malformed password entry
I have a Sparc Ultra-2 running Solaris 2.7 and Samba version 2.0.5 Most of the time everything works fine, Win95 & WinNT users connect to Samba shares and work. Occasionally, users report not being able to view the Samba server in which case I have them map a drive manually or do a "find computer". There are times when this does not work. I take a look at the logs

Logwatch - malformed password entry(uid not number)
Hi All, I've the following in the logs and am wondering why they are there. I also keep getting emails from SAMBA log-deamon (or something like that). [2003/05/19 15:24:29, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:getsmbfilepwent(364) getsmbfilepwent: malformed password entry (uid not number) It's not really serious (at least to me) but it's a cause for concern. Below are the details LInux

how to add /etc/passwd entries to smbpasswd
On 16 Apr 99, "Ameet Chaubal" <achaubal@admin.tavsnet.com> had questions about how to add /etc/passwd entries to smbpasswd: > How do I add all the users from /etc/passwd to the smbpasswd file. > I am looking at smbpasswd man page but couldn't figure out the passwd > entries. I think the easiest thing would be to run without encrypted passwords, but with

getsmbfilepwent problem - Samba concerned with negative UIDs
All, Since installing my shiny new Samba3 PDC (3.0.23d, ldapsam backend), I've had one recurring issue that's been driving me nuts. Once a minute, Samba on one of the client servers logs the following: getsmbfilepwent: user name cmeyer2 has a negative uid. getsmbfilepwent: user name jhundley has a negative uid. Running pdbedit does the same thing: boothost:/var/log# pdbedit -Lvu

Question on log-in difficulties
Dear Listmembers, I am using a SPARC ULTRA 60 / running SuSE sparc linux 7.3 as server for our M$-Network. I recently installed samba-2.2.8a from SuSE (compiled src-rpm), since then I am facing problems when attaching to the server for certain users given specific conditions. When saying reconnect at login, the reconnect at login fails, whereas the connect during normal operation (by using

Loooooong logon-times using samba 3.5.6 and Windows 7
Dear samba-users We are experiencing some rather long logon times using SAMBA 3.5.6 on Debian Squeeze + Windows 7 and while trying to find out why we raised the loglevel to 5 resulting in a rather large logfile. But this did give us a hint as to why we experience so long logon times. It seems that samba is going through the whole user-database with all usernames and machine-accounts. Eventually

FIXED getsmbfilepwent problem - Samba concerned with negative UIDs
All, I found the solution. By stopping NSCD and THEN purging the passwd table, the bad entries were cleared. Mitgrating Nt4 PDC to samba; user mapping
I've to migrate a NT4 PDC to an samba PDC (running samba 3.0.0beta2 on a debian/GNU/linux box). Samba is already setup and working as a BDC. When I try to perform: net rpc vampire -S PDC all existing userSIDs are put into samba's 'passwd.tdb'. The problem is now, how to get a working userSID <-> UID mapping: The existing userSID have RID parts in the range of

Help with smbpasswd
I am running samba version 2.0.7 on a HP 11.00 server. I have a local pc account that is trying to access a samba share and is being prompted for a username and password (which usually does not happen). When I look in the log file, I see the following. How can I troubleshoot this. Any help is appreciated. [2002/11/21 15:33:04, 1] smbd/reply.c:(988) Username pcguest is invalid on this system

Unix password Sync
Ive just discovered that my previous email is wrong - the password sync does in fact work under Solaris fine. What is happening however is that when I create a new account, and call smbpasswd $user as root, it only updates the SMB password and not the Unix password as well. I though I could change my call to /bin/passwd in my new user creation scrip with /usr/local/samba/bin/smbpasswd -a, but as

Problem with smbpasswd
Hi all, I've just set up password encryption using 1.9.18p4. I compiled with NO ALLOW_CHANGE_PASSWORD option because compilation didn't work (I'm using HP-UX 10.20). Everything seems to be working correctly instead of a 'normal' user trying to change his (samba-) password using smbpasswd (root can change any password). The messages I receive are as follows: Old SMB password:

Cannot export all my users using pdbedit
Hello again, I'm trying to move all my users from an old Samba server to a new Samba AD server. When I try to do a 'classicupgrade' the process crashes after a while without giving me a clear indication of what is going wrong. When I try to export the users using pdbedit -e smbpasswd , some of the accounts simply fail. If I look at the output I see something like: Processing

Authentication Problem
Hi Folks, I got a little problem with authentication. I set up samba 3.0.0 and squid 2.5stable4, using winbind to authenticate users via group with the nt4 domain pdc. Anyway... sometimes the authorization/authentication doesn't work. In the first test I had no problems surfing the net via proxy, and some minutes later I get an access denied message with the same user... so this is this a

[PATCH] Fixes bug which strips every other digit in klibc-utils dmesg output
There is a bug in the way which klibc/usr/utils/dmesg.c tries to strip the initial <[0-7]> from kernel messages. The bug causes every other numerical digit to be stripped from the output. Fixed. A bug report with lots of details has been filed for Debian and Ubuntu: * http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=483186 * https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/klibc/+bug/235282

Suddenly wine has a problem
Wine has been working perfectly over the last few months, and suddenly today I seem to be having this problem when I have not modified anything since the last time I sued wine. I should also point out, I have made no configuration changes to wine to cause this issue. Does anyone have any advice on how I can fix the problem.
