Problems with xmms & freeamp
Hi all, I've just set up a test icecast2 server (download and compiled from cvs about an hour ago) - very simple setup, all it does is use ices to stream in an .ogg file that I converted from an mp3, using mpg123 & oggenc. (I've used the sample conf files with the directory stuff removed. I've also tried it with and without the re-encoding lines from the ices-playlist.xml file).

Hi, I''ve read that Dr. Dobbs Journal''s last issue has a cover article about Rails titled "Ruby On Rails - Java''s Successor?". Can''t find anything about it in http://www.ddj.com Does someone have the paper edition and can confirm that, and tell how the article looks like, and so on. Thanks, -- Jean-Fran?ois. -- ? la renverse.

It describes the "Recursive Range Reduction" algorithm (3R for short) and uses only a few basic computer principles (a binary tree being the most complex

Older Mac to SAMBA copy
I've built a new samba server to replace an aging Apple 9500 running 8.6 that is acting as a 'file server'. The other macs run 9.2 and 10.2, which are the computers that will be served (I HOPE!) by the samba server. I have installed DAVE in order to be able to copy the files over to the new server. However, as the files copy, they disappear on the samba server. Someone said it

aggregate() classing var. def.
Dear all, I want to aggregate() my data based of the classes of a factors, just as in the help file, but how do I define the "Region varable" in the ?aggregate example? Now, the column is just like any other in my data matrix. As I understand it from ?(state), state contains a matrix with the columns Pop, Income etc., but Region is somehow separated. I noted below that as.list() is

Problems with force (user|group) and XP Professional?
Hi all, In continuing of previous problems, I've noticed some potential problems with force user / force group and Windows XP Professional. I'm not exactly sure why or how, but it appears that XP picks up the fact that it's being connected as the forced user (smbguest), and continues trying to authenticate to other services/shares as that user (smbugest). I'm not sure if this

[LLVMdev] Benchmarks
Dear List, There's been some recent discussion on the list about benchmarks. I just read a Dr. Dobbs article on the relative runtime performance of various compilers (8 of them compared) on Intel platforms. The test focused on mainly template type things but offers Dhrystone and zlib for comparisons. There's no clear winner as all compilers perform well in some areas and poorly in

Erlang-style message-passing in R: Rmpi, Snow, NetWorkSpaces, etc.
I see about 7 different R packages for multi-process parallel programming. Which do you think is the best, most complete, and most robust to pick for general purpose Erlang-style message-passing programming in R, and why? First here's my use case, and then my analysis so far. I often have code whose basic organization looks something like this: 1. Fetch step: For each date, gather up or

r format questions
Hi, 1) I have noticed that when I use the aggregate function it outputs numbers in the results. for example: aggregate by product group.1 Aggregate 1 ProductA 1000400.00 2 ProductB 23232323.00 3 Missing 232323.00 is there a way to suppress the numbers infront of aggregate outputs. I checked and they don't look like columns when I do a summary so I can't -1

[PATCH] Add winbind-backed NTLMSSP support to Cyrus-SASL
Windows authentication extends far beyond the CIFS protocol the Samba implements, but it only very recently that work has been done to catch up to Microsoft's extensions in this area. This has caused many administrators pain and toil that their MS counterparts simply don't have. For them, authentication 'just works', with single-sign-on and the lot. I have worked, for over a
