Samba performance problem over a radio link.
Hi all.
We have a performance problem over a 2 Mbits radio link.
The configuration is as follows: we have a RH Linux 6.1 (double PIII
processor, 100 mbit ethernet, raid 5), acting as a server for a network
of Windows 95, 98 and NT. On the local network I can achieve up to 40
mbits transferring large files from the server to a windows 98 machine.
This network is connected through a 2 mbits radio

Troubles with Farpoint Spread controls
Hi all.
The environment we are working on is a Red Hat Linux 6.2, with XFree 4.0
and KDE 2.1.
The wine has been compiled using egcs-1.1.2. Wine itself is latest

The application we're trying to run crashes when tries to display a
dialog box using Spread controls (from Farpoint). The crash occurs
during a WM_PAINT.
By exploring the builind of the window, the control

Printing via smbprint to a WinPrinter
Hi all.
I would like to print from a Linux Server to a printer connected to a Windows ME machine. I'm able to connect via smbclient, with
smbclient //windowsme/printer -U '' -N
and I receive the smb> prompt
Now, when I try to print any file, nothing comes out from the printer. The printer is a Canon LBP-810 which, according to
www.linuxprinting.org site, is a WinPrinter. My

wine is unable to find file.exe.so
Hi all.
First of all, a little background:
Wine release 20010418
gcc version egcs-2.91.66 19990314/Linux (egcs-1.1.2 release)
glibc-2.1.3-21
I'm trying to use our home banking software. The software is composed from
many different .exe files. When I try to start the menu, wine complains it
is unable to load a .exe.so file (i.e., wine is trying to load some of the

oplock_break: MS kb articles
I found these articles that talk about the oplock_break problem (specifically
they are related to problems with word97):
http://support.microsoft.com/support/ntserver/serviceware/nts40/e9msge2bc.asp
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q163/5/25.asp
Basically they say:
either apply sp3 on the winnt client or disable oplock on nt server
But they don't say anything about win9x,

win98 vs win95 with TCP/IP

The software we need runs in win9x.
We crave stability. But Linux+Samba is just much slower as a file
server.
It's normally quite fast: are you running over a
dial-up network, requiring you to adust MTU's for
speed???
If not, try ``socket

A bug in WIN_SetWindowLong ?
Hi all.
While debugging some program, I discovered what looks like a bug. Please
be patient if I'm wrong.
In the WIN_SetWindowLong function, in order to get the address of
wExtra, there is:
ptr = (LONG *)(((char *)wndPtr->wExtra) + offset);
but this takes the *CONTENT* of wndPtr->wExtra.
The correct code should be
ptr = (LONG *)(((char

Dear List,
Few days ago I've posted, that my Win9x boxes are unable to get the list
of domain users and groups from samba-3.0.0 server (for details see bug
596). Unfortunately the same is true for samba-3.0.1pre1.
Please people also having win9x boxes and Samba3 PDC confirm that it is
a bug, or a configuration error.
Thanks for any suggestion.

Login scripts and Win9x clients
Hi all,
I have two systems using Win98 and one using Win95. These three systems do
not automatically execute their login scripts. I can map the network drives
manually and tell them to reconnect at login, but I am wondering why they
don't execute them. I can log in, browse to my netlogon share (if I make it
browseable), and execute the script manually, and it works. Well, it mostly

Major network slowdown today... Samba the cause?
Today, our network has been excruciatingly slow. I checked the log.nmb
file, and I noticed that today, the Samba PDC has been losing its "local
master browser" status every 2 minutes or so, for about 15 seconds, to a
Win9x client.
Before today, this also happened, but only a few times each day.
Network configuration:
1. All clients are Win9x.
2. Server is SuSE 6.1, with Samba 2.0.5.
