Problem with nmbd??
I recently installed Samba-2.0.6 on my machine. I copied the smb.conf over from another, working machine that I just got rid of. Anyway, I can't seem to get things working. Here are some files: when I 'restart' nmb in SWAT ---(log.nmb): Netbios nameserver version 2.0.6 started. [2000/02/02 13:33:19, 1] nmbd/nmbd.c:main(747) Netbios nameserver version 2.0.6 started. Looking up NetBIOS names
Is it possible to ask a machine for its NetBIOS name if it's running either Windows or Samba? I tried a few various nmblookup and smbclient command lines to no avail. I would like to be able to query a machine (by IP) and have it respond with its nb name. I've noted that if I perform an smbclient -L -I on a machine, it will not list its shares unless I get the NetBIOS name correct...

Erronous disk full message
Hello, I have discovered a slight problem with MS-Project4 on a WinDD server, where users are not able to update the *.MPP file. WinDD is Citrix Metaframe on Windows NT 3.51. We have all data files stored on a UNIX box, using samba-2.05a, so all *.MPP files are stored there, with the proper UNIX user's userid and permissions. The problem is that userB can not update and save changes in a

2.0.6/Sol. 251/NTW4 - Drive mapping anomaly
Has anyone seen the following anomaly? When I first connect to the Samba server, I run a logon script that maps 5 shares to drives F,G,H,L,M. Some time later, when I check "My Computer", I find that the share mapped to H: has been mapped to all the remaining drive letters as well! For example, after I mount /users on G: and /programs on H:, I'll notice at some point later that I

Samba Encryption...
I have run across a situation I can't find documented. Has anyone seen this one? I have installed samba-2.0.6 twice, once on linux (no problems) and once on Solaris 2.5.1. The Solaris make and install go without problem. I have read and followed all the steps in the Encryption.txt. The smbpasswd file has been created from /etc/passwd using mksmbpasswd.sh. When I attempt to assign the

Internal error: Signal 11
Hi, I have a problem with Samba from last week. Our SMB server( Debian Linux 2.2.12, samba 2.0.5a) was working very well since october 99. We didn't do any changes with our SMB server sw or hw configuration. There is my problem: content of samba log file: [2000/01/25 05:52:52, 1] smbd/service.c:make_connection(521) PC1 (10.0.0.42) connect to service database$ as user USER1

Capturing the position of a draggable element
I would like to capture the position of a draggable element after it''s being dragged, but I am running into problem using several options, such as "change", "revert" and "onEnd". My callback handler would only fire when the page loads, and not when the element is dragged. How can I make this happen? <html> <head> <script

why is my "nmbd" confused about network interfaces?
The only thing related to 'addresses' in my /etc/samba/smb.conf file is a "hosts allow": hosts allow = 192.168.3.0/24 127.1 I'm going to ignore the 'local hosts case, as if I solve the other, the localhost case may get solved by inference. I thought the 'hosts allow' would allow any host on the local 192.168.3.0/24 subnet. The hosts have no problems

dos floppy client for samba wanted
I need to be able to access my Samba network from a DOS floppy. Obviously it must be a tcp/ip client rather than netbeui. Any pointers on doing this? Not *too* cryptic as I'm not expert at this sort of thing. I'm pretty sure I saw some material on the Samba site, but now I cannot find it. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Lindsay Allen

Equivalents of Novell ROS and RWS ?
I am setting up my first production Samba/Linux server and so far I have not found equivalent settings for Novell's ROS and RWS flags. I guess it's some combination of: share modes ( "NEVER" to be turned off) ole locking ( safe for Linux?) blocking locks fake oplocks ( should be off? ) locking ( "should never need to set

Shorewall problem, perhaps with PPPoE
I have what strikes me as an odd problem with shorewall. Let me describe my setup. My desktop (alfred) is connected to the network through an ADSL modem. I am running rp-pppoe, and this works perfectly. I have a small home network, with two LANs; an Ethernet LAN (including a machine running Windows XP), and a WiFi LAN, including the laptop (william) I am using now. All the computers except for
