Moving Win2k into the Samba system
Hey all, I just was wondering if there are any issues I should be aware of before moving Win2k and XP into my Samba loop? I have read the docs available but have found nothing Win2k or XP specific. Thanks in advance, chuck Chuck's Top 10 Things to Remember and Think about! ======================================================= 10. Please return stewardess to original upright position. 9.

smbclient on MacOS X via PPTP won't mount Win2k share
Hello! Following situation: A linux gateway with pptpd is connected via ethernet to a Win2k box. The Win2k server's netbios and DNS name is "server". Issuing a "smbclient //server/share" from the linux box works. I watched the tcpdump output carefully to see what happens. The linux box ("promogate") immediately sends this session request: 18:30:08.988555

Problems using smbclient with a Win2k server
Hi all, I have a set of files that are shared from a Windows 2000 Server that smbclient can't access but Windows 2000 clients and DAVE clients can. I am using samba 2.2.5. Here's an example from smbclient: [mark@protagonist ~]$ smbclient //medusa/share added interface ip=192.168.0.38 bcast=192.168.0.255 nmask=255.255.255.0 Password: Domain=[STAFF] OS=[Windows 5.0] Server=[Windows 2000

Slow browsing from Win2k and WinXP
Hi, I have Samba 3.0.14a + OpenLDAP 2.2.24 installed on Solaris 8 as a PDC for serving files only (no profiles, no printing). Performance of network browsing is slow in Windows 2000 and XP, taking 10-15 seconds to open and display the contents of a folder. The same browsing activity from a Mac works fine with no unacceptable delays. I'm trying to sell Samba here, but these delays are

smbclient -L misses some shares when using NULL-Sessions
List, while trying to list all shares in my network using smbclient I recognized that some shares are missing. ("hostname" is a Win2K Box). smbclient -L -U "" -N hostname shows no shares (using NULL-Session-Logon as you can see) if I use a windows box to connect to "hostname" using net use \\hostname "" /User:"" I can see all shares of this

smbclient & printing on win2k box with HP Deskjet 560C (Drivers?) SMB 2.2.3a - Kernel 2.4.7, red hat 7.2
Hi LUs, I dont have much time at the moment to read tons of documentation. So, I would like to ask a hopefully easy to answer question. Samba is running alright with me, smbclient works fine, but I would like to print from my Linux box over LAN to a printer (HP 560C) connected to a win2k box. Because I can't afford a better or second printer & I also havent got enough room for it

SV: syslinux tool for Win2k and 'safeboot' option
Hello Luis Thansk Yes we tried that and it works, but if you are in the field and only have new clean compact-flash and no DOS, you are in trouble. I can syslinux directly to the USB card-reader/writer under Linux without problems too. It just appears as a SCSI-device(/dev/sda). best regards ole at danelec.dk * danelec electronics a/s * Blokken 44 * DK-3460 Birkeroed * DENMARK *

smbclient (Samba 2.0.8 SuSE 7.1) read problem from Win2K
Angus, I just found your posting to samba@lists.samba.org when I tried to find a solution for exactly the same problem you had. The problem arose when we migrated our M$ servers to w2k, with NT40 it worked fine. Question: As I found no answer to your question in the samba-list, did you find a easy solution (besides possibly upgrading the smb suite) Regards, Walter Fischer IT Manager FPD

ADS users authentication problem where win2k and pre-win2k names of user differ
Hello, I am new to the list and this is my first posting to the list. I have an ADS running on Win2k3 in Native Mode. I have a user created in ADS. While creating the user I have specified the "Win2K name of user" as testbug and "Pre-Win2k Name of user" is bugtest. Essentially they are not same and do differ. I have a samba 3.0.25d running on Fedora Core 7 which has joined

Win2K Client / Samba 3.0.4 PDC -> Setting Win2K Profile Settings
I'm trying to locate the list of registry values to adjust how Win2K clients handle the user profile with the Win2K boxes joined to a Samba PDC and logging in with domain accounts. Specifically I would like to DISABLE roaming profiles!!! Many moons ago, the WarpServer Win2K client from IBM came with very good documentation on how to adjust that client to not create roaming profiles, etc...

Fwd: Samba as DC in a win2k network
Hi ! Sorry to bother you but as you're pretty close to what I would like to do with samba, maybe you could help me to answer the above questions. As I guess you're both in a hurry, I don't ask you long technical explanations. Just theorical informations to get a good understanding of what I am going to do. Thanks a bundle in advance. No printer status on Win2K client; Win98 and Linux clients are OK
My Win98(SE) Samba clients can query the Samba-exported printer status, but Win2K(SP3) clients cannot. Both clients can actually print documents. I am running Samba v2.2.3a on a Linux (Red Hat v7.3) system. This server makes 2 printers (via a LPR subsystem) and several shared directories available to our Linux, Win98 and Win2K (soon to be WinXP also) clients. From a Win98 client, print

FW: Samba on Win2K
After I made the following changes to get my Win2k machine to be able to mount my Unix disk, now my Win95 machine is not able to mount the Unix disk (using 'map network drive'). It asks me for a password but says the password is invalid, it is the same password that is used on the Win95 and Unix machines... help > -----Original Message----- > From: Barker, Brian W. > Sent:

File corruption when copying from samba to win2k
Hi, I've seen a few messages about this but no answers in the archive... I have a win2k machine & a Redhat7.0 machine running samba2.0.7. I recently had to re-install my win2k machine, so I backed up everything onto the samba machine (approx. 5Gb). When I copied the files back to the win2k machine after the re-install, some of the files turned out to be corrupted. There were no errors

linux+samba as DC in a win2k network
All, For a bunch of good reasons ;), my company thinks of getting rid of our win2k DC and replacing it with a linux RH 7.3 box with samba 2.2.4 or 2.2.5. Before starting working on that, I would like to gather some basic informations. We've got solaris 2.8, linux and win2k clients machines. LDAP: I understand that I need to setup an LDAP server which will replace the win2k Active Directory

Samba in a Win2k domain (repeat)
I asked this question back on Monday and haven't seen any responses. Have I not stated the problem clearly enough? Does it appear as if I have not done my homework? Is nobody actually trying to integrate Samba with Win2k domains? Am I not being patient enough? If you've got a clue about how to get Samba to authenticate a user who happens to have his account in a Win2k domain, please

URGENT: WIN2K INVALID VOLUMENAME
Dear Samba Users I detected a strange behaviour between Win2k Prof. and Samba and I hope somebody can help me fixing it. The Bug: ======= Samba does not correctly return the volume name back to win2k. In the man pages it is written that by default the sharename is returned as volumename. This works fine for Win98 and NT4 but not for Win2k. If I say "label v:" (needless to say that v:
