Does anyone know if there is any document from SAMBA team states that the
SAMBA software is Y2k ready ? If yes, where is it I can download it or what

some shares in browselist not showing up in spite of browseable = yes
Hello,
In my smb.conf (or actually, in "committees.conf" included from smb.conf,
a defined share does not show up in the browselist, nor any other
share defined AFTER that particular one (either in that file or
in smb.conf after the include statement).
The shares are accessable though (when mapped to a drive letter or
used as UNC). Ofcourse I tried to look for odd

Unwanted browse lists
Michel,
One approach that hasn't been suggested is to block access to the netbios
nameservice port on the samba host with a firewalling rule. That way the
other computers on the subnet can't register themselves with nmbd.
Suppose that your internal network is all within the 192.168.15.0/24
network. Each Windows workstation will automatically announce itself with
a udp packet broadcast

Listing knowledge of R as a skill on a resume...
Afternoon folks:
This question may be a touch off-topic, but I had to start
somewhere.
As I become more proficient with R I would like to play up
the point in the computer skills section of my resume. Can
anybody on the list provide an idea or two as to what might
be an appropriate way to do this? Is it a language or an
application? What's a proper description for it?
I leave to

Unwanted browselists
Is there a way to prevent browselists from machines other than those
of my choosing to show up in the browselists/network neighbourhood?
I don't want win95 clients that offer shares themselves to show up
in the network neighbourhood.
Michel.

[LLVMdev] Live code elimination problem in code generation
Hello. :)
I've met a problem that eliminates a live code in code generation phase.
The initially generated code is shown as follows (as a pseudo code):
( Before pseudo-code expansion. )
----------
loop:
:
:
set P0 <- xxx ( P0: a physical register for a parameter of function F )
set P1 <- yyy ( P1: a physical register for a parameter of function F )

error handling in R/ lapack routines
Does any of you know where I can find an explanation of lapack errors codes?
I get error code 17 when using optim().
Is there a way to handle errors in R such that depending on the type of
error I can decide what to do next?
Thanks,
Haky

Using R under Ubuntu...
Morning all:
Coming straight to the point. Switched from XP to Ubuntu Linux. Followed
the steps outlined on the website to install a current version of R to my
machine. Seems to have worked OK, but the process doesn't install it to the
desktop. The notes don't go into that part of it, so I'm seeking some
advice from others more experienced on how to take the last couple of steps

[LLVMdev] Branch transformation with branch-weight metadata
Hello :)
I am looking around __builtin_expect() directive for optimization.
Since it is not included in v2.9, I am searching about it on svn trunk.
I found that the lowering phase generates branch-weight metadata node for
that directive.
However, I can't find any code related to the metadata even in the branch
transformation code.

Ubuntu and sources.list question about mirror sites...
Evening all:
Thought I'd announce myself with a question about setting up
sources.list to be able to begin download and install of R.
Running version 7.10 of Ubuntu. (Tried 8.04 but found it slow and
finicky with my hardware. Perhaps will try 8.10 or above, but that's a
thought for another time.)
Followed the notes on the R site and added the following lines to my
sources.list:

Hello! Some Question.
Hello,
My name is Chung Hae Young, and I work for NCsoft in Seoul, Korea.
I am currently working on a online game development project.
I have some questions regarding Ogg Vorbis.
I want to change the library source and change Ogg game music files so the file can only be played within the game.
I want to know if I can modify the library.
And if I modify it, will if cause any legal

p-level in packages mgcv and gam
Hi,
I am fairly new to GAM and started using package mgcv. I like the
fact that optimal smoothing is automatically used (i.e. df are not
determined a priori but calculated by the gam procedure).
But the mgcv manual warns that p-level for the smooth can be
underestimated when df are estimated by the model. Most of the time
my p-levels are so small that even doubling them would not result

I was curious what the status of the ldap support is in 2.0.5a and where
I can get more information on what characteristics this requires in the

OT - C structure question
I hae tried searching the web for the answer, but, man is there a lot of
pages ... :(
in the language I develop in, if I have a structure I can dynamically
refer to the contents of a field of the structure like so:
MESSAGE SomeStructure:Field(SomeFieldName):Value
where SomeFieldName is either a quoted constant or a variable expressions
In "C", I beleive that you can refer to

R 2.7.2 missing something in the install packages menu functions...
Hi folks:
Puzzled about something. Is it just my imagination or has the dep = TRUE
been dropped from the install packages menu function with this edition?
As recently as 2.7.1 the choice seemed to hunt dependencies automatically,
but now I'm having to enter the function manually to get that back. Is
there a way to add this back to the menu choice?

Asking an old housekeeping question...
My bad. I know I've asked this some time back but I'm afraid I've lost the post
along the way and am not having much luck searching the net.
Don't want to pad my R setup with orphan packages. Is there a small snippet of
code or even a single command that would allow me to check the packages I do use
for their dependencies and then I can chuck those that don't turn up as wanted

Warned about these "three little maids"...
Greetings all:
Newcomer to R as I work on learning it to transfer my college classroom
stats training to something more useful and accurate then that spreadsheet
from Redmond which shall remain nameless.
I'm running v2.6.2 on a Win XP Home system that I keep up to date with all
the called for patches. Haven't added much to the basic install other than
the bits and bobs needed to run

HTML-documentaion on NT
Once you hae in stalled Guido's NT port of R it
is nice and easy to install the add-on packages too.
However, it would be nice to have links to the documentation
of the functions in all the packages from the "All Installed
Functions" html-page, and not have to go through each of
the packages.
Is there a utility somewhere to do this?
