Browsing Win98 shares from NT on a Samba-controlled domain
I am running a small network consisting of a few Win98 machines, 2 NT (SP6) machines and a Samba 2.0.6 PDC. I am using domain logons, and everything is working fine. However, when I try to list the shares on a Win98 box fron an NT machine, having logged on with a domain-authenticated account, the Win98 boxes return an "Access Denied" error. If I do the same with a local account on the

printing - Win95 & Win98 not working - NT,2000, XP are ok.
Hi folks - I am having printing problems with our older machines. Printing is working okay for our Windows NT, 2000 and XP clients. However, with windows 95 & 98, the print job gets put into the Samba spool directory (path = /var/spool/lp/tmp/samba) but doesn't make it to the printer. The print files stay there in the directory - don't get removed. Samba version is 2.2.7a, on

SAMBA rejecting passwords from Win98 clients - the fix
There have been several postings about this phenomenon and we too fell into it when we introduced Win98 clients onto the network. Somewhere on the web I found the answer: By default Win98 sends passwords to a server encrypted, and by default SAMBA compiles with encrypted passwords switched off. Therefore the password one types in from a Win98 client is received by SAMBA in an encrypted form.

passwords win98
If samba isn't authenticating win98 clients, esp. if you get a password request for IPC$, try editing the win98 registry. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\VNETSup and add a new DWORD entry. Name it EnablePlainTextPassword and set it to 1. The capitalization of VNETSup may be different but the rest is exactly as I found it on my system. After a reboot of the

TR: File system error (1026) - Win98 FR&EN and extended character s
This issue might interest you, because it solves filenaming incompatibilities between Windows (in different languages), and Samba. In fact, the problem is in Windows, and not in Samba (surprising, isn't it ? ;-) By the way, thanks to you for your documentation, which helped me a lot resolving this issue. Logging in from Win98
Hi. Have FreeBSD and Samba 2.05a with lots of Win95 rev 2 clients. With the EnablePlainTextPassword=1 registry setting on the Win95 boxes I my students have been logging in fine. We now have a few Win98 boxes I'd like to connect, but I can't log in - I get refused at the IPC$ share. I can log in if I use rhosts, however I don't want to do this for security reasons. The key is

Possible Bug?? (was: Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT,2000, XP are ok)
Please lend me some expertise... Ok, I know suggesting a bug is a bit impolite, but I cannot find a solution for this and none of the helpful people who have responded have been able to help either... If I come off sounding a bit short it's just because I've tried many things to get these older clients printing. :-) Don't mean to annoy anyone. Appreciate any help! Have several

Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT,2000, XP are ok (reposted)
Sorry to have to repost this (didn't get any response on the first post), we really need some of the fixes of the new Samba but cannot go ahead without the support for the older machines. Need to prove that Samba is the great product that I believe it is. Hi folks - I am having printing problems with our older machines. Printing is working fine for our Windows NT, 2000 and XP clients.

Win98 domain logons unreliable
I've got Samba 2.0.6 set up for domain logons, and they kinda work. However, about 2 out of 3 times it doesn't work on the first try. Almost always, my log on succeeds if I continue trying, usually 2-5 more times. The workstation is Windows 98. I can't roll this out to my clients until I can get this to work every time, on the first try. I've looked through the list archives, and

Possible Bug?? (was: Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT ,2000, XP are ok)
Thanks for the suggestion Andrew, I was hopeful, but removing the writeable made no difference. Still prints from NT, 2000, XP but not from Win95, 98. Any other ideas? -peter. logon home with ldap under win98
Hello, I hope this is the correct place for this mail... I have found that samba-2.2.3a (--with-ldapsam) gives the correct logon home for win2k, but not for win98. Obviously the two systems request the information in a different way. For win98 machines, in lanman.c, the information is taken only from smb.conf, and not from ldap (or other backends). I have attached a small patch that yields

Win98 logon problems with samba 1.9.18p10
Hi there! I have been using samba 1.9.15p* on Irix 6.5, and it did what I need it to over win95 machines, but now I have a new win98 station, and when I try to reach a home directory over smb server, I got the next response: Note: my win98 station is MERLIN, the smb server runs on KEPLER, and I upgraded samba to 1.9.18p10 05/03/99 16:41:52 changed root to / priming nmbd sending a packet of len

Win98 logon error
I have been researching and researching this but with no luck. Whenever I try to logon onto a Samba 2.2.7 PDC from Win98, I get an error to the effect: The share name was not found. Be sure you typed it correctly. I wish to note that my W2K clients log on no problem. Various articles I've seen on this touch upon the following issues: 1) encrypted passwords. I have encrypted passwords

Samba / NT / Win98 and Browsing
Hey all, Our scenario is hopefully quite simple. A client has a MS Small Business Server and about 6-8 Win98 clients. There are also two SCO v5 boxes, which are running samba 2.0.3 (the precompiled version). From the NT box, we can see the SCO servers, but from the Win98 boxes, the SCO servers are not visible. Samba is configured to register its name with the NT WINS server, and I'd

samba 3 domain and win10 logon scripts
Am 14.04.2016 um 11:33 schrieb lejeczek: > I'm guessing I'm missing some specifics needed for win10 - what are > those I wonder. Is your Samba a NT4-style PDC? You are using Samba 3, I'm using Samba 4. Anyway: In my experiments I also had to set an additional regpatch for Win10 and a Samba 4.3.x NT4-style domain for logon scripts - otherwise the logon scripts are not
