Possible problem with SAMBA 2.0.6 distribution for HP?
Hello,
I downloaded 2.0.6 and compiled under HP-UX 10.20, gcc 2.8.3 and
everything funtioned properly, except for smbrun, which didn't link.
I started looking around for it in the binary distributions available
(2.0.3 and 2.0.4a) and found it was also missing here. Lastly, I
sarted asking other hp sysadmins if they could send me theirs, turns
out NOBODY has it, even after compiling with

Speex on Delphi
Hi,
I hope it is ok to send questions to this list as a mere user of speex, but
I couldn't find any reference to newsgroups or any reference to Delphi in
past threads of this list.
I would love to use speex in a Delphi application, but the plugin example
provided in the speex website is missing a speex DLL and a speex Delphi
unit.
Does anyone know where I can find them, or how to contact

Speex, what container?
But is there any sound player for windows that plays speex in an ogg container?
One more question, besides the source code found in the speex site (like speexenc.c) can you tell me where to find source code developed in C++ (using object oriented programing) that makes it easier to write ogg files with speex content?

speexenc and speexdec
When I use speexenc appplication to encode a wav file and then speexdec to decode it the decoded wav is bigger than the original, why this happens?
Thanks.

Speex mode
Using speexenc applicantion (provided in the Speex site) when I try to encode a wav file less than 12,5KHZ in wideband mode it warns that I should do it in narrowband but the time it takes to encode and the final encoded file size are bigger if I use narrowband. The sound quality after decoding seems to be the same. What is the advantage of using narrowband?
Thanks.

new theora list
A new mailing list has been created -- theora-codecs@xiph.org. This list should be where we discuss issues pertaining to Qucktime and Windows codec implementations, including legacy VP3 codecs for those platforms.
We've done this to keep the discussions discrete and focused. There is a pressing need to maintain the existing VP3 codecs until we get Theora up and running. Anyone who is

AW: PlusV algorithm -> CBR
fwiw, there are definitely applications that would use Vorbis but can't until there is a _strict_ CBR mode. Meaning, architecturally the datarate simply cannot exceed X no matter what happens to the quality. Send silence if you have to, but limit the datarate.

good question. I would think beta means the bitstream is more or less stable. Monty?

when the codec will be frozen as far as backwards compatability..

theora bitstream spec
question for the crowd:
In writing the bitstream spec, I need to decide how to name various fields. I can go with names equivalent or very similar to the existing C code, or I can go with a similar set of labels that are more intuitive. Many of the C variables are named in cryptic or confusing ways.
Presently, I'm changing the names to be more descriptive whenever it seems to make sense,

On demand relay from shoutcast ....
Hello .,
maybe this could be again a stupid question...
But I've tried over serval weeks to get a on demand relay stream from A
southcast server.
I have defined a mountpoint via an alias directive at the icecast.conf file.
At the logfile a would recognize the two lines..
-->On demand realy for [.] -> [.] failed, damn!
-->Kicking unknown 0 [.] [No encoder], connected for xx

Performance question
Hi all,
I'm looking for sizing information for the 1.3.11 Icecast server. I have
the following system:
FreeBSD 4.3
Pentium II 400 MHz
128 MB memory
100 Mb Ethernet connection (FD)
I am looking for an estimate to the number of clients I can have running
against this server. It looks to be configured for MAX_CLIENTS = 800, but
I'm looking for some sizing and performance estimates based

Video and icecast
I have a simple question:
Is there a source streamer ala shout that works with icecast 1.3 but streams
video instead of mp3 audio? For that matter, does icecast even support this
type of data (video instead of audio)?
<p>Thanks,

Re: Ogg questions
At this point, my understanding is as follows. Monty has the final word but I believe this is his intention:
* Theora is a video codec. It is a modification of VP3. Presently it is assumed that Theora will be a superset of VP3; ie, VP3 streams can, with a little header magic, be losslessly transcoded into Theora streams. However, we expect future versions of Theora to diverge significantly

this implements a bitstream change; the header now contains a compressed huffman tree rather than the frequency counts (as discussed)
pardon my inability to use diff correctly. The change in toplevel.c is trivial (new function names & params)
huffman.c is the important one. I

Large Files Support
I'm having problems with large files access from a Linux system to a Windows
2000 share. The Linux system is Redhat 7.2 with kernel 2.4.7-10zm, smbd is
2.2.1a.
I have verified that this release of Linux does support files larger than
2GB. I have created a file 2,752,512,000 bytes in size and can copy, mv,
etc., it locally with no problem. If I try to copy it to the windows share
it errors
