%o passwd chat parameter - Samba-3.0.0beta3 - bug?
The %o passwd chat parameter (current password) doesn't seem to be working in this release. I'm running a Redhat 9 system that seems to require it. Changing the %o to the current password allows everything to work so I'm pretty sure it is something related to that parameter. Is this a bug or am I just reading the log wrong? from smb.conf: unix password sync = Yes passwd program

Unix password sync: Any hints?
Hi! I know this is about the most asked question on these lists. I've been searching the archives looking for an answer, but all I can find is the same question over and over... I'm trying to get the Unix Password Sync option to work on my server. I'm running RH 6.0, with MD5 and shadowed passwords enabled, and Samba 2.0.5a (the RPM version). When I try to change passwords using

FreeBSD: Changing UNIX password - Password Chat?
I can't get my Samba PDC (FreeBSD 7,0-BETA3) changing UNIX passwords from Windows clients (Ctrl-Alt-Del). I now have the password chat debug active and I have loglevel 100. I am not certain about the syntax in the password chat. But if I from a console try to change the password of a given user (here testuser1), I see these lines: mflserver3# /usr/bin/passwd testuser1 Changing local password

Password Chat/Sync problems with 3.0.23
Hi, Following an upgrade to 3.0.23, it appears that my UNIX password sync/chat is no longer working (although I can't confirm it wasn't broken in 3.0.21, it was working before). The XP clients throw up a "no permission to change password" error when the users attempt to renew passwords. I've carefully checked my password chat script and it appears to be OK. The logs

passwd not running as root
Hi all, I posted a message about this problem a couple of weeks ago without a response so I'm trying again. My problem is that samba does not seem to be running passwd as root when it tries to sync the passwords. For example, when I run smbpasswd as a user logged onto the samba box I get the following error: machine 127.0.0.1 rejected the password change: Error was : RAP86: The specified

Hi list, I have set up two Samba PDC networks for work with win XP clients. Each network is small, about 15 clients and three printers. Each uses a different distro (don't ask)--one is mandriva 2006 the other is debian sarge. Both have all updates. Both have working wins and dns on Linux. Mostly things work well, but I am unable to change passwords from the XP clients. The client will

password chat program timeout
Hi, after some investigation, I found out why my users always get an error back when they try to change their passwords on win2k. unix password sync option is enabled and passwords are synchronised via passwd chat. All acounts are stored in ldap. With the value of 2000 ms in smbd/chgpasswd.c(function expect) I always got timeout messages in the logs. The reason for the timeout seems to be the
