3com 3c509
I have used 3Com 3c509 nic width bnc coax. I have experienced that these cards used width FreeBSD and Samba is unusable due to speed. I tried to change the 3com card with a NE2000 compatible card, and there was a major change in speed. Has anyone else experienced such problem. Asgeir Stangeland

2.0.7: unsolicited oplock break reply
I've used oplocks = no for a long time now, because of the famous "oplock_break" error, but I decided to give 2.0.7 a try. I still get "oplock break" errors as before, but this time I got a new error too: [2000/05/02 10:04:52, 0] smbd/oplock.c:oplock_break(976) oplock_break: receive_smb timed out after 30 seconds. oplock_break failed for file XXXXX/xxxxxx/mailbox.pst

Samba 2.0 and MS Access DB
I installed samba on an Intel based Server running Red Hat 5.2. I can access files on the shares I created but I run into a problem accessing a database program written in MS Access. It seems that only one person at a time can open the database. I get an error of "File is already in use" . What are the optimal settings for accessing MS Access in a multi-user application? Thanks for

Cacheing Problem
I am trying to get two WFW PC's talking to via Linux/Samba server Interface. One PC continuously streams binary datafile onto its directory on the server while the other continuously reads it. Information on the size of this file (which can continuously increase up to 3MB) is continuously updated and is stored using a fixed width pointer in the file header. It appears that the second PC

need undelete function (Jeremy, what is your idea?)
Hi there: > ps: my little suggestion: if we add some parameters at smb.conf like > protected dir = /home/share, /home/user1 ; > trashcan dir = /smbtrash ; It seems that implementation of such parameter has some difficulties and eventuates reduction on performance (e.g. handling "protected dir"s and "trash dir" on the different devices like /dev/hda1

INBOX as Maildir and folders as mbox
Hi, I was wondering whether anybody has managed to get Dovecot 1.0 to store INBOX as Maildir and folders as mbox. I've tried something like default_mail_env = mbox:/folders/user/mail:INBOX=maildir:/inboxes/maildir/user:INDEX=/indexes/user but it doesn't seem to work (treats INBOX as mbox). I'm hoping to move some INBOXes from mbox on local disk to Maildir on nicely-mirrored NetApp

TRANS.TBL files on Win95 fileserver
I have a small LAN in my basement, with my PC running RH5 Linux and a Win95 PC connected by Samba. Everything works fine, but when I smbmount a CD (burned with xcdroast) from the Linux box (CD is in the Win95 machine) I do not get the proper filenames. All files are uppercase, and the TRANS.TBL files appear to be ignored. I have tried playing with name mangling, but it didn't help. Is this a

win98 vs win95 with TCP/IP
You wrote: I have been disappointed that I can't use Linux+Samba as an alternative to a Win9x or NT server for our GP medical practice. The software we need runs in win9x. We crave stability. But Linux+Samba is just much slower as a file server. It's normally quite fast: are you running over a dial-up network, requiring you to adust MTU's for speed??? If not, try ``socket

Mixed IMAP/POP3 environment: further informations
Hello All, some further information. While waiting for some info I'm rolling back to UW and I discovered that if I delete the user "~/Maildir" automatically created by Dovecot, so including any index, the POP3 server works as expected. So it isn't the "Status" flag stored in the mbox file that prevents the download but some status information stored in the IMAP

Unable to validate owner sid.
I am trying to run Samba 2.2.4 on solaris 2.8 with W2K clients. I have an NT app installed onto the Solaris 8 server which i would like to run off of the mapped samba network drive. When i try to start the NT app it attempts to read a file on the samba drive called .root.passwords but fails (This file can be accessed with notepad). The following is an extract from the samba error log. I get the

Printer queue problem (LPRng 3.4.2, Samba 1.9.18p4, Solaris 2.5.1/2.6)
I've been having a problem with Win95 clients watching a printer queue on the Samba server (called labserv2). labserv2 is a Solaris 2.5.1 machine running samba 1.9.18p4. The printing system is LPRng 3.4.2. A user can watch the printer queue from a Win95 client machine. However, when the printer queue gets backed up (usually about 12 jobs), the queue window locks. The corresponding smbd

unofficial Survey about your Dovecot server :) to compare with my own server setup...
Hi Borthers/Sisters Thanks for all the developer(s) and for all the hard work spent on build this great piece of software! I loved Dovecot since it is really easy to set up and really fast but I am really new to it (only 2 weeks and half). Right now, our server configuration is: Server: Apple Xserve G5 dual RAM: 4GB Number of Users: ~ 150 IMAP only users Authentication: LDAP Mailboxes sizes:

Mixed IMAP/POP3 environment, a success
Hello everybody, I just want to inform the Dovecot developers and users that I completely migrated the first mailbox (my own one) from Eudora/UW to SquirrelMail/Dovecot. I'm using it since a couple of days and after a bit of tuning (mostly SquirrelMail related) it works like a charm. I even performed some heavy operations, like moving thousands of messages between different mailboxes or

Mixed IMAP/POP3 environment and message status flags
Hello All, I'm trying to migrate from UW Imap to Dovecot (latest 1.0 beta 2). The target is to go from the actual environment (Eudora + POP3) to a web based IMAP environment (IMAP + SquirrelMail). While migrating we will need to keep both environments for some time, with users having both the ability to use Eudora through POP3 while in the office and also the ability to check e-mail
