SmbClient Kills NT 4 in conjunction w/ Amanda (Revisited)
Ok.. I've tried tweaking several settings on Samba (1.9.18p4) in order to try to keep it from killing several machines that get backed up weekly via Amanda (using smbclient). What always appears to happen is that for one reason or another, Samba is booking along copying files and then all of a sudden NT stops communication and smbclient ends up hanging forever (regardless of the keepalive

If WAN is broken I have a problem with local connect
We have two subnets with two samba servers (div0 - 150.10.10.1 and div8 - 150.18.18.1 ). If I break the connection between subnets, clients belong to div8 cannot connect locally. All clients have set up wins server to 150.10.10.1 ( div0 ) . If subnets are connect, all is ok ( connecting, browsing). We are using samba 1.9.18p7. smb.conf in div0 is [global] workgroup = LANGROUP domain logons =

App fails writing file but zero length file on Samba server
Hi all I've googled but not found any thing on the problem I'm having. I'm contracting with a utilities company that uses General Electric's ENMAC software. This runs on RHEL4 and makes use of Samba but it only works with Samba 1.9.18p10 compiled with this patch: --- diff -Naur samba-1.9.18p10/source/includes.h samba-1.9.18p10_good/source/includes.h ---

unable to browse... (after hours of thrashing :-(
okey doke. I have read the faq, I have browsed the samba web sites, and I did go through diagnose.txt and the other documentation but still... none of the win95 boxes on my network can see my samba server in the network neighborhood. usage of "net use x: \\server\share" seem to work fine on the client machines though as well as everything else in the diagnose.txt document. intermittent login failures (Win95/Samba 1.9.18p10)
We are using Windows 95 OSR 2 clients here in our lab in conjunction with Samba 1.9.18p10 on Linux kernel 2.0.35. We are getting intermittent login failures that I can't figure out. The user will type their username and password in, hit OK, and the system will respond, "The domain password you supplied is not correct, or access to your logon server has been denied." If the user

NT3.51 slow file access
Hi: We have a network of Unix (Solaris 2.6) and windows 95 machines. We currently run samba v1.9.18p10 on one of the unix machines to share user's home directories, and a common directory for projects (/doc). Our Win95 machines work fine when it comes to accessing the unix machine's data. We recently added an NT 3.51 machine (running Citrix WinFrame, fyi) to the network. Using the

Linux printer share for NT 4.0 clients..
Hello, I'm a samba novice ;( Saw your "detailed" responses to another newbie questions so I thought I give you a shout :) Here is my setup: I've got 2 Linux boxes. One is running Ypserv and handles the authentication, the other is a 486 33mhz running ypbind(slave) and it is my printserver. The print server is also running 1.9.18 samba release as a daemon (smbd -D). It

Printing multiple copies
Hello! I'm having a problem with my SAMBA setup in that it cannot print multiple copies from any clients. I think I could solve this if there is anyway to specify a variable on the "print command =" line that corresponds to the number of copies. That way I could just use "print command = lpr -r -P'%p' -#%n %s" (where %n is the number of copies. Anyone know if

Samba - cannot print multiple copies
Hi, I successfully setup printing on my FreeBSD box using Samba with apsfilter and lprng. However, I have encountered two issues: 1) Cannot print multiple copies of documents from my windows box (e.g. notepad). Only the first copy is printed and the rest don't get printed. 2) My spool directory is getting filled up and I would like the job removed after the print job is finished I've

Slow Samba Printer initialisation, status, and printing
OK, I have been wrestling with this for two weeks now, so somebody please help ! We have an existing Samba Print Server, running RedHat linux, kernel 2.2.19, that runs fine, but is a P133 with 64 mb ram. So we built a new PC, the slowest thing we could buy, a duron 1 ghz with 512 mb RAM. Old printer server is running Samba 2.2.5, new printer server is running samba 2.2.5, and Slackware 8.1,

After almost every reboot, Samba printing is DOA under Solaris 2.6...
I just thought that I would put this out there and see if anyone else sees this problem with Samba 1.9.18p4 (under Solaris 2.6). It appears that after some reboots of Solaris, Samba printing is partly dead. What I see in the logs are below, and what happens is that the file to be printed is spooled to /var/spool/samba, like always, but when the lpr command is issued it croaks. I've been

Problem with job removal
Hi, We've been stuck with this problem for a while now and we believe I tried enough potential solutions to justify my posting here. We're using samba 3.0.14a in Sarge in order to allow printing from Windows workstations (The authentication works with AD+Kerberos+Winbind) to a set of shared printers. Printing works perfectly but we would like to allow users to have control over the jobs

Controlling unix print queues from PC
I'm running Samba 2.0.3 from the pre-built binary (ftp://sunsite.org.uk/packages/samba/Binary_Packages/solaris/samba-2.0.3 -sunos-4.1.3.tar.Z) on a Sun IPX with SunOS 4.1.3_U1. I've defined a printer in smb.conf, from a PC (NT 4.0) I can send prints to it and view the queue OK but I can't manage the queue in any way. Attempts to cancel prints and stop or start the queue from the PC
