9.18p1
Where can I get a freeware C compiler for Solaris 2.4 for x86? And how can I perform a very simple test that the compiler works on my machine, before trying it on the samba Makefile? The date and version number - maybe "cc /help"? - would be a start. Jan j.poloniecki@sghms.ac.uk tel: +44 (0)181 725 2795 a.m. (0)181 672 4122 p.m.

Security/authentication flaw(s) found (PR#7625)
Hi Bob, I am CC:ing this reply to the general Samba list as I think it may be of interest. This is a report that crops up from time to time as a security hole report, and I'd like to explain in general why this is a misunderstanding. New User .. Please Help
I am a new user to Samba (or rather struggling to be a user). Our setup is RS/6000s with AIXs and NT File/Print servers/workstations, Lotus Notes server etc etc.... I currently wanted to try and use samba as our internetworking solution between our AIXs and NTs. I know that samba can do this but not sure how far it can do it ... so, I have decided to do a trial run on one of our test AIX
