samba-2.0.7pre2 and file timestamps
I just installed 2.0.7pre2 on a test system. The file "touch" problem from 2.0.6 seems to be back. Running various utilities called "touch" do not successfully update file timestamps on a filesystem provided by 2.0.7pre2. I actually prefer THIS incorrect behavior over the behavior I've seen after this bug is "fixed". The bugfix posted by Paul Eggert for 2.0.6

Errors in /var/log/messages and "dmesg"
A friend of mine is running Samba (samba-2.0.3-8) on a couple RedHat Linux 6.0 machines. He is sharing files bilaterally at work with a WinNT machine and at home with a Win9x machine. In both places, he is getting a large number of SMB error messages. I'm not sure whether these are from the smbfs (smbmount) or from the Windoze machines accessing the Linux drives, though I suspect the

smbclient -p <port> worked in samba 1.19.18p10, not in samba 2.x
It appears that "smbclient -p <portnumber>" doesn't work as advertised in Samba 2.x? On both Linux 6.2 and Solaris 2.6, independent of firewalls and the like, it works with old Samba (e.g. 1.9.18p10) , but not with new Samba (e.g. 2.0.7). The new version seems to *IGNORE* the port specification and attempt to connect to port 139. Here's the result when I try to send a

"smbclient -p <port>" appears to be broken in Samba 2.x
I posted this problem as a question to this list a while ago and got no reply. I submitted it as a bug, but found that "samba-bugs@samba.org", no longer accepts bug reports, even though the web page says to send them to that address. Wondering if the option had been intentionally discontinuted without updating the man page, I made a quick check of the source and found that the "-p

R-alpha: jpn() port
I've just completing porting the S jpn package to R (available in CRAN's source/contrib). Some remarks: * It seems that S allows recycling when subscripting with logicals, but R does not. E.g., R> x <- 1:5 R> x [1] 1 2 3 4 5 R> i <- c(F, T) R> x[i] Error: invalid subscript type R> In S, this is treated as x[rep(i, length = length(x))]. * It also seems that S does

Samba 2.0.6, MKS' touch.exe, and file/dir time stamps
Hello all, we are experiencing problems with samba 2.0.6 and the MKS touch command. during our builds, we touch files and directories so that our make dependencies work correctly. Unfortunately, it seems that MKS' touch.exe doesn't actually change the time stamp of a file or directory. The command returns without an error, but the timestamp does not change. The same problem exists

MS Excel/NT/Samba timestamp - serious problem, bug?
A rather distressing timestamp issue (to multiple users here). Anyone seen similar behavior or have a suggestion/solution? Problem: Opening and closing an excel file (no changes/keystrokes to file) on the Samba server causes the file to be saved with time stamp of closing. (There is no autosave set on Excel - also see other info below) MS Excel 97 SR-2 NT 4.0 SP5 Solaris 2.6 or 2.7 (2

Strange behaviour regarding timestamps when copying files
Hi all, we observed a strange effect when copying an file within a samba share: Both atime an mtime of the target file are set to the mtime of the original file. The atime of the original file is updated to the current time. 1. Status of the original file: # stat test.txt File: `test.txt' Size: 3 Blocks: 8 IO Block: 4096 regular file Device: 811h/2065d

Copyrights on CRAN/src/contrib libraries
Sorry to bring up this old topic again but ... The 2.0 release of Debian Linux is about to happen and the release team requires copyright statements on any code included in the release. Presently there are 4 packages that I have created from R source code and libraries and contributed to the release. I think this will help with the visibility of R when there is a well-regarded release of an

openssh-2.9.9p2 session.c uses two undeclared void functions
I found this problem on 32-bit Solaris 8 sparc. session.c uses two void functions without declaring them first; this violates the C standard, which requires declarations for such functions. Here's a patch. 2001-09-28 Paul Eggert <eggert at twinsun.com> * session.c (do_pre_login, record_utmp_only): Add missing declarations.
