browse list problems continued.
Hello,
Thanks for all the help so far. I've got nmbd and smbd so they're
running now, not being blocked out by my firewall however nmbd is still
unable to sync browse lists with my domain master browser, which i don't
have as i'm in a workgroup and i'd like samba to be the master browser. I
have enabled wins support see smb.conf below. Any suggestions
appreciated.
Thanks.

spauratic loss of machines.
Hello,
I've got a samba/win98 problem. This occurs with samba 2.05a and
slackware linux 7.0 and freebsd 3.4-release and samba 2.06. I've got two
machines, one a pure 98 machine, the other split 50-50 linux and freebsd.
All is looking well, samba is my local master, will always win elections
etc. Both machines show up and all is good until I restart samba. At that
point no matter which

USB printer goes into disconnected state when low-power mode enabled
I've mentioned this before, here, but with a laser printer connected via
the lp0 port.
I have a new laser printer, a Brother HL2140, that normally works just
fine when installed using the CUPS interface per OpenPrinting's
instructions (with one minor modification I had to add because the base
driver without the CUPS installation did not work.
Every so often, which actually appears to be

Re : Re: performance problem ??? AN ANSWER PLEASE ...
Did someone of you find a solution for our problerm ???
I send you the documented as you asked it but I always got the same
problems. I tried some possibilites for optimizing my system but I always
stay with my problem for writing files. Reading files from my shares is not
a problem but writing causes "buffers" problems with windows and windows
says he could not write all the blocks.

not seeing file system shares
I'm using samba 2.0.0. I have samba installed on a machine running
solaris 2.6. I want to be able map a unix filesytems to a windows
and/or NT machine. I don't see the share when I go into network
neighborhood on the windows/nt side. I've attached the smb.conf file
that I'm using. Is there a client piece that I need to install? or is
there a problem with the configuraion

Password problems with Samba on Alpha system
We have tried a couple of versions of Samba on an DEC Alpha running Tru64.
Most users can use this perfectly but a few get rejected at the password
authentication, and get logged on as guest users.
Machine is running NIS, and Makefile was generated automatically.
Win98 and Win2000 machines have had the "plain text password" patch to the
registry. Problem seems to lie on the server as

Samba problems ( still after using diagnose.txt )
Hi Andrew,
I'm having problems with Samba, on FreeBSD 2.2.5.
I have tried both Version 1.9.17p2 ( Which came with the release ), and
the latest version
1.9.18p8 ( from samba web site, and recompiled for FreeBSD ).
Both smbd, and nmbd are started from the command line as follows
( When compilying the code I changed the SBIN directory to sbin (
instead of bin )
/usr/local/sbin/smbd -D

nmbd
I am having a lot of problems with nmbd. Basically it refuses to open its
socket to listen on. I have checked, and the reason cannot be that the port
is in use, as I can set any port with the -p switch, and I get the same
error. The relevant part of the nmb log is:
Netbios name list:-
my_netbios_names[0]="DIRAC"
lp_file_list_changed()

Help with account mapping and guest
For public shares including the IPC$ share for browsing, a guest account was
sufficient for access when user had no account on Unix box. With 2.06
however on my Solaris 2.7 box I can not seem to make the box browsable or
public shares work for non account visitors. I have tried the guest = *
entry in the map file, but than account that were already mapped get
remapped to guest and local account

Samba 2.2.5 PDC doesn't trust Win2K Pro (really!)
Hello all,
I have compiled samba 2.2.5 on SCO openserver 5.0.5 as a PDC. My Win9X
clients have no problem accessing the shares and all is happy. However,
Win2K clients can join the domain, I see the computer/machine account that
automatically gets created in the smbpasswd file a-ok.
After the win2k client joins the domain, and the client reboots, the client
can't log in. I get this error

v3.2.0 and MS-DOS: Directories must be upper-case??
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I have an MS-DOS client (Win98SE boot disk) connecting to a Samba v3.2.0
server which is a member of an AD domain (WinNT 5.0/2000 DCs). If it
tries to create a file in a directory, it will fail if the path is not
all-upper-case. For instance: J:\Bk-Full\DJohnson\S1565\ will fail but
J:\BK-FULL\DJOHNSON\S1565\ will succeed.
When it 'fails'
