solaris 2.6 printing
I have ran across a problem that I cant resolve and no one else seems to either. I recently built solaris 2.6 on an ULTRA 1 Sun Box. I retrieved compiled and installed samba 2.0 from their web site I compiled with gcc and everything works well except for the printing. Samba does deliver a file in my /var/spool/smbprint dir but nothing happens from there no matter what lp or other commands I

Windows 98 Preformance
I have Samba on a HP-UX 10.20 box and a Windows 98 and NT clients. We are using Samba to just share the Unix drives, the clients get their main stuff from an NT domain structure. On my NT client connected to a share, when I go into file manager for an example I get the directory structure almost instantly. However when the 98 client does the same exact process on the same exact share, it take

Problem with exported Optical Drive
Hi, I'm using Samba quiet a while and never had a problem I couldn't solve for myself. Now I've got one :) Everytime I write files > 30 MB on my exported Fujitsu M2513A Windows is terminating with "Network share is no longer available". The Windows progress indicator shows nothing, but the file is written and then discarded (after the error message) ! Now I've set the

configure bombing with "no locking available"
Hi! I just went from RedHat 5.2 to SuSE 6.1, and now I have a problem with the configure script bombing with "ERROR: No locking available. Running Samba would be unsafe" "configure: error: summary failure" The source I am trying to compile is 2.1.0-prealpha, and I think this is very weird, because I run samba 2.0.3(precompiled) on it now. On the RedHat, everything compiled

Failure to rename files that have active file handles
We have just installed Samba 1.9.18p10 on an Ultra Sparc, Solaris 2.5.1 . So far we have been very impressed with the resilience and performance of Samba in contrast to Hummingbird and Solstice NFS products while doing large product builds on our NT4.0 sp4 machines. However we have come across one little problem, which may be down to configuration, that has left us "worried" about

Locally cached files
I've just upgraded our little network here to 2.0 beta 5. The server is a Data General Intel box running DGUX R4.20. Compile and install went incredibly well and things have just about working straight off. However, we experienced a little 'funny' this afternoon. A user was creating and deleting a postscipt file in a Unix directory. She then used Ghostview on the PC client to

beta5 configure problems on Solaris
Hi all. I'm trying to compile 2.0.0beta5 on my Solaris 2.6 host, using gcc-2.7.2.3, and configure is failing: checking configure summary ERROR: No disk free routine! configure: error: summary failure. Aborting config This apparently comes from the following in ./source/tests/summary.c: #if !(defined(STAT_STATVFS) || defined(STAT_STATVFS64) || defined(STAT_STATFS3_OSF1) ||

Samba 1.9.18 DOS to UNIX and back with ASCII
I have found that Samba does not seem to handle the ^M EOL character very well. This seems to be a big problem with Windows Notepad and then in vi for UNIX. Other than the ux2dos and dos2ux commands does anyone know of another solution or if this has been fixed in a more current release of Samba? Thanks! Once more into the breech (browsing problems)
Howdy all: I thought I had this problem beaten into submission, but I guess not. We just got our first NT box, which is another new wrinkle... Anyway, the LAN just went belly-up again yesterday, and when the LAN guy disconnected my linux/samba box from the network, Network Neighborhood came right back. I still don't think it's a linux/samba problem, but I'm certainly no

Samba 2.0 RedHat/PAM password troubles found and solved!
I tried upgrading from samba 1.9 to 2.0 on two seperate RedHat servers, and after both upgrades nobody could get authenticated. The windows boxes had the registry hacks to turn off encrypted passwords, and I'm authenticating out of passwd+shadow. I found many similiar posts on DejaNews and in the samba mailing list archives. I broke out strace and found the problem. Samba 2.0 tries to
