What I would like to do: can it be done?
I have a RHL box running Samba 1.19.8p10 (or whatever the latest one is). I
would like to share the /home/httpd directory read-only to everyone on the
network and read/write to a few specific people. I cannot get the passwords
for these people, and I want this to be as transparent as possible (read: as
"invisible" as possible). I don't want to have to add every user to the
group, but

I was curious what the status of the ldap support is in 2.0.5a and where
I can get more information on what characteristics this requires in the
ldap database.

Excel 'save as HTML' problem with Samba 2.0
Hello,
Eversince I upgraded Samba to 2.0 version I've gotten so many calls from
the users regarding Excel 'save as HTML' problem.
What seems to be happening is that the users cannot save their Excel
spreadsheet as html file when they were able to with the previous Samba
version we had installed (Samba 1.9.18p10).
According to MS 'knowledge database', this is a known MS Excel

Network time sync and reverse NetBios name lookup
I made a somewhat deep check for time synchronization and I
couldn't find what I was looking for. What I need to do is synchronize
the clock on a Linux box to the clock on an NT server. I can't use NTP
or any other protocol because the NT box doesn't understand it. Any
pointers would be great.
The second issue is that I need to do (if possible) a reverse

I have here a Linux box with RedHat 5.1. I have complete control over
it. I.e. I can do whatever I want to it in order to make it do what I need
it to do.
I was wondering what would it take to be able to do the following :
The Linux box will become part of the NT domain NTdom1. It's is just a
machine on the network, not a PDC or BDC. I would like to give all user

My last post buggered - FWD about patch version2
No idea why my last post buggered, so here's what I meant to send
(attached is his actual patch):
Hi!
I made a little patch I'd like to see integrated (if appropriate)
which makes Compiz usable in desktop+TV-out setups. It adds the
--only-current-screen option to compiz which tell it to only manage
the screen defined by $DISPLAY and leave the others alone.

Error: Client not receiving data fast enough
Hmmm, I am using Winamp for my client, will upgrade it, but it works for
other shoutcast/icecast streams. There has to be something buggered up in
my config somewhere. It sounds as if Ices is sending data too quickly to
icecast(?), will blow it away and re-complie it and see what happens.
Thanks for the help so far.

Should SEV-ES #VC use IST? (Re: [PATCH] Allow RDTSC and RDTSCP from userspace)

With the removal of IST shifting I wonder what you would suggest on how
to best implement an NMI-safe IST handler with nesting support.
My current plan is to implement an IST handler which switches itself off
the IST stack as soon as possible, freeing it for

So I done changed the number and so far its all ok but whilst testing I

Looks like a search/replace was performed, but its now impossible to set an

Help! Extlinux no longer bootable after reorder disk numbers
I split one partition, then my hard drive partitions and my partition
numbers are listed in the wrong order and I fixed them

so
they run sequentially from lowest to highest.
And the problem is, as the article

CentOS 5.4 32-bit vs. 64-bit strange mystery WRT PXEBoot
I am in the process of migrating my desktop system from 32-bit CentOS 4.8 to
64-bit CentOS 5.4. One of the things I want to be able to do is boot my
IBM Thinkpad X25 laptop via its PXEBoot ROM over the LAN (it has a hard
disk and boot locally just fine, I just want a way to boot it for rescue
and/or new O/S installs). On my 32-bit CentOS 4.8 this works just fine.
It also works on another

a possible heads up wrt CERN experiment breaking SL 5.6
This may or may not be of interest to CentOS developers; if it is not
or if it is redundant of your efforts to keep atop of what's
happening, you have my apologies.
Whether it is joint or disjoint wrt to the upstream code is not known
at this point, but I have submitted a request for elucidation if CERN
security allows.

advice wrt pxelinux & tftpd & dhcp
Ive got a mucho-kludgo (but working) setup where;
pxe-client boots an os-du-jour in runlevel 2,
rc.2 runs a test-script that ends in a reboot,
meanwhile, on tftp-server host,
a script watches the syslog, notes the arrival of an RRQ message for a
kernel,
and runs a program to rewrite the pxelinux.cfg/default file so that
it causes a different kernel to boot the next time.
This setup lets me

[LLVMdev] WRT: function pointers + DSG
LLVM,
What do I pass into the DSG in order to access the globals vector of
functions that a function pointer may be calling. The code:
CallInst *calli = dynamic_cast<CallInst*>(*i);
std::vector<GlobalValue*> funcVect =
theGraph.getNodeForValue(calli->getCalledFunction()).getNode()->getGlobals();
Doesn't appear to work... getCalledFunction() returns 0
