samba-2.0.4b/NT4.0(SP3): share name
Hello, everyone. Could you help me to solve the problems?
Recently I downloaded samba-2.0.4b souce and after I compiled it, I used it
as
a replace of samba-1.9.18p8.
The smb.conf file was used as before. But there are two problems to me.
1)When I used samba-1.9.18p8, the Windows NT4.0(sp3) workstation can browse
the share names of Japanese SJIS, but now I couldn't access the shares

When viewed on NT4.0 file sizes of samba share are incorrecly too large
Hi everyone,
Here is my problem:
All NT4.0 machines accessing a samba share located on a Solaris 2.6 server
(running smbd version
2.0.4b) see the file sizes to be MUCH (terabytes) larger than they actually
are. This is true
both when looking through Explorer (file manager) and through MS-DOS prompt.
On Windows98 machines the files are irrationally large via Explorer, but are
the correct size

NT4.0 + SP3 reports can't NetServerEnum from DMB using Samba
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am writing to ask your help with a problem whereby 3 NT4.0 +
Sservice Pack 3 servers frequently log (in their event lists) that the
browsing service cannot get the list of domain resources (the reply to
NetServerEnum2) from the master browser (when the boxes are
functioning as backup browsers).
The situation is :-

File corrupted when copy one large file(10G) from NT4.0 to samba
Hi All,
When I copied one file from NT4.0 to Linux through samba with 'copy'
command in NT4.0, the file was always corrupted. Size of the file copied
into Linux was always about 4G. If I copied it through Windows Explorer,
it was OK. It seems samba cannot process the "Write Raw" request sent by
'copy' command correctly when file size is larger than 4G bytes. Thanks

2.0.4b: SERIOUS character set problem
caldera/2.0.x and rh60/2.2.9.
I've already posted about this twice to the samba list (since february) then
to samba-bugs (19990301); no response, so I retry.
I have
character set = iso8859-1
client codepage = 850
With samba 1.9.18p8:
smbstatus showed the filenames with localized characters ok (ie:
libert?.txt); smbclient was ok.
With samba 2.0.0 through 2.0.4b:
if I connect with smbclient

Automatic printer driver installation for NT4.0/NT2000 clients?
Dear All,
I've seen the PRINTER_DRIVER.txt doc on getting the PRINTER$ share set up to
automatically add printer drivers to Win95 clients. It explicitly says that
the procedure described does not work for NT4.0 clients.
I can't find any other documentation on setting up a PRINTER$ share suitable
for NT4.0 or NT2000 clients either in the distribution (2.0.5a) or the web
site.
Is this

Unicode conversions from JA encodings
Background link for those unfamiliar:

W3's suggestions for within XML: http://www.w3.org/TR/japanese-xml/
The nice thing about this document is it gives data for a bunch of
different translation tables, and enumerates their differences. (This
is only about Japanese encodings. I believe similar problems may exist for

NT4.0 rename on Samba 1.9.18p2 share on SunOS 4.1.3
I am seeing an odd behavior with NT4.0 SP3 workstations trying to rename
files on Samba 1.9.18p2 shares on SunOS 4.1.3 servers. Rename, whether
it is run from Explorer, winfile.exe, or command prompt fails with

I don't see the problem from Win95 PCs at all, and I don't have the
problem with shares from Samba 1.9.18p2 shares on Solaris 2.5.1 servers

Control characters with Samba/NT4.0
Dear List,
When we copy an ascii file from SunSolaris Samba server to NT4.0
workstation, the file is getting control characters at the end of each

AW: Samab and a NT4.0 PDC
Actually i should rephrase that.
Samba works fine, but what do I put down as `valid users'? certainly I can't
use %U like with the template homedir.
Any suggestions?
Tia,
Cheers,

Samba members in NT4.0 to AD upgrade
Hi,
I've got an NT4.0 domain that I'm planning to upgrade
to Active Directory.
I've got a couple of Samba member servers in the
domain, various versions above 3.0.
So I have two questions:
1. Are there any gotchas with this scenario or will
the Samba clients
just keep working as NT4-esque clients.
2. Is it possible to "upgrade" a Samba member server
to be an Active

windows() graphics driver on NT4.0
Dear R community,
I have spent a lot of time with the windows() driver in R 90.0 on NT4.0. There
are a few odd behaviors I can't figure out, and wonder if they are bugs, or
"features" that I can't find documented:
1. I am mostly doing scatterplots. If I resize the R window, or resize the
graphics window except with the resize button, the printed image shows 1-pixel
sized dots

Linux client and NT4.0 server
Hi,
I am running Linux on RedHat 5.0 and Samba 1.9.18p2 to wish to connect
to an NT 4.0 server running NT LAN Manager 4.0.
I have gone through the documentation and can still not get
smbmount nor smbclient to work.
I cannot get smbclient -L to give me a listing of the shares on the
server.
I DO get a browser list, but no shares. I only have partial access to
the server and must go thru the

NT4.0 connection only as geust account ?
Hi,
I have:
- Linux 2.0.30
- NT 4.0
- Samba 9.16pl11
- same user name and password on Linux and NT 4.0 (user1, pwxxx)
and the smb.conf of below.
When I create a file on the samba share [tmp] from the NT 4.0 machine, the
owner is always 'nobody' (my guest account). I can not manage it to
give it my own name (user1).
I can not create a file in another directory neither, because samba

Samba BDC in a subnet of a Windows NT4.0 domain?
Hi, I've been playing with samba/the idea of Samba as a server for a remote
location on our network.
How we're setup right now is this:
Windows NT 4.0 PDC/BDC/Member Server (hosting Exchange server).
The PDC has file sharing for our projects directory and needs to be
accessible by employees everywhere. the BDC has SQL server for accounting
purposes and also needs to be accessible from

the detail:
I have three machines together: an NT4 Workstation (sp3), a
Win95 machine and a Debian (Hamm = latest stable release). The

Urgent Help pls - NT4.0 Term Server and SAMBA - RDR timeouts
Hello,
I'm new to this list.
The NT folk here, are concerned about some timeout errors and stuff that appear
in their event viewer. They are building a case to convince management that
unless these "samba" errors are fixed, we should move to NT file shares. I think
this is a bad idea. Can anyone help me out here.
We are running samba 2.0.6 (1st msg) and 2.0.5a (2nd err msg)
