Account not authorized to log in
I've been running Samba 2.0.3 on my dg/ux box for more than a year, without
any problems. Last week, I upgraded to Win2000 Professional, and ever since
have been getting the dreaded 'Account not authorized to log in from this
station' when I double-click on the machine's icon in 'My Network Places'.
Normally, I've seen this as a password encryption problem - but I get

I'm running rsync 2.5.7 on Data General dg/ux 4.20, and just noticed that
the --delete command is not deleting.

Samba share of a NFS mount
I've got a NFS directory that's shared among my RHEL5 servers that I'd like
to give access to a couple of Win2K servers, also. The easiest way to do so
is to NFS mount the directory on my Samba server, and export the directory
as a Samba share.
It works. Kind of. But it redefines 'slow'.
Copying the file from a normal Samba share takes under 10 seconds on a slow
network:

Unable to browse
I have two problems running Samba on Solaris 2.51, Samba version 1.9.16p11. 1) When browsing the CADCAM group, which is where the Sun group is, the CADCAM name shows up on Explorer, but when I click on the group to browse the contents, the '+' disapears and the group apears to be empty. We can, however, map drives using \\sun01\sharname' directly.
2) When we dial into the network

domain_master_node_status_fail
I'm trying to set up Windows browsing between subnets. I've set up a domain
master/WINS server on the .0 subnet, and local masters on the .42 and .254
subnets, and I'm running into the above error on one - just one - of the
subnets. The strange thing is that I'm running exactly the same version of
RHEL on another subnet - and I'm getting no error.

Occasional 'Permission denied'
I've been running rsync for years, and it's working great - offsite backups,
backups to a SAN, etc. It's a lifesaver.
Occasionally, I'm getting a very few files that give me something like the
following:
opendir(etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults/schemas/apps/panel/default_profiles):
Permission denied

getting started
Hello all,
Excuse the very newbie questions, and yes I am reading or have read the
man and or help files, however am still having trouble.
I have two red hat boxes ( a 7.3 and a 9.0 ) with which I am
experimenting.
The 7.3 works a treat ( well at least I can see it on windoze machine on
the same network) but the same cannot be said for the 9.0 box.
Differences ( none ) I have copied the

rsync not deleting files
This seems to be a common topic. I really _have_ looked at the archives before
posting, though, and can't find anything that covers this.
I'm backing up an entire server over the net, except for a few excluded files:
echo `date` >/var/log/rsync.tolstoy
/usr/bin/rsync -avHz --stats --delete --numeric-ids --exclude=/sys
--exclude=/home/backup --exclude=/monthly /

browsing problems with 2.0.0
I just upgraded our Sun OS 4.1.3 servers to samba 2.0.0 from the last 1.19
release, but the switch has changed how browsing works with NT 4.0 SP 3.
1. After double-clicking on Network Neighborhood there's now a
considerable delay before anything appears -- before it was virtually
immediate.
2. The computers in the workgroup no longer appear; I now get only
"Entire Network", and

superimposing histograms con't [Broadcast]
I wrote some code to do this. It only works with 2 groups (that's all I
needed), but could probably be generalized. It got my graph made, and I
haven't needed a graph like this one again, so I never went back to really
clean it up.
It works by first plotting both sets of rectangles, then going back over the
ones that had the first bar totally covered by the second.
Hope this helps,

superimposing histograms con't
Earlier, I posted the following question:
I want to superimpose histograms from three populations onto the same graph,
changing the shading of the bars for each population. After consulting the
help files and the archives I cannot find out how to do this (seemly)
simple graph. To be clear, I want
- a single x axis (from -3 to 18)
- three groups of bars forming the histograms of each population

SUMMARY: Bad Password
I got the answer. I set up swat and found that security was set to user.
When I set it to share things work like they did in 1.9.18p10. The
manpages say that security = share is the default but I don't think so.
Original question:
This is the first problem I have had with samba, that I can't find the
answer to, since I first started to work with samba. I am running DecUNIX

smbclient on DigitalUnix
G'Day everyone,
We are new to SAMBA and are having problems with initial configuration of SAMBA Version 1.9.18 on DigitalUnix 4.0B on a Digital AlphaServer 4100.
If anyone can help us, we would be greatly appreciative.
The installation and compilation all went OK.
Following the points in DIAGNOSIS.TXT.
Steps 1 to 6 all go OK.
