Todays R-1.7.0-beta (see below) compiles fine on, but it doesn't pass make check-all on WinNT4.0, SP6. Samba PDC reliability?
Hello all, I'm using Samba 2.2.5 compiled on Solaris 8 for my PDC, I've included my smb.conf below. My client machines are all winnt4.0 service pack 6, but I can't get them to log in to the PDC reliably. Very rarely will they log in properly, I usually get the "Domain controller could not be contacted" error message. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks! Beau

Hi, I'm trying to mount with smbmount a WinNT4.0 share resource from a Linux running Samba 2.2.2.=20 WinNT box is installed with code page=3D850. The resource name includes grave accented characters, in particular: =E0. machine account with w2k
Dear Samba Friends, I've a problem to join with Windows2000-Clients a Samba-PDC. When I join the samba-pdc with a WinNT4.0-Client it is no problem, first I create a machine-account for the machine: 1. in /etc/group exists the group: machines:x:515: 2. useradd -g machines -d /dev/null -c nickname -s /bin/false neuch205$ 3. pdbedit -a -m -u neuch205 In this way, it isn't a problem to join

Can a router be a local master browser in a NT domain?
Can a router between two subnets (call it A and B) be the local master browser of the one subnet (net A) in a NT domain, when the Domain Master Browser (as well as PDC and BDC) are located in the other subnet (B)? Will say, does the Domain Master Browser of a NT domain accept a Local Master Browser in the same subnet (as the router is accessed from B via the interface ethB)? The reason for my

Amanda 2.3.0.5-Samba 1.9.16p11 PC backups...
At the bottom is what I got returned from AMANDA 2.3.0.5 after patching Samba 1.9.16p11 to give estimates. Any idea what I might not have done yet? My disklist reads: shokk \\thor\depot nocomp-user-gnutar To connect successfully to that server with smbclient, I have to do this, giving the same password that I now have in /etc/amandapass: smbclient \\\\THOR\\DEPOT -U BACKUP Also, the

Auto connecting to samba public service...
Hi, I'm having problems with WinNT Workstation 4.0 with SP2 that keep reconnecting to a public service \\aix\server1 on an Aix 3.2.5 running Samba 1.9.16p11. I connect X as \\aix\server1 on logon but after a while the WinNT4.0 box connects the next free letter i.e. G: to this service. A few minutes later H: is connected and so on until all available letters are used. Why is this? Tore --

changing dir to network drive in Rgui caused crash ( 1.7. 0)
Uwe & Marc, Adding the --vanilla flag doesn't help. Actually, the crash happens if I browse to a folder on a mapped drive. I.e., if I type in "q:\Andy" in the text box, it works, but if I try to browse to Q:\Andy and then click on OK, that's when it crashes. SAMBA requesting to be a master browser....
We are running samba 1.9.16p11, and seem to be doing just fine. Last Month, our IT dept informed us that our machine was attempting to be a master browser, which the NT Wins server was not happy about. Below is my global config options. When I killed/restarted the samba daemons (running as daemons and not via inetd) the problem seem to vanish. Feeling this was a fluke, it was dismissed.

[Q] GET_DIM() crash on Windows only
I have the following contrived code in package format. On Solaris and Mac OS X, code runs just fine. On Windows, it crashes the R environment with the "Send Bug Report" dialog. I tried R 1.8.1 (Win2K) and R 1.9 (WinXP) binaries with the same result. PCs otherwise appear properly configured for creating R packages. Anything blatantly wrong? Suggestions? TIA Relevant files from package
