rpmbuild dwz error
CentOS,
I'm not sure where to ask this, please let me know if there is a more
appropriate place.
On CentOS 7, I'm building a large C++ package with rpmbuild. Arachne
(https://www.broadinstitute.org/crd/wiki/index.php/Arachne_Main_Page).
During the debuginfo extraction stage, I get the following error:
+ /usr/lib/rpm/find-debuginfo.sh --strict-build-id -m --run-dwz

Disconnecting: protocol error: rcvd type 98
When I SSH using protocol 1 from a Debian box running OpenSSH 2.9p2-4
to a sparc.sunos5 box running vanilla OpenSSH 2.9.1, after a little
while (of inactivity?) I get the following message on the client
terminal:
Disconnecting: protocol error: rcvd type 98
Looking further, this message is actually caused by the SSH daemon.
However, I'm at a loss to determine why sshd is doing this.

problem with samba 3.0.28/Solaris 8/smbclient
Dear Samba users,
I am trying to update our local samba packages to 3.0.28.
They are built against heimdal-1.0.1 and openldap-2.3.38.
The Redhat Enterprise Linux 3 and 4 packages are working
fine so far in my limited testing. The problem with heimdal
and "net ads join..." has been fixed on all 3 platforms.
On the Solaris 8 server, the "net ads join..." works
correctly and the

ext3+raid 1: Assertion failure in journal_commit_transaction()
We're getting the below errors about once a day on a system we're trying to
set up with RedHat 7.3. This has happened to multiple filesystems on
multiple physical and logical disks (basically we've got 4 drives as 2 sets
of RAID 1 arrays, details below).
Until a week ago, this box was a high-volume IMAP server running RedHat 6.2
with uptimes in the 200-day range, so I don't

More info on: Solaris 9 + quota = configure script error?
See the mail below, I sent yesterday.
When changing the text '*solaris*' in the configure script to
'solaris*', the configure and make is going just fine. In other
words: the file include/config.h contains a define for SUNOS5
I don't wanna be a smart-ass, but looking at other packages which
use the configure script style configuration, they mostly use 'solaris*'

Browsing from NT 4.0
Hi James,
One of the things that NT does different from WIN9x is that it attempts
to 'browse' using a null session. This typically means that SAMBA is
going to try to make the attachement for the 'null' username as SAMBA's
guest account (by default 'nobody').
On a lot of HP systems the 'nobody' /etc/passwd entry is set as
uid -2 and gid -2. These uid/gid

custom loss function + nonlinear models
Hi all;
I'm trying to fit a reparameterization of the
assymptotic regression model as that shown in
Ratkowsky (1990) page 96.
Y~y1+(((y2-y1)*(1-((y2-y3)/(y3-y1))^(2*(X-x1)/(x2-x1))))/(1-((y2-y3)/(y3-y1))^2))
where y1,y2,y3 are expected-values for X=x1, X=x2, and
X=average(x1,x2), respectively.
I tried first with Statistica v7 by LS and
Gauss-Newton algorithm without success (no

Once more, with diffs... (configure.in aclocal.m4 patch against CVS)
The attached unified diff fixes configure so that all --with-libfoo options
are allowed to be --with-libfoo=PATH. If the option is specified with a
PATH, only that PATH is searched for the library. If it is specified as
=yes or with no argument, it tries without modifying anything, and then
tries looking in /usr/local. The SunOS5 targets no longer add /usr/local to
include or library paths

libsmbclient in Mac OS X / Darwin
Dear folks:
First of all, thanks for a great product and please do keep up your fine
job with samba.
As a humble contribution to your project, below is a patch to configure.in
that allows libsmbclient.so to be correctly built in my system (Mac with
Mac OS X). I hope this to be useful.
I also noted that the generated Makefile, did not correctly install the
library as the 'install'

Usage figures
When the students arrive in a few weeks, we will have several thousand
registered samba users and (we anticipate) several hundred simultaneous
Samba connections. (This will be our first period of significant Samba
use.)
Our management folks are asking about collecting periodic Samba usage
figures. This is a bit vague, but something like a rolling count of
simultaneous connections, per-user

Connection hangs...
In problem-fixing, the "nicest" problems are those reproducible on demand.
Alas, this one is not nice.
System: Samba 2.0.6 on Solaris 2.7 (also see similar on Solaris 2.6).
Symptom (user perspective): PC suddenly, spontaneously freezes and
eventually the connection times out.
Symptom (log file):

utmp and finger
Hi,
I'm trying to set up samba 2.0.7 on our Solaris 2.7 box to
do some utmp logging. Alls fine except is screws up finger:

[36] ucacast@lambda:
Any work arounds? can I just logg to wtmp, so that finger
works and I can do a last? I've tried playing around, but

What user on what computer?
Hallo!
I found a quite usefull hint about email-notification using samba by simply writing a Mailslot-message-command into the users .forward-file.
That is quite nice, but there is a small problem: While the username is still the same, so does not the computername.
People can log on every computer in a network, so the computername varies.
I am looking for a method to run a script - on the server

Access to cran.us.r-project.org
I am the maintainer of one of the CRAN mirrors in the U.S.,
cran.us.r-project.org. It appears that this site has been
inaccessible since Friday.
This has me puzzled because I can connect to the same machine through
ssh and I can see that the http daemon (apache) is running. In fact I
can make an http connection from this machine to this machine and from
other machines on any of our subnets to
